Just happened to bump in to another storme review where it has been compared with XUV and Duster in BSMotoring. And for them the winner is Duster.[frustration]
Tata Safari Storme vs Mahindra XUV5oo vs Renault Duster: And then there were three
autocar did a comparo between xuv , and duster and duster was winner .

http://www.autocarindia.com/Feature/325649,renault-duster-vs-mahindra-xuv500.aspx

Its allways better to see if the given car solves your purpose and then take a call , magazines just give a opinion and nothing else

I find it immaturity of us Indians where we ask and compare Duster and Suv.

in west it would be ridiculous,They know which is a city car and what is an SUV

Some people (Indian brothers) ask me "you have a car and a bike ,why?"[roll]

Hey friends,

As I mentioned on the storm thread one my friend has bought XUV 500 W8 recently and I had a chance to drive it for a short while and here my impressions go in comparison with Storm.

Looks
1.Storm : Looks beautiful from every angle
2.XUV : Looks really great from front, but it fails to impressive from rear and sides it looks ok

Space inside
1.Storm : Got excellent space all around either it is driving area, 2nd row and jump seats
2.XUV : Good in driving area, but at driving seat little less and head room is less. 2nd row space is really good, but the second row seat height is not good as they were not reaching to my shoulder area. 3rd has bit cramped seating and Adults are not comfortable with bit little longer legs, but short people can fit well and it can accommodate only two comfortably. The problem is if vehicle is fully loaded with people then every body has to carry their own luggage as there is no boot space left where as in Storm near the jump seats there is a space where you can keep your luggage, but jump seats are only for kids. Under thigh support is good in both, but seat size in XUV looks bit small to me comparing Storm

Steering position
1. Storm : Not bad, but it could have been little upside for a comfortable feel
2. XUV : Also more are less same like Storm for me, but surprisingly its adjustment is in different way it comes in and out and not up and down like other cars, so it is also cramped to me and head room matters there. I have completely adjusted the seating to the lowest postion, but my legs are touching the steering console, so I have to pull the seat backwords to adjust to it

Visibility
1.Storm : Excellent visibility all around and especially in front it is very clear
2. XUV : very less visibility of rear and front we cannot see the bonnet end, sides is better

Dash
1.Storm : Plain without much of items mounted there, but looks rich
2. XUV : Loaded with lot of things there, but I felt bit clumsy.
dash quality is good than storm but again storm looks different with those beige interiors

Engine start
1. Storm : is super silent when you start and impressive with its knocking sound
2. XUV : is also good with that initial knocking sound, but if you accelerate a bit the sound changes to something else

Doors
1. Storm : Doors are lighter and the sound while closing is good, the handle is impressive
2. XUV : Doors are bit heavy and sound while closing is good

NVH levels
1.Storm : Less NVH levels while idle and while running
2. XUV : bit more when compared to Storm while running is much more

Fit & finish
1.Storm : Good but with some big panel gaps, may be needs imrovement
2. XUV : Good than Storm

Gears
1. Storm : Easy and ratios are impressive, slight vibration found
2. XUV : position is not so easy to engage, but short and sweet ratios and no vibrations

Ride quality
1. Storm : excellent on all types of roads
2. XUV : is also good on good roads, but bit bumpy in bad roads

Pick up feeling
1. Storm : Good, but looks bit slow in 2nd gear, but after 3rd it real cruise
2. XUV : Right from 1st gear the pick up looks good

Low end torque feeling
1. Storm : is really impressive and useful for city traffic driving conditions
2. XUV : Not as impressive like Storm and at times we need to change the gear from 3rd to 2nd

Brakes
1. Storm : Storm scores too good, very confident braking
2. XUV : not good as Storm and some times bit scared as loosing control to stop

Suspension
1. Storm : Good not too soft and not too hard
2. XUV : Looks bit hard on bad roads(I have checked the air pressure in tyres it is sufficient)

Pedals area
1. Storm : Looks bit cramped with vision, but while usage it is sufficient enough
2. XUV : Looks bit free than Storm, but dead pedal doesn't make a difference to me

Things I liked in XUV are in a traffic if you stop it and engage the handbrake, remove legs from all pedals it will switch off after a while and if you want to start again, just press the clutch it will start. Good one to save fuel

Rear camera on the dash is really impressive

The Arm rest with box is good !!

