Official Press Release: Tata Motors announces new Corporate Brand Identity - ‘Connecting Aspirations’

Image-01.jpg

New Delhi, August 21, 2017 - Tata Motors has always kept customers and their aspirations at the heart of its business. The company has always been at the forefront to create innovative mobility solutions, across passenger, commercial and defence vehicles, thereby creating new benchmarks in the industry. As a powerhouse of strong talent, manufacturing footprint and R&D centres across the globe, Tata Motors has an overarching presence in the auto world.

Coming from the House of ‘Tata’, with the solid foundational framework of core values and philosophy, the brand of Tata Motors has an instinctive and unique trait of understanding the needs and aspirations of everyone associated with the brand. Being spread across multiple vehicle lines and geographies, the company, over the years, has felt the need of a common brand promise. This dictates the way the Tata Motors Brand should communicate with the internal as well as external stakeholders and this insight into the character of the brand has led to the creation of a unifying idea for Tata Motors that works as an all-encompassing guiding principle across business units.

After the company embarked on a transformation journey during last year, a comprehensive project on ‘Corporate Branding’ was launched with the support of an external agency. The team undertook a thorough analysis of the existing and the desired future state of the company, gathered a lot of market intelligence and captured the much-required organizational voice, to establish a common theme underlying within the company’s existence.

A detailed review of the recommendations put up to the Tata Motors Executive Committee led to the conclusion and the careful selection of the Brand promise – ‘Connecting Aspirations’.

‘Connecting Aspirations’ represents the personality of the brand as an interconnected system of mobility solutions that are intelligent, perceptive, warm and expressive. It’s a symbolic tagline that is the past, present and future, it’s humble and bold, it’s a statement and challenge.

Easy to communicate and creating a strong resonance with every stakeholder, it is an apt expression to the Tata Motors brand. It is much larger and wider in terms of intent and interpretation - directed towards building the nation, developing smart cities, supporting and implementing government initiatives and delivering new technologies. With passion and expressive intelligence as a design principle, it is in sync with the company’s brand proposition of providing exciting and unique forms of self-expression, where every element of the vehicle represents a unique aspect of consumer’s individuality.

Today, the modern age consumers seek specific forms of self-expression through technology, experiences and the ecosystems they inhabit. It is our endeavor now to translate the form and intent of the new Brand promise into implementation – visible and emotional.

Driven by passion and imagination, Tata Motors has introduced enriching offerings in line with customer aspirations and continues to stand strong as a symbol of innovation and disruption for its customers. The acquisition of every Tata Motors vehicle, regardless of segment, marks an important milestone in the realization of a bigger, much-coveted aspiration or dream.

From manufacturing products to presenting experiences and solutions, Tata Motors has always been an enabling force in the Indian automotive industry. Representing the company’s commitment to take personalization to the next level, ‘Connecting Aspirations’ defines Tata Motors as a brand that intuitively understands people and imagines mobility in all its forms.

Tata Motors domestic sales grows by 26% in August 2017

Driven by strong growth in Commercial Vehicles at 34% & Passenger Vehicles at 10%

New Delhi, September 01, 2017: Tata Motors passenger and commercial vehicles total sales (including exports) in August 2017 were at 48,988 vehicles, higher by 14% over 43,105 vehicles sold in August 2016.

The company’s domestic sales of commercial and passenger vehicles for August 2017 were at 45,906 nos., higher by 26%, over 36,510 nos., in August 2016, due to growing demand across segments and increased positive customer sentiments.

Domestic - Commercial Vehicles

The overall commercial vehicles sales in August 2017, in the domestic market were at 31,566 nos. higher by 34% over August 2016. The sales grew on the back of growing demand across segments supported by the continued ramp-up in production of BSIV vehicles since April this year. The company also passed on the benefits of GST to consumers by reducing the prices of its vehicles across all commercial vehicle segments.

The M&HCV segment saw a strong growth of 52%, at 10,926 nos., in August 2017, over 7,190 units, in August 2016. This segment witnessed strong pick-up in demand on the back of continuously increasing acceptance of the SCR technology, and driven by stricter implementation of regulatory norms on overloading, as well as sector specific (Trucks and Construction Tippers) demand.

The I&LCV truck segment also saw an upward trajectory, at 3,881 nos., grew by 44%, over 2,703 vehicles, sold in August 2016, due to increased buying with the onset of festive season. Tata Motors Passenger Carriers sales (including buses), in August 2017 were at 4,078 nos., declined by 4%, over 4,238 units, in August 2016, largely due to delay in procurement from the State Transport Undertakings.

The SCV cargo and pickup segment continued the growth momentum at 12,681 nos., higher by 35% over 9,377 units, last August 2016, on the back of growing demand for new product introductions of the XL range of Tata Ace and the Tata Xenon Yodha pickup.

