Re: Brand New Sedan Class (Vista QJD VX) 1.6 Years - 40K+ Kms on ODO

@ Appu, I also wanted to put an armrest for my Manza.

Do you have any installation pics or tell me how it was installed.

anshuman8, I too want to fix one. But I do not like the black painted stand. Looks odd. Need to cover it (the fixing plates) with suitable matching fabric/artleather before fixing it. That way it will look like a part of the car.

@AppU
I also need to know if the front seats have to be removed for fixing the stand.

Sir, in that case we can do it jointly in Bangalore. And you do not stay very far from me[:D]. In case you know any good fitter/accessory shop please let me know also.

Actually I saw one in Black/Beige combo in snapdeal. Also I think your car has beige flooring and parts. Mine is black like Appu's Vista.

Yes anshuman8. We can do it together. I would like to wrap the fixing clamps, (circled red in the image below), with some fabric/art leather to match the unit and the car before fixing it. That way it will look more like an OEM fixing than an after market accessory.[;)]

Your armrest looks cool[clap], BTW is that making any interference while shifting the gear and putting the hand brake?
Thank you linkin,

Arm rest is not interrupting while engaging gears. There is enough space between gear lever and Arm rest.

to Engage the Handbrake, we need to pull up the Arm rest.

@ Appu, I also wanted to put an armrest for my Manza.

Do you have any installation pics or tell me how it was installed.

No HR, No need to remove the front seats.

I followed the below steps which I followed to install the Arm Rest:

1. First keep the Armrest on the Handbrake console to mark the position which is convenient to you.

2. There is only one screw connecting the Handbrake console with gear boot console. so, first engage the Handbrake, then unscrew the screw and detach the console from the gear boot console.

3. Then keep the Armrest on the marked line and mark for the holes.

4. Make the hole with the help of screwdriver/Tester/Big screw/Driller and tighten the screws.

5. Then fix the Arm rest with the Handbrake console.

6. Then attach the Handbrake console with the gear boot console and tighten the screw.

that's it. Arm rest will be ready for use[:D]

Hope you guys got some idea about it.

@HR: I'll call you and let you know the procedure of installing it[;)]

Thanks AppU for the "Illustrated Setup Guide"[;)]

  1. Remove the handbrake console/cover as shown in the fig.
  2. Fix the armrest to the handbrake console/cover
  3. Re-fix the handbrake console/cover back.
Looks fairly simple - since we do not have to remove the seats.

Now my question is "how sturdy is the handbrake console/cover?" as the whole weight of the armrest will rest on it. What is your take on it? do you think it is strong enough to take the abuse?

It is very good enough to hold/take Arm rest on it. the thickness of console is some 3-4mm. The material used for the console is very good. So no need to worry about it[;)]

But if you need to remove/pull up the armrest to engage the handbrake , is it not a safety issue in case of emergency?

In that case if we use the height adjustment plate there will be sufficient gap to engage the hand brake also. My assumption.

We have to make sure that the height does not hamper shifting gears too. Or we might end up with a pain in the left arm/elbow...

Let's not hijack Appu's thread for this.

@ HR and Appu, please continue discussion here.

I am listing the possible models which we can buy for Manza. Then let us decide on the installation part.

Even I tired to engage the handbrake in a small gap, but I was not able to engage the handbrake properly.

But, we can release the handbrake without pulling up the armrest[:)]

+1 to HR, the arm rest has to be in the same height of gear lever, otherwise you will end up with a pain in Arm[:)]
