Friends, I drive everyday in India's most pathetic National Highway 47 which is congested, single lane, with huge pot holes, etc from Kaliakkavilai to Marthandam.( This road Starts from Kaliakkavilai and connects KanyaKumari).

Road manners here are

If its traffic jam, in 5 mins that road will be a one way with 3 lines of urgent drivers blocking the opposite flow.
That was a nice one we all missed that point, commonly seen on NH47 for sure.

In Bangalore you get the Cab drivers who considers themselves to be better than Schumacher and drive like crazy. They will honk you like anything if they are behind you.Again if they are in front of you,you will have your heart in your mouth since you do not know which way they will go.
And only god can save you if your car meets with an accident with any cab(or swaraj mazda),firstly they will abuse you in local langauge and then demand money from you for the damage for which you are not resposible at all.
This happens only in India.

I don't give a damn on these idiotic cabbies! instead i do the same what they do to us! I honk hard to them until they give me way, i don't leave them cutting in my line, if you drive like those in front of them, they will drive sensibly and that is the way to tackle these fools [;)]

Situation i face atleast once a week-
On a narrow busy road you will see a small truck or school bus coming from the opposite side. They are wider than the usual car so occupy more than half the road,so you naturally move your car to the most extreme left.
Behind these buses or trucks you will find a brainless two wheeler travelling parallel ( near the rear wheels)waiting to overtake rather than peeping from behind the bus etc.So now 75 % of road is taken cos the bus has another two wheeler travelling next to it.
Bang! Your side mirror is gone & two wheeler fellow has just managed not to fall under the wheels of the bus [anger],am pretty sure you will find such behavior common all over India.

A traffic cop caught hold of a rash two wheeler as he narrowly missed colliding head on with me blocking me near a busy marriage hall road.If i had not come to a stand still he would be in my windscreen, plus he did not have a helmet nor his headlights on.All the passer bys as usual hurled some abuse at the fellow & cops caught hold of the biker.

That is true. There are so many Autos and Two wheelers are with no head lights and the worst part is they come in wrong side of dark road and that too very fast. Unless other wise we notice and stop our vehile as prads did am sure we will hit on them.

I remember in Madurai [Town in TN], i used to afraid to ride even bicycle without light in my childhood. We used to rent cycle for fun and we do not take a cycle without light.

But I believe no one bothered now a days.

Yep, a problem faced all over India. I once saw a similar situation, with bus on extreme left, followed by a car then a scooter, leaving almost zero space for oncoming traffic(It was a red-light). I was on foot, and got angry so asked scooter rider, "Saamne wale udd ke jaenge?"(Will oncoming traffic fly?). He felt ashamed and said "I was asking the same to this car". I replied, "But you too are in wrong way! What's the point of asking him!?". Again, he answered, "Arre me to abhi side ho jaunga na jab samne se traffic aega"(I will move when traffic comes)
The situation is same all day on this signal. There are many schools around it so school buses, vans, students on bikes become a real headache! [frustration]

If only the great politicians & leaders of this country had the foresight & vision of 50 years ahead of their times and planned our cities & towns accordingly ! Unfortunately most of these people are thinking about only their families 50 years ahead of their times meaning try to grab enough wealth which will last for their next 4 generations ...

*facepalm*

The road itself is great. Its wide enough for smooth flow of traffic too! This road is wider & in better condition than many national highways in HP! Its the stupid drivers who create nuisance.

In that case a divider is what is necessary at that spot! someone should notify the local authorities for setting up a divider so people do not crossover to the other side... unfortunately in India you need dividers, speed-breakers & other obstacles to discipline people.. I have myself seen people who in situations where the traffic even slows down a few seconds start driving on the opposite site knowing fully well that there will be oncoming traffic and what they are doing will make the situation worse!

Not sure if any one has posted this before. But many times on 4-lane highway with divider; one can see two trucks trying to overtake each other. Neither of them slows down and give way but they will roam as of they are in garden resulting a big line of vechicles behind. Last week on Pune- Mumbai road between wakad & sus Phata on NH-4 the same thing happened. Two trucks were going side by side and behind was huge line of cars getting stucked since none of them were ready to give up. One smart biker somehow managed to overtake them (though risky) and stopped in front of left side truck and allowed the right side truck to move forward. He then asked the driver to view in his rearmirror about the traffic line before & if he could not listen to multiple horns. Due to traffic I cannot wait more to see what happened next but this things can be seen on Indian roads only.

Though it has not been posted here, i am sure many would have faced this issue in the highways often including me, this happened once and there was a huge traffic behind these two trucks, i was behind these trucks and followed them at-least for 2 minutes, once i came to know that none of them would overtake each other, i rested my hand in my horn until one of them gave way, that's the only way to sweep them [glasses]

by reading this thread i wonder if i am in india or pakistan.same driving habits here.a disease which has spread recently that people use wrongway in fast lane if they find their lane is closed/ jammed. the worst drivers are motorcyclist. they claim to have entire right to use the road as they wish.