Commenting on the sales performance, Mr. Girish Wagh, Head – Commercial Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors, said, “In August, 2017, our commercial vehicles grew by 34% over last year. The increased imposition of restrictions on overloading, growing momentum in the infrastructure, mining and construction segments and continued increasing acceptance of the SCR technology has further boosted the demand in the M&HCV segment resulting in a robust 52% growth. TML performed strongly in the Pickup and SCV segments on the back of the establishment and ramp up of new products such as the Yodha and XL ranges, growing 55% and 25% respectively In the ILCV segment a strong festive season demand and new product interventions helped deliver a 44% growth in volumes. In line with our turnaround strategy, we will be introducing new products and will continue to undertake appropriate measures to improve our performance across segments”

Commenting on the sales performance, Mr. Mayank Pareek, President, Passenger Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors, said, “Tata Motors sales continues to grow on a positive course at the back of strong performance of the new generation cars like TIAGO, TIGOR and HEXA. With Ganesh Chaturthi, we have entered the festive season and we expect the growth momentum to continue.”

Domestic - Passenger Vehicles

In August 2017, Tata Motors passenger vehicles, in the domestic market, recorded sales at 14,340 nos., grew by 10%, over August 2016, bolstered by the strong demand for the Tata Tiago and the Tata Tigor. The car segment remained flat at 11,462 nos., and the UV segment grew by 84% at 2,878 nos., driven by the Tata HEXA.

Cumulative sales growth of all passenger vehicles in the domestic market for the fiscal were at 64,131 nos., a growth of 10%, compared to 58,064 nos., in the last fiscal.

Exports

The company’s sales from exports was at 3 082 nos. in August 2017, a decline of 53%, compared to 6,595 vehicles sold in August 2016, due to continued drop in industry volumes in Sri Lanka and Nepal.

Official Tata Motors Statement

September 7th, 2017

Speaking at the SIAM Annual Convention 2017, Guenter Butschek, CEO & MD, Tata Motors during his address in the session focusing on Regulatory Policies: Analysis of Impact said:

While an array of policies and reforms like the Automotive Mission Plan, Make in India and Smart Cities have had a positive impact on the industry, regulatory uncertainties in the face of Demonetization, BS III to BS IV transition and GST have caused disruptions in the market. With our future Auto Mission Plan, if we have to realize the true potential by 2026, we need to eradicate the basic challenges deeply rooted within the overall ecosystem: accentuated by intermittent regulatory uncertainties. With India lagging on emission and safety norms in comparison to the rest of the world, it is important that all OEMs work towards bridging this gap with a single-minded commitment to invest in future technologies and leverage emerging trends, for a greener and sustainable automotive future.”

The industry understands and fully appreciates the regulatory and policy changes but what we seek today is a platform to ensure a well-orchestrated, collaborative and participative approach from the Government for a policy framework that enables and supports sustainable growth. Today, we live in a world of complexity and hence focus, speed of execution and quality of implementation across the ecosystem will be key to our success.”

Don't know if this is right thread to post this, Moderators please move the post to any other suitable thread if required.

So, I was just surfing net and ended up on TMETC website. Straightaway went to Portfolio section where i saw this timeline.
TMETEC_portfolio-overview.jpg

Now all the information is quite fascinating, on top there is project named CATAPULT just below Nexon Launch. I thought this might be the Tiago EV which was displayed in U.K. today. But then i searched on internet and pleasantly found out its related to Driverless cars. a-la google. That's quite a step from a truck manufacturer. Here's the link for a report on that dated Dec. 5 2014

Tata Motors UK R&D Centre joins 'UK Autodrive' consortium project to demonstrate and integrate driverless cars into everyday life - News...

Its sad that this is happening. TML is producing great cars now and this man has played his part I believe. Hope TML finds a replacement for him ASAP to oversee upcoming launches.

Tata Motors CTO Tim Leverton resigns - Moneycontrol.com

This report says, MD and CEO is not given free hand on the decisions.

Guenter Butschek: Bring your experience but decisions have to be taken locally: Guenter Butschek, Expat CEO, Tata Motors - The Economic Times
Is it because of AMP or Tamo project axing.

He was the key to produce Indigenous in house engine & platform capabilities. Hope Tata got enough from his capability bag.

I dont know the insides, but looking from the outside, Tim Leverton has been excellent for TATA. He brought in knowledge and experience.

BUT, TATA is an organisation. Resignation of one person wont change the direction of progress.

Also, they should find an able and better person to lead the technical department, so that they dont deviate from the path (which looks good) chosen.

They have only got 60% now. Remaining 40% can be won by M&M if they can match TML's bidding price. The final decision on the remaining 40% will be taken by mid October. ET link below:
Tata Motors: Tata Motors bags Rs 1,120 crore order for 10,000 e-cars from EESL - The Economic Times

Now most of the reports say it is the Tigor EV. We haven't seen a prototype of the same. What TML is really up to. Since they are ok with Tiago EV, they think, Tigor EV is also possible without testing in Indian conditions ? Hope this contract will not have the fate of TML's Marcopolo AC LF tenders for BMTC which earned only negative reviews for TML. BMTC approved the model proposed by TML but the performance of those buses were bad. Similarly here EESL is going for the lowest bidder. If the product fails to deliver, it will be the biggest reason for concern for TML once the EV saga gains momentum and open to public in a much higher scale than today.

Wishing TML all the best to win the remaining 40% tender as well as it will boost their plans to be profitable within this FY in a standalone basis. But until they deliver the first car in November, I will remain skeptical about this.
