The 2014 Honda City

I think there is 3-4% benefit for Cars over 4m and engine displacing 1.5 L. City is one of them, I said in one of my earlier post that Honda may digest the benefit or they may include it in final Price Announcement. This I the same reason why Ford Detuned the New Fiesta's engine to bring displacement under 1.5 L. But the benefit was not passed to customers, instead it became costliest car in its segment though its a brilliant car !!.

Re: The 2014 Honda City

oh my my my!!!! Honda is seriously changing the game on heels... Since CITY / JAZZ / VEZEL all share same platform and components, I seriously want honda to price aggressively , as they did for AMAZE. I am seriously looking upto JAZZ launch next year. Seems VEZEL may come later because of limitation of product line numbers, but if they launch by early 2015, I may even dump JAZZ plans and will be the first one to buy it.

Ajay,

1.5 L premium is already way too high for a corresponding diesel model as with diesel de-regulation difference between the two fuels is decreasing and manufacturers just can't price the diesel counterparts too high!
Hi Rahul,

I was only considering the extreme. I was only kind of analysing the situation what if they charge 1.5 L and do we still get it under 14L. Yes you are right. 1Lakh to 1.2Lakh is the diesel premium generally

Re: The 2014 Honda City

Looking at Vezel and Fit, its very evident that City will also share most of the design DNA.

Posting some pics to which outlines the front section. Looks like definitely we are going to see same face for City too. Vezel looks aggressive where Jazz much sober so City should be in-between.

Vezel

Fit

Dash layout should be almost the same IMO and it looks classy to me. Only thing to note is none of the new vehicles have ACC. I don't know what's the reasoning here not proving the ACC. Probably something to do with fuel economy? Touch screen looks very evident to be there for City. Almost no curves on the dash and everywhere, just straight lines, I think Honda generally has this design even in older models. Arrow design? [thinking]

Fit

Now the rear portion is the most unknown, based on the suspected leaks and scoops still there is no clear cut picture. We will have to wait.

Regarding the 1.5L Premium for Diesel, yes its the extreme we are assuming in any case the OTR should not exceed the 14L. Considering the deregulation of fuel prices, who knows by the time prices are announced(may be during Jan) we might see a far better price for diesel. Honda might reconsider the (Higher) pricing for Petrol which has probably the best petrol engine out there. But that's only if government sticks to what it says [evil]. For Petrol buyers(like myself) booking early may be a better strategy IMO.

Paultan.org reports that the 4th gen Honda City will also be launched as a hybrid-only car in Japanese domestic market in 2014Q2. This is good news in two ways :

1. For a car to be launched in Japan, it has to meet very strict safety standards, so we in India can be hopeful of a 5-star safety rating for City. The lack of safety testing for Amaze is what deterred me from considering it for purchase.
2. India can be hopeful of a hybrid-ready model, should the government realize one fine day that it is long term interest to allow tax breaks for hybrid cars - probably when nuclear power has solved India's vast energy demand.

Another thing I want to mention w.r.t to current (3rd gen) City's soft suspension resulting in complaints of poor handling and some body roll by enthusiasts. This problem should go away as the 4th gen City has been designed on the same platform as 2014 Jazz/Fit, which in turn was designed to give a ride and handling keeping the VW Polo as a benchmark. In words of Honda’s Senior Ride and Handling Engineer, Terumasa Kotada -

In upping our game, we wanted to make a stronger international competitor, so we benchmarked our Fit on the Polo. The moment you get in the Polo, you notice how low you sit in the car. This instills confidence. And then when you drive the Polo, you notice how low its roll center is and its huge stability levels, instilling even more confidence. To get our desired result, I tested the car extensively on the autobahns in Germany.
The question is - will Honda City be able to improve the handling, give a plush ride, and at the same time keep the GC high enough ? I'm hopeful the Honda engineers will delight us.

Only thing to note is none of the new vehicles have ACC. I don't know what's the reasoning here not proving the ACC. Probably something to do with fuel economy?
The Japanese version of 2014 Fit/Jazz does have ACC. See the specs. Also see this pic from IAB:

Whether Honda considers it a worthwhile feature for Indian buyers and climate is another matter.

Ohk,

You must be referring to the difference of 3%, which is explained below:-

"Any car having a length of less than 4-meters, powered by engines less than 1.2-liter (gasoline) / 1.5-liter (diesel) in cubic capacity is considered a small car in India. These cars are subjected to an excise duty of 12 percent. Any car above 4-meters in length but falling in the above engine capacities is charged with 24 percent excise duty. Then there are those cars which are neither 4-meters in length nor falling in the above engine capacities: 27 percent excise duty."

So the difference between 24% and 27% is what you are referring to which is 3%!!

Yup, Ford didn't pass that to the customer and moreover launched it at the most premium price!

The 2014 Honda City

Guys, Honda City is no longer available on the Honda India Official Website. It'll get updated by noon with new one. Waiting for 12PM. Well there have been speculations regarding how this new City might be, here are my conclusions( with reasons)

1. Crider( It is available only in China and slots between Civic and Accord)

2. Current City with jazz like Front( Honda said that current City would not get diesel, because it's not designed to get one)

3. The render with couple standing beside it is possible, though it would also be not what Honda has for us, so let's wait and watch. Another 2 hours to go.!!

Re: The 2014 Honda City

I don't think it will have a new name. They have kept previous 3 generations of the City on display outside the venue.
