Re: Fifth Year - Tata Manza Ownership Experience

Buy Tata's Manza if you feel warranty is not important and quality/longevity of parts & accessories is also a minor matter. I bought this car in Aug 2010 and also took an extended warranty (2+2 years). Before the third year the lever to adjust the headlight elevation broke down. Soon after I had serviced the car from one Bedi Motors, Race Course Road, Delhi, after checking out from Tata Motors customer service helpline that it was an authorised service centre. It turned out that Bedi Motors was no more one and happily duped me, while Tata Motors too didn't have the updated list with the customer service and misguided me. Not only that, the stupid service technician at Bedi Motors damaged some of the battery leads. When I had to get these repaired at Concorde Motors, Mathura Road, Delhi, they repeatedly refused to change the lever under warranty on the ground that I've nullified the warranty by getting the car serviced at a "non authorised" centre (Bedi). That was my first shock from Tata.

Six months ago when I got it serviced at Concorde, Patparganj, Delhi, when the car was just 4 years old, the service engineer informed that the radiator fan is breaking down causing extra noise, vibration. Two months back, the stereo (Blaupunkt) stopped working which made my 10 year son ask me: Papa, why Tata? Though a dragging glass pane is normal, but a burning odour inside the cabin isn't! Yesterday I deposited the car again with Concorde, Patparganj. Later I was informed that the least that would be billed would be Rs. 15000/- along with a failing clutch (Rs. 8000/-). Today I was again informed that they would take at least 3 days for all the repairs, and another Rs. 8000/- would be added for the radiator fan assembly. And the headlight lever, stereo aren't included yet! And btw, I'm known in my circles as a good driver who has taken good care of all his cars.

So for me, this is the first and last Tata. But sadly, the Indian market is too large, the advertising-automobile lobby too strong, and customer protection too weak to prevent more people becoming as unfortunate as me. Would like your suggestions...

Sad to know that you had issues with your car. But other than empathise with you, don't have any suggestion to give.

For me it was a good experience with Manza and felt it extremely VFM, easy to maintain and reliable.
I have logged all my experiences with the car in this forum.

It is most likely that my next car is also a Tata depending on the launch of relevant models.

Agreed on ASS front they are poor.
Hi Tornado, TASS at Vapi is reasonably good and that makes the difference.

Re: Fifth Year - Tata Manza Ownership Experience

Five years and 50,000 km service:

Wanted to delay the service for another 4-5 months further since the car is out of warranty and running will be less in this period. (Infact it will take a couple of months more to complete 5 years and also a 2k km short of 50000 mark)
But after a long round trip - high speed highway trip - of 4500 km in hot summer, thought that it is better to do an oil change. So booked for a service last Saturday.

Service experience was good and they did an excellent washing job.

Alternator Pulley and one bearing was out of stock but they arranged it from outside.

Charges:
Synthetic Engine oil 5W40 PETRONAS 3.2 Ltr - Rs 1252.77
Oil Filter - Rs 334.78
Fuel Filter - Rs 1782.61
DG Ball Bearing - Rs 153.91
Front Bearing large - Rs 347.83
Part 9999-7 - Rs 173.91
Pulley Alternator Minda Valeo - Rs 2426.96

BARDHAL Special Duty 0.3 Ltr - Rs 435.65
BG DIESEL ISC 0.228 Ltr - Rs 1208.80

Fitment charges ALT - Rs 600
Oil change service - Rs 694.40
Washing and vacuuming - Rs 320
Discount on Labour charges - (Rs 6.53)
Service Tax for above 3 items - Rs 226.02

Grand Total - Rs 11200

Re: Fifth Year - Tata Manza Ownership Experience

Two days after the service, driver side power window went down while operating and got stuck. Could not close the window.

Went to TASS again and SA attended promptly. Winder gone kaput.
Winding unit replaced.

Cost - Rs 905 including taxes.
No service/labour charges.

Asked them to check the other window also since there is a slight sound from front left side window.
Technician told SA that he checked and he was insisting that there is no issue with the Front left side window (May be he wanted to avoid opening the door panel). However SA asked him to open the door panel and apply spray in the winder. When I went to shop floor could see that technician is working on the door and applying the spray. There is no sound now while operating the power window.

Spray effect remains for few days only.
If noise recurs & if annoying then you might need to replace the winder unit.

Re: Fifth Year - Tata Manza Ownership Experience

Thanks Tornado. Will be monitoring that.

Two days ago received a cheque for Rs 760 from TASS - Rathod Motors against reimbursement of charges paid for a coolant tank in June 2013. Paid the amount at that time since they could not process it through extended warranty at that time. Forgot that for some time and remembered during last service a year ago. TASS said they will process it and the cheque came now. One of the SAs delivered the cheque to me while he was on his way to home after working hours.

I am sure that this act by Tata Motors must have brought a smile in your face. Acts like these will boost customer relation with TASS.

The Ulundurpet- Attur- Salem route is the best and the smoothest.
