^^^^Knowingly talking on the phone while driving seems to be the most common violation on Indian roads.. I mean its so common that I doubt majority of people even consider it as a violation at all .. in many ways its similar to throwing garbage anywhere & everywhere which many people think is the norm!

Talking on handsfree itself distracts one from driving properly even if you are on a handsfree device, but people are lazy to even use that !

^^^^^^^Does Chennai have any traffic police ? [lol] Happens only in India. looks like too much time & resources at hand with nothing worthwhile to do unless he got himself into some record books after this!

if you guys think talking on the cellphone is bad
then consider this
people texting while driving
in my opinion female drivers are the worst
heads down and texting away
and if you behind them in slow moving traffic, its worse.
cause they do not keep up with vehicle in front
and someone always taking advantage of the gap

An observation: Have seen many Corporate world employees/professionals in the driver's seat with the seat belt fastened and the other person at front passenger seat, who is mostly his/her partner/spouse or colleague, causally seated without seat belt.
This scene is very difficult to digest and contrast.

Even the guy in the driver's seat is probably just wearing it to avoid being stopped by cops & avoid being fined Rs 100. Otherwise even that person would be happy driving without it.

A lot of folks say/believe that the actual seat belt rule spells out that only the driver is required to wear it. No mention of passenger seat. Going by the way things work in this country it could well be the truth. So technically they are not breaking any rules maybe. But again these rules vary from city to city I believe. For example some metros I am told had a seat belt rule for quite a few years now neighboring cities did not have it till recently. Some small towns & cities still don't enforce any such seabelt rule.

But looking at the recent incidents like the car accident & death of union minister in Delhi, they might even make it compulsory for all the passengers in the vehicle.

In Kerala, seat belt has been made mandatory for all passengers in a car about a day or 2 back according to a newspaper here.
Putting seat belt from the rear seat is like a menace for kids & old people. I don't think they can implement that strictly!

Rear seat belts take some getting used to, but in the end it's barely uncomfortable at all. Also, it's more comfortable than any of the injuries you can suffer from not wearing one.

But knowing the ignorance among some people in our country, they might just claim that it is "unnecessary" without any logic or knowledge to back that statement.

We have seen lorries without tail & brake lights, we have seen trucks with broken tail / brake lights but for the first time iam seeing a truck with both the rear lights covered with opaque polythene bag secured with ties. [surprise] [confused] probably to protect the unit from dust and grime.
and another moron without the rear mudguard. driving behind him in heavy rain had all the mud on my windscreen [frustration]
