Hello, TAI. I ma new to this forum but usually following many posts.

I got my first car in form of Tata Tiago XZ Diesel two months back. Probably it was second Tiago in my city Surat. And one of the initial delivery of Gujarat. I've been following Tiago since November 2015 and kept visit local Tata Dealer during February as it was going to launched on 6th Feb but later due to Zika virus matter went south. But never the less , after waiting period of almost 1.5 month, I got my white Tiago Diesel.

A lot of people warned me before choosing Tata because of old mentality of "Tata ke khataare" . But I've met loyal Tata fans who explained that Tata might be bad at designing things but they are master of "Value for money" products. And also, I got confident about Tata after seeing friend's Zest which he has abused by all means yet Zest is loyally performing.

I will share my ownership review and forgive me if I am biased towards my darling TiaGo.

After using Tiago for two months, I've driven it around 3000 km and experience is the best. I went to Ambaji (Mataji's temple) which is 980 km round trip and I could clock 24 kmpl mileage. It was less because engine was not yet roused properly and I went to 150 kmph on express highway which affected the mileage. currently I am getting almost 19-20 kmpl in city. So mileage wise
It performs very well.

I like the engine rev at low gear. It reminds me a lot of Indica but sound is very sweet. On high gear, engine becomes less noisy with high frequency sound. Since this is my first car, I thought NVH were very high. I used to drive someone else's Honda City petrol which has low NVH because of Sedan model and better insulation and I compared Tiago with it.But after that I saw Swift Diesel, i20 diesel and Amaze diesel which has similar or higher NVH than Tiago.

Interior is highly advanced than earlier Tata. Attention to detail is very good. Seat cushions are good as well as premium quality. Although I don't like floor matte which attracts a lot of dirt.

There is no complain about Harman powered Connect next Sound system. It has all the required features with premium high-quality sound. Bluetooth and USB connectivity is readily available. Call clarity with in built mic is superb. It has reverse parking assistant but I do miss Camera as in Zest.

Build quality is extremely "Patthar cheap". I mean just open the bonnet and you'll realise what Tata has done for safety. Metal is extremely thick as compared to similar cars in same segment. 13 Lac Honda city has weaker sheet metal as compared to Tiago. For a comparison, 1.2L baleno has kerb weight of 785kg and 1.0L Tiago has kerb weight of 1120Kg. This is real Indian car, build quality-wise.

Speed enthusiast might get a little disappointed with 3-cylinder engine's low acceleration I think this is the best car for money when it comes to city+highway usage in equal weightage.

Will add few more details as I get free time.

Well, Dealers are in jiffy because of Tata motor's certain condition of buying all variants of Tata cars. Like if they have order of 50 Tiago, they need to order certain Zest and Nano too. This kind of idiotic clause is stopping a lot of dealers from selling Tiago. I bought from Auto Point Surat and they had almost 100 booking in initial 1.5 months. Petrol variants were delivered but diesel variants are still in waiting period. I hope Tata ramps up the Tiago's production which is just 1200 cars per day.

1200 car per day is huge number. they would be manufacturing close to 24000 cars in month will wipe out deficit in one month itself. This is what Maruti must be doing for altos and swifts.

Even if they do 500 cars a day that should be good enough.

Hi Tiago Owners,
I was the first ones to book a Tiago XZ Petrol and got mine delivered on 5th May. In almost 3 months that I have owned it, I did not find the usual problems that have been listed like AC and engine noise. Probably the best small cars today at this price!
However, I have faced one problem where, the first few kms I drive the car daily, the engine misses and give jerks/jolts to the car. It runs beautifully after the first few minutes of starting the car.
It is quite annoying which you do not expect from a new car. The Tata service engineers have looked at it thrice but are not willing to acknowledge any issue. They say if I feel something is wrong is probably because it is a 3 cylinder engine, and that it will go away with time by around 10000 kms on the meter. I find the reason very odd and unacceptable!!
Would like to know if any of the owners noticed a similar problem, or is it just my car?

This is a common complaint from most first time Tiago owners. Make a habit to run the car idle for a minute in the morning before moving the car. Any engine is designed to run at optimum temperature levels. So the engine will accelerate itself to 1200rpm till it stabilizes at the optimum temperature. It is best to idle the car till the engine speed stabilizes at 900rpm before moving the car in the morning or after a long break.

I too faced this issue. As DJ bro pointed out, let the engine run at idle for a minute or two and you will see RPM going down to 800-ish. Start driving after this happens and you won't run into jerks.

Just let it be on Idle for some time and you should not feel the jerks. Its not about 3 cylinder or 4. Its a new car and the engine is in run in period however it is always advised to let the engine be on idle while a cold start. Hope it helps[:)]

Thanks DJ Bro for the reply. So I tried as you suggested and it worked!
Here is my observation- The moment I start the car, the tachometer shows the rev slightly fluctuating between 1200-1400rpm. I idle the engine for 1 to 1.5 minutes, and the rev goes down quickly to around 800 rpm. The car runs without any hiccups post that!
Thanks again!
Though I still wonder- why does Tiago have this issue? Will it go away with time? I have owned a number of different cars over the last 20 years, but never such an issue.

Yes It will be smooth with time however it is always advised to give idle time on cold start and you can see the difference in smoothness of revs with all the engines now a days specially from n above BIV norms :)
