Zest is the most VFM car in the segment and you need to look no further. The qjet is a fiat engine which is trusted workhorse in Tata, fiat and Suzuki vehicles. So you should have no worries with the engine. As for the car I can say that this is a car which is bug free. Being a machine few niggles may be present which are been attended by TASS and have been managing to give trouble customer experience. I have storme since 2013. I am happy with TASS.
If you have the budget may be you can look for Automatic version in the same mid variant XMA. or XMS slightly higher variant with airbags seat adjustment but no automatic.

So yes you can plonk your hard earned money in Zest. It will not fail you.

Hi Saurabh,

As quoted above, Zest is a true VFM[clap].
However, if you are considering a diesel engine, I would suggest just wait for Figo Aspire which will be launched in August.

Yes but it will be probably be expensive than Zest and I guess the maintenance cost of a Ford car is higher than that of a TATA.

Hi Saurabh,

I have owned zest diesel xms variant. As of now I dont have much problems with it.It is running very good.
The ZEST QJD is VFM car. So you can go ahead with it.

Not at all bro. The maintenance cost is less compared with Tata.

I had earlier owned a Manza and now im owning a Fiesta. In Manza, for every service the average bill is Rs.6500 and with fiesta the maximum i got is Rs. 4500.

Well, that is a nice piece of information.
Now that Ford is selling spare parts in open market, the maintenance can be done in non-Ford service centers as well.

Re: Tata Zest XM (Revotron) Ownership Review

Have you got your ECU update done ?
Probably yes [confused],
last week i raised this concern to TM and the service center's customer relationship manager came with a very experienced service person to see my car.
They took the car yesterday to the service center and did something , he said we checked everything with Tata software and did very small changes. I drove only 15 kms since then and mainly in city traffic so i am not sure if the issue has been resolved(Because pickup issue is more evident while slowing down from highway speeds) i will test it on highway this weekend.
But definitely car seems more peppy then previous, on the other hand i can feel a quick FE down at idling.[frustration]
BTW which ECU updated are you talking about, have you got something done or faced similar issue.

To everyone who is planning to buy Zest, please read this for one time before you even think of going ahead with your purchase.

Purchased the car in Dec 2014.

Since February, steering wheel of car is not self centering at slow speeds when starting off. Tata plant team "certifies" that there is no problem in car after 8 visits to the workshop, once for 8 days at a stretch.

Car was in service center for 8 days for above problem, new problem introduced - driver seat started giving creaking noise. Tata says it is repairable but we will replace as a special case.

Handbrake was not working on slopes with even just 2 passengers, had to get it fixed.

AC stopped working one day, started working the next day as workshop, Tata found everything ok so according to them there is no problem.

Reverse parking sensor sounds suddenly stopped and then started working suddenly.

Sudden automatic horn when locking with remote key one day - for precisely 30 minutes. Then went off by itself.

Boot spring became stiff in less than 2 months, service advisor insisted that it is normal wear and tear, had to get it fixed in front of me.

Driver side sun visor was vibrating badly, service advisor insisted that it is same on all zests, had to pursue to get it replaced.

Rattling noise in dashboard - had to get 3 service center visits to get it fixed.

DRLs stopped working suddenly, Tata motors gave me "logic" to start them if they stop working.

Don't even ask about mileage.

Trust me you will have a hard time.
HI Atatu,

I also faced few issue same as of yours probably the reason is the same lot as I got my Zest RT XT in Jan 15 so it is a 2014 manufactured car.
Steering wheel is is not self centering and even not that light as it was in the test car, i also sent 4 times my car to service center for this as one of the major issue, in the last visit, service center wrote to TML for this issue and here is the only solution from TML this issue, probably helpful :

Option 1:
Turn your steering wheel full left and then full right before moving ahead , EUC will identify the center for steering wheel and then it shall start self centering it.
Option 2:
Start moving your Car, once the 30Kmph speed is achieved ECU shall automatically identify the center of steering wheel it will start self centering.

Although NO one would want to do that again and again but that's the only solution i got from TML.

Handbrake was so useless , I was in a very peculiar situation at a very steep slop (Bhuleshwer Temple - Pune people will know how steep that incline is) where i could not stop the car after it got turned off because of sudden braking while moving uphill. Sent it to service center, they tighten it , i shall check it again at any slop now.

For reverse parking sensor for me i never faced this issue. Just check it once more , as if nothing is behind the car it wont sound until anything comes in the range of sensors, Sensors are definitely good in this car.

Automatic horn might be due to if Headlight remained turned on. Did you notice this issue at night.

Mileage is around 10 -12 i get in in city traffic and 14 on highways. 5500 kms completed so far.

Definitely, this is a good looking, low priced car with great features BUT with known Tata new car Issues as customer are the best and no cost prototyping test labs for them to identify and rectify the issues later on.

Hi Frnds,

It could be that the cars belonging to that batch of Nov/Dec 2014 could have some issues, i have a April-2015 vehicle delivered in June-2015. I did take time for me to get used to this car as i was driving a I10 before.
1. Regarding Steering, it would center at low speeds or at least for few meters after you start driving your vehicle.
2. Handbrake i didnot face any issues.
3. LOW Pick up: It depends on the mode your drving in. I use ECO and the pick up is low i agree but not that bad. I can pull my vehicle in 3rd gear even if it is around 20KMPH speed but if i do the same in an I10 it would stop.
4. Coming to mileage, well in Bangalore (a place when sometimes it takes an hour to cover 2kms) the mileage i get is 11-12.5 w/o AC and in ECO mode. I had taken my beauty on a highway drive to Hyderabad and it gave me 18.5 Kmpl in ECo mode with A.C with 4 people and travelling at a average speed of 100kmph, but while on the return journey i got a mileage of 16.5 kmpl where in i drove sometime in City mode.

Even i face few niggles like
1. When driving from Hyd to Bangalore in the city i heard faint sound from the dash board near the steering wheel but it disappeared once i the vehicle entered the highway. It looked Strange for me.
2. Sound from the front suspension on the driver side when i go on a speed-breaker, but when i adjusted the speed at which i get on to the speed-breaker there was no sound.
3. Headlights are inadequate for night driving and i would be happy if tata does something in this regard.

Overall the confidence it gave me when on the highway at speeds of 120Kmph while it was raining cats & dogs was just superb and i say with pride that i have taken the right decision by choosing Zest over Dzire.

You are facing this issue even with projector headlamps.
Just curious to know.
To be frank projector headlamps are of no use/inadequate when you are on the Highway, before my trip i planned to upgrade my lights to Osram Night breakers H1 (high beam) and H7 (Low beam) but then thought let me give a try and then if i wasnt satisfied i would change them....now i may be changing them.
