Re: TAI Member Pet's Help and Discussions!

One is a miniature pomeranian named SIMBA. He is 12 and half years old. Got him on my birthday in August 2000 when he was just around 20days.

The second one is a Pug named VODA Unfortunately we lost him this year in july as he died of a respiratory disease. He was close to 4years now.
Snow where is this place?Your dog loves it i see. Ya Pugs you are suppose to take them to the Vet every 6 months cos they have respiratory disorder, you got to get them cleaned.Otherwise they make wheezing noises.

and your pug had impressive creases on its face , very rare this days to find a pug with such impressive creases its a sign of very nice pedigree
Pugs usually develop these creases when they are around 3 years old as far as i have observed. In Bangalore after Labrador ,Pugs are the most common dogs you can find here.

Both your dogs are beautiful , and your pug had impressive creases on its face , very rare this days to find a pug with such impressive creases its a sign of very nice pedigree .
Thanks a lot. Yes both of them are of pure breed. I got the pug after searching over a good 2 months and more than 40 kennels to find the right one. And the best part is both of them loved to be photographed. I have like a million photos of both of them.[:)]

The place is Dalhousie in Himachal Pradesh. It's snow covered in the months of December and January. Yes i know Pugs need to be checked up every now and then as their nostrils get blocked very easily as the orifice is very small. But in case of Voda he had a severe one since he was like 2 months old. The Kennel from whom i bought him even was ready to give me a replacement but we got so attached to him by then that we were not ready to part ways and mom used to care for him like her own newborn kid. Vet Doctors had said he would'nt even cross the 1st year but we were fortunate enough that he survived for about 4 years. Yes the creases start coming around after the 2nd birthday.

Those are two beautiful dogs buddy and sorry to hear about VODA[cry]. I know how it feels since i am a dog lover too. Always had a dog at home.

We have a doberman and he is around 8 now and we call him SHAWN.
Yes its a difficult feeling. They become like your own family members and its really difficult to cope up without them. My other one is also turning 13 soon and i am terribly scared of losing him. So taking the best possible care to keep him fit & healthy. And by the way Shawn is a nice name. How about some pics of Shawn?

@350Z is your pom still getting seizures ? How often does it get ?
One of my dogs is epileptic too but medication is a must. I may be able to help diagnose. I'm not a vet but have a lot of experience in this.

And you are right the vet scene is really bad here in India. No specialized vets and lack of test centres is a big challenge to treat animals.

One of the causes for seizures could be head trauma. Do you recollect an incident where she might have hurt herself?

On a side note once in 2 months is ok. It could be due to her sugar levels coming down. How long does the seizure last. When the seizure occurs is it multiple times in a day ?

Seizures usually last anywhere between 15 secs to a minute. Over 2-3 minutes can be fatal but in your case it not very serious as the relapse happens once in a couple of months.

My dog gets about 4-5 episodes that last about a minute every week and the effects last for a day or so.

Important:

1. When a dog is in its seizures it is not in pain. Its heart wrenching to see it during a fit. Its the electrical impulses taht the brain is sending out which is out of control.

2. Never hold it or try to stop a seizure. Keep a soft pillow or cloth under its head to prevent it from injuring itself.

3. Stay calm and reassure that you are there with it.

4. After the episode the dog will appear in a haze and confused state since it does not know what happened. They usually become normal in an hour or so.

5. After a seizure, its a good practise to administer half a teaspoon of honey. The sugars in the honey are absorbed immediately and brings the levels up after a seizure.

No but she has a cyst on head and leg. I’m using a doctor’s prescribed ointment called ‘Eclospan’.

It’s once (usually after the evening). I think it lasts for a minute or so.

Nice tips. Thanks!
