Tata Nexon gets 5 star safety rating in GLOBAL NCAP crash tests .First India made car to achieve this feat.[clap]
Now I am a happy owner or what.

my elation knows no bounds.
I am extremely happy and proud for TATA and for NEXON.[cheers]
I always wondered why Nexon is so heavy compared to the competition. Some hatchbacks are mere 860 kgs, with more space inside.
Now I have all the answers. That's why it weighs 1300+ kgs.
Congrats TATA.I guessed Nexon is something special the very 1st day I put my hands on the bonnet.
Thankfully I have got rid of all the zero starred marutis in my stable. Now only Mahindra and TATA remain. And they are rated 4star and 5 star respectively.
Mayankbhai the weight of Tata Nexon diesel is not 1300+ kgs. As per the owners manual it is 1250 kg. But it is as sturdy as Jaguar cars . Even it's design resembles very much to modern Jaguar E-Pace SUV. Its torque to weight ratio is better than Toyota Fortuner ! While long drives on highway I have never felt that it is a sub 4 meter car. I would say it is a perfect car for Indian roads.

This is the average I got when I drove today in the city itself,in city mode in moderate traffic. This is as good as it can get. This is the 3rd time I got this much inside the city driving itself.
While on highways, this figure is a regular affair.Took the photo after I reached my destination.

No.Its too much of an effort .So I never bothered for it.
What difference will it make even if its 3-4 km/ltr less.I would still end up happy, won't I.?

Mayankbhai the weight of Tata Nexon diesel is not 1300+ kgs. As per the owners manual it is 1250 kg.
I don't believe what is written in there. I have my own reasons to doubt this figure. First it was mentioned in the other forums too that NEXON weight was 1305 kgs. Actually Tata themselves gave the moderators this data when they introduced the NEXON. Later they printed something else in the manual. As I was watching all this closely I went ahead and actually weighted the car on a highly accurate computerised electronic scale, when I bought the NEXON.

That is the reason why I was so confident when I mentioned the weight.
Actually I don't know why but the car companies give wrong figures often regarding the weight of the car. Same thing happened with my xuv too. And I got that one on the scale too.

Put this up on their FB page to get Tata's response

And this is what another brother forum on the internet believes. This is from their official review.(all copyrights to the original owner of the content, even though no names mentioned)

Actually there is so much pressure from the critics, who just know comparison between cars by parameters like power to wt ratio,or torque to weight ratio. To protect themselves from stupid auto journos,Auto companies show slightly lesser wt.
Otherwise dumb comments come up in auto magazines, like "Tata's new nexon is not good enough because some X car from maruti( only 860 kgs something with tin can build)power to wt ratio,as well torque to wt ratio is better so X car is actually a better car than Nexon!!.
Nobody esp aam junta, gives a damn, that nexon is 5 star rated, and therefore 1300 + kgs is actually supposed to be good.
So to avoid common mass embarrassment etc Tata must have given slightly lesser wt.
1300+ kgs is actually even much much more than Punto polo, ecosport and all the rest of competition. Its one solid build I tell you.
Now they can proudly announce the reason for the heavy build with obvious facts.

Like you I too get AFE above 27kmpl whenever I tankup set the AFE to zero, and drive for about 5/6km, after which I run out of road and the average drops down.

Yesterday,I changed the air filter of my Nexon. Its nothing technical, can be done as a DIY.

On examining it I found that It was choked and the performance was deteriorating as a result.
Moreover rat had bitten on the foam side so had no other option left.So went ahead and bit the bullet.

Nexon has one of the easiest approach to the air filter housing. It can not be more simple than this car.

old air filter. It still has life left in it.

I was waiting for you to ask me. Xuv weighted 1825 kgs. And it was not having 90%fuel at that time, just 70%. It's a requirement for kerb wt.
New Manual says 1785 kgs. MY 2013 manual says 1860kgs+ or - 15kgs.
I am posting the pic of challan. Here it goes.

IMG-20181212-WA0004.jpg

There are lots of discrepancies in the manual. Therefore I have reason to doubt it.

Even then this much of wt is significant wt,considering;

1) its a monocoque construction and not ladder frame like scorpio, which is actually lighter, the NG one.Harrier is 1685 kgs only even though its longer and wider.
2) front side huge fenders are fibre.
3) All 5 alloys are lighter than wt of 5 iron rims.

There is confusion on the internet and other forums too.

1785 kgs is the kerb wt of W6,not W8 and AWD.

Even I remember reading 1885 KGs somewhere (or was that 1865 something). Fortuner is also same weight.(1890)
Which means with normal load, these SUVs are about 2 tons each. Safari 4x4 is the Heaviest of the lot, with a kerb weight of 2.2 tons and GVW of about 2.7 tons! WOW.

BTW I wonder why there are such differences in manuals. Are brands actually removing stuff with respect to cost cutting (There are weight & Support differences in Indian vs International Ford endy) or are mentioning Dry shipping weight (Sans oils, Fuels, Fluids, Coolant etc) for the sake for Taxes or BHP/TON boasting?
