Re: Scoop! New Tata Safari (aka Merlin) To Launch Soon

What i meant was safari's hatch/boot door starts to squeak very soon. The problem is with the design of the hinges which cannot take the weight of the door with the spare tyre.

In my uncle's car, he removed the spare tyre from the door & placed it in the boot & the squeaking stopped.
+1. It's one heck of a Noise which refuses to go away. I have changed 3 latches and the noise still persists.[frustration] Also the door pads do start rattling mostly due to improper fittings (I have those noises in my Safari too).[frustration]

Re: Scoop! New Tata Safari (aka Merlin) To Launch Soon

Tata are launching Merlin with same G76 MK II gearbox from Aria confirmed.
So Merlin wont have a 6 speed gearbox?

As you know new Safari will not have stepney on tail gate.
They took 13 years to do this?!

Thank you for the acknowledgement. It was being projected here that I made this issue out just to defame TATA !

No one wants to baselessely criticize anything, Not even me! Whatever Tata might come with should have this things taken care off. It's very irritating that I had the same noises of rattling in my very cared 2.0L TCIC (which clocked 2,30,000 kms before I sold her) and the same noises persists in 3.0L and the same in 2.2L. It is nice that Tata's are testing their products to death now.

Actually 140 ps is the max that Safari 2.2 can push, but with all the improvements and the changes Aria's 2.2 can push much more power just with ECU mapping.
See this: Tata Safari Dicor 2.2 VTT 140 PS 320 Nm | Diesel Tuning with CHIP Express™

And there are other brands too which claims Power upgrade in existing 2.2 and 3.0L motors just by adding 2nd ECU. Just my thought, this thread has gone out of its topic seriously!

Sorry for my OT!

Re: Scoop! New Tata Safari (aka Merlin) To Launch Soon

I am not too pleased with the XUV's styling, its kind of good but a bit overstyled. When it comes to styling, I feel TATAs are much better.

Also, I believe Merlin would look like a proper SUV with the traditional Safari attributes, namely space, comfort & ride.

What I just hope that TATA improves in the Merlin w.r.t. the safari is -

1) Much much better dashboard
2) Tighter fit & finish with no squeaks
3) Loads of features which are actually important, instead of DVD screens on headrest
4) Good bottom end response from 2.2 VTT, unlike Aria
5) Reliability

Pricing - a little less than XUV. That would be spot on.

Well merc what I meant was that 140 ps is the maximum output of 2.2 Safari in default mode which means without any adverse effect on engine, gearbox and mileage.Yes I also know about these racing chips.Lets see the final output of Safari merlin though I have come to know from sources that Tata is looking to increase the power output of Merlin, lets wait for 15 more days and the picture will become crystal clear, lets hope for the best.[:)]

Re: Scoop! New Tata Safari (aka Merlin) To Launch Soon

TATA mainly relies on Bosch so as M&M ,when it comes to engine tuning values.

But M&M knows the values required to tune the engine and demand it to be precise from Bosch.

Where as TATA just accepts the engine components, tuning provided by them.

The leading competiotors to Bosch are Delphi.

Good to see this buddy.
Agree with your points above. In addition to it, I also hope that the C pillar should be straightened a bit so that for short distance, 2 tall persons can sit in last row/whatever it is called-face to face seating.

According to internal Tata sources, they will launch Merlin with front facing third row seats ala Aria , also the option of side facing jump seats may continue to exist on demand.Cheers.

@Raj,
I wish your words be heard by TATA and make them a reality. I would not want more features like tyre tronics or Sounds tellin me "Welcome and Good bye"
All i would require a decent VFM and issue free vechile. If this comes true, my money is on Merlin for sure.

Front facing third row will have the following pros and cons:-

Pros:-
  • Added passenger comfort with front facing third row.

  • Now you can get a railed middle row/now middle row can also be moved front and back on rails for added flexibility and passenger comfort.

Cons:-
  • For people like us who seldom travel more than 3-4 people in the car,the boot space will be robbed.

  • Overall flexibility is less for the utilitarian purposes.

Definitely +1,but since now I'll speak the language market speaks "XUV's design looks good to everyone else except some people like I am who loves the plain and long lasting simple looking designs" and this is the reason I always loved the glare of a Scorpio and its overall musculine look over others.(I know I haven't mentioned it before, but I do.I loved the first gen Scorpio in that red+golden combo shade and used to snap its pics too).

What I want in Merlin is a better low speed ride.Damn, maximum of our SUVs do 75-25 city-highway run and the bumpy low speed ride of Safari put it down in the city.

FANTASTIC! The SUV looks awesome, especially in that shade. Totally impressed, great work TATA.

I absolutely loved the front end, waiting for the side profile (seems to be unchanged), the rear & the interiors.

But why does it have the name Safari instead of Merlin?