Overall scores(on 10 point table)
1. Storm - 9.5/10
2. XUV - 9.2/10

Now enjoy few pics here[:)]

Nice and short comparo between the both Gurralla sir, but how's the audio quality on both the vehicles? If i am not wrong Storme doesn't have rear view camera right? it would have been a welcomed feature, because many cars starting from 10 lakhs has this feature as a standard fitment.

@ Gurralla

Nice comparo . But I just don't agree with you on 1 point , xuv is more torquey in low revs , the storme is easy in traffic because of the clutch its very easy and light on your foot when you operate it .

And like you I too found xuv gears easy to operate infact the storme had more hardness to it with use I hope they become smooth .

I think dharmesh too found the gears a bit hard if iam not mistaken .

Where is your comparo between storme and Scorpio ?

@ vishwas .

Storme and xuv both don't have . Both have reverse sensors ( top model in storme and both models in xuv ) . And not all cars have them as a standard fittment . Laura dosent have 1 , nor does the city , fiesta only Hyundai verna has .

P.s - xuv which Gurralla drove might have a dealer fitted camera .

Superb comparo RK sir.And Storme scoring more in your comparo speaks solid volumes about how good a product it is.Only if Tata had thrown in some nice goodies and launched 4x4 in Lx,the deal could have been a whole lot sweeter :(-

Two major thing I loved in XUV5oo are

1.Benefit of 6th gear, for highway lover like me, and the low end torque.

2.Hyperactive approach of Mahindra -which gives enough confidence for buyer to have no second thoughts. (indicative of where to put my money)

Rest of the creature comforts and parameter looks alike.

Xuv wins hands down.

Nice comparo Gurrala. Loved reading every word of it.

More pics are welcomed.
Thank you dharmesh, try and take some more pics soon

Audio setup wise, XUV is far away from Storm including the controls on the steering
Audio quality, it is different quality in both and XUV scores here, but Storm also has some good quality sound too

I agree with you on this Raja, but yes clutch makes difference here where Storm has good light clutch setup and XUV clutch set up is not good to me as the moment you change the gear and leave the clutch either vehicle jumps are engine goes off, it happened to me twice, but in Storm was never

Superb comparo RK sir.And Storme scoring more in your comparo speaks solid volumes about how good a product it is.Only if Tata had thrown in some nice goodies and launched 4x4 in Lx,the deal could have been a whole lot sweeter :(-
Thank you Xover, Storme scoring more than XUV is my subjective opinion based on my liking here, but the gap is too narrow on the scores part. To be frank XUV scores on something more and Storm scores on something more. About volumes, it is to early to give this judgement for Storm here. Yes TATA would have thrown some features like XUV, then definitely it could have changed the game, but again for person like me they didn't bother much

Jayadeve, I agree with you on the 6th gear part, but low end torque [confused], I will take one more TD to get clarified myself on this

Again one thing about XUV is it is superb to move the beast just like that without any effort, but breaking is not at all confident[frustration] where as in Storm they are planted well and they work superbly. Thanks to all wheels ABS here and I really wonder that some body spoke about ABS failure in Storm[lol]

I thought a single drive would suffice to assess the very nature of any engine, why this repetition ?

That is the benefit of low end torque.

I wonder how you thanks ABS for good breaking, doesn't make any sense.

Perhaps you need to reconsider.

Please dont tell me that you are not an expert with all those long time experience you have been boasting .

For braking thing, please read the same as all wheels disk break and yes I am talking about ABS, but I am sorry I do not like to extend the ABS topic a single word from here
