Re: Tata Venture Exclusive Road Test Drive Review

Okay some spy shots of the Venture:
TATA-Venture-CR4_2.jpg

Tata’s MUV Venture was touted to be a deal maker for the company and the company expected to put a dent on the petrol-only Omni’s sales.

However, the truth did not take much of a time to sneak out and the result was – there was no competition at all! That was partially also attributed to the fact that Venture’s sales were limited to only the BS3 cities because of its older diesel engine.

Now, amidst speculations of Tata discontinuing the older Venture, one of the dealers here in Pune denied the same, when we asked them. We are also unsure about the truth, but what we do know is the fact that Tata is busy testing the Venture in a new guise. The new Venture will come with Tata’s best yet CR4 diesel engine.

This CR4 engine is already doing duty on the Indica and Indigo and will soon find its place under the bonnet of Vista. This 1396cc diesel engine produces 70PS of power output and a peak torque of 140Nm. But the major talk of the town is its fuel efficiency of 25kmpl which puts it bang among the most fuel efficient engines in India.

With this new engine, Tata will be able to sell the Venture in all the major BS4 compliant cities of India. We expect the launch to happen towards the middle of the year at around similar (or wee bit more) prices than the current Venture.

I remember TML saying that we will come with a refreshed Venture soon, so this might be a road for it. Yes we really need it. Guess that's the reason there are huge discounts on the current version.

Re: Tata Venture Exclusive Road Test Drive Review

Venture is a good product only let down by it's lethargic engine, once the CR4 engine is plonked in it's engine bay that problem will be sorted.
I hope the prices remain the same, as it is already falling in the Sumo's ballpark.

I wonder why Tata's didn't launch this product with CR4 engine from day 1

You think CR4 is good enough to power this vehicle? Because only the CR4 engine which is used in Indica eV2 can be plonked in this thing, also that engine makes 70PS which is sluggish because the power-to weight ratio is 35bhp only(thanks to its 2 tons unladen weight of the venture) of power which is same as the current Tdi and doing duty in the Venture.

When it was launched in July 2011, CR-4 had not forayed into the market. Also the venture was not launched pan-India, first it came to Rajasthan, then Thane, and to all other states slowly.

Vishwas, you sure that the unladen(kerb) weight of Venture is 2 tonns? Because Storme's unladen weight is 2 tonns, and Venture looks really small when compared to Storme? Or did you meant the gross weight(fully laden) of the vehicle?

Oh no, Venture has too much of kerb weight, that's the reason for the vehicle being very sluggish my boy. It was done to reduce the body roll.

Thanks for the hand out there Raja.

@Vishwas & @Raja

Check the official website. The kerb weight is not 1990kgs,but the gross weight is.

There is no way on this earth that Venture will weigh the same as Tata Safari,no way.

Here is the official link, please check:Tata Venture Specifications | Compact MPV Diesel | Utility Vehicle - Tata Motors

You can clearly see GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT = 1990 kgs.

The kerb weight should be at least 550kgs less, around 1400kgs.[:)]

THE X-OVER
Even that is heavy when compared to its rivals, shouldn't be so much. Else they should think about rebuilding the vehicle again which is a costly affair.

No it is correct, some-where mis-understanding on the weight ratios.[:)]

@Vishwas,

competition? Well, Omni is almost dead now. I mean Suzuki has stopped selling it. Premier has a product, which was still born. Venture is a loner now.

I dont think vans can do any better in the future.

Omni dead now? no way dear, its still going strong at 5k mark, MS has halted the production to clear the stock that's all, that doesn't mean Omni has been stopped for selling.

+1, but there are many families who depends upon vans too.

If you think of it the Venture makes a lot of sense-however,at the current prices-the difference is too big for the diesel savings-and the image-it needs a big family car makeover!

Re: Tata Venture Exclusive Road Test Drive Review

On chatting with a senior person at a TML showroom, asked about the Venture. He said its was a failure, production stopped and the CR4 from the Indica was being put in...well nothing new.. but seems to confirm that a hopefully better v2 version will be here-don't know when-will the power be adequate?-well moving a 1.5-2 ton machine is not easy task-my guess is probably not!-hope i'm wrong!

The V2 launch is said to come in September, but one thing, none of the showroom guys are interested in selling the Venture, they will suggest you to buy the Sumo only!

Re: Tata Venture Exclusive Road Test Drive Review

Been to Ooty recently and was pleasantly surprised to see some Ventures running about!!!-did not believe they had the power to do that!
Most auto mags and TV shows are comparing 6 seater vehicles with luggage-i feel sad that the Venture could easily be a blockbuster for Tata-7-8 seats, decent luggage space... if only[frustration]
Well lets hope the V2 in Sept? is more than just chrome garnish here and there!
