Re: TAI Inter Region Meet in South – West India

Good contribution Raj. How about stay and food over there. It might be silly question, but to make it clear for all am asking this. Jog falls is just a treat to your eyes or like other falls [Kutralam, Hogenagal ] you can enjoy the falls also [Oops, I can see lot of faces staring/smiling at me. Plsssssss] [:)]

BTW, we will wait for other's comments also. Distance wise seems to be equal for both.
there are only resorts and homestays sir
i have not stayed there so no idea on that.
jog falls would be a treat for your eyes only and we cant take bath or do something like some other falls.
but really the place would neatly maintained not so bad like hogenekal or kutrallam.
BTW In the route we can find many streams so we can enjoy and wash our cars[;)]

Re: TAI Inter Region Meet in South – West India

Hahahahahah !! Rajvel are we conducting the meet to wash our cars on the way !! hey buddy I was just joking. Yes Jog falls is a good thing, but you know it is only a treat for eyes for a while, but when we talk about other places, we have lot of ghats there and some places are historic too, we also need some big ground to park our all cars, funny driving, creating TAI with cars, check the cars and their capabilities. So all this is involved in a meet, which I have learnt from Bangalore Chennai meet. So keep looking at the place from this angle and suggest some other too. But good that you are active in doing something and it is appreciated buddy !!

As per your your requirements
jog falls have a large car parking.Where we can park and form TAI.
so pictures followed
hope that could be more apt.
so for your information
murdeshwar will be crowded dont have much space.
you can do wonders in ghats roads in which i love to turn with high speed.
if you want to offroad choose kotachari only red soil you can see the pictures in which only SUV can survey.
another picture would be at jog falls car parking.

Re: TAI Inter Region Meet in South – West India

@Vishwas
Thank you for your inputs in time and I wish you guide us time to time for this meet. How about sakleshpur place wise and distance wise from Mumbai,Chennai,Bangalore.
Sir please excuse me i am finding time everywhere to post a reply here. Back to topic: Its right in the centre of these three cities, if you ask me.

How about Hampi, which looks to be in a fair distance from Chennai,Mumbai. But for this calculations of distances efforts will become valid, when MH members comment and confirm for this.
Hampi will be too far from Chennai, time would be killed only in traveling than meeting.

Any such good places are around Shimoga or Hasan, how about places near Mysore
Shimoga and Mysore is the tourist destination, so you won't regret visiting for you will have alternative places to visit if you are unable to find a particular place. You could add Chickmagalur, that's the reason i am marketing upon this place.

Till date we have not got much comments/confirmation or shows interest in this except 3. I wish we have more people from Mumbai/Pune belt. Friends from west, if you feel driving will be pain, pls join us in Bangalore. You can come by train/flight till Bangalore. Hope other friends from Bangalore or Chennai will be willing to share the ride.

As Mr. gurrala said, all these estimation will be meaningful and valid only when we have some friends from Mumbai/Pune belt also
Is the meet for 4 days or something? Because guys(from Chennai & Mumbai need 2 days only for traveling)

Sethu, Masinagudi is a small village which lies in the foot of the Nilgiris and there's nothing to see at those places except for a dam where you could see the huge water pipe which comes all the way from Glen Morgan (which is near Pykara, worth a visit) and a water-storage area in the middle of the forest where we missed it last time(you need permission from forest officials, if we are lucky we could ask our man(forest ranger there) to gain entry).

See if you could get permission for Mudumalai which is like Bandipur only for accomodation. I think you should book from TN govt. Is the forest office in Chennai?

As per your your requirements
jog falls have a large car parking.
Jog falls is near Shimoga and Chickmagalur again.

For me, i can make for the meet if:
1) The meet is for 2 days all round.
2) Saturday and Sunday.
3) Overall distance be less than 1000 kms.

Sethu

As per Vishwas, Sakleshpur seems to be a central place and also in western ghats. I think we should explore more about this location from our members and internet and see what kind of stay is available and how the places looks to be.

Vishwas

I have already proposed meet duration as 2 days or 1 night in my previous post excluding the travel time from various places. my counting is only from the base camps and back, so rest of the days have to be managed by our members. I think for you since you are in Bangalore the meet should be counted only as 2 days and same for me too as I am trying to reach to Bangalore and proceed from there.

I see that some place which is 200 to 250km from Bangalore will easily takes 5 hrs driving and more than that will be a tired situation for members. So this also applies for other base camps too, I was more looking at the Sakleshpur,Hasan and other places.

Sakleshpur has many trekking places, water-falls and i think there are many home-stays and resorts to be in too. Not to forget the rains and Leeches(they spoil all the enthusiasm).

Let us see if we can make for Mudumalai Forest camp, it depends on Sethu, it's just 200kms from Bangalore and could be reached faster.
We people didn't think about ooty, What say?

Mudumalai Forest camp? Does this fall after Bandipur? The reason for my ask is, i have heard there will be a ban soon over these restricted areas.
Vish- Have you been there before?
Anyone has contacts from Forest department or WWF. This will help us a lot on the trip.

But Krish I feel always to be away from Restricted areas, because getting permission and being restricted again everywhere looks to be like kept in a prison. We should select a place which is sceneric having good amenities beside and free to move everywhere without any issues as ours is pleasure trip.

Any contacts in Forest department, and you will be free to touch Nature.

You know how our police/political contacts works.
If anyone from this Forum can help some contacts with these required department approvals, there is no other pleasure trip in the world than this.

Yes it comes after Bandipur and situated in the border of TN and KA.

The reason for my ask is, i have heard there will be a ban soon over these restricted areas.
Vish- Have you been there before?
Oh they are making a full time ban on this area now? Currently there is a ban from 6pm to 6am

Rightly said, we have to be free-birds.

Ok, then i have a contact in a private resort in Bandipur, But it comes close to 5k per person for a stay which is exorbitant.

To book the government lodges and cottages for Bandipur and Nagarhole, we have to book it from the department which is in Mysore.

Guys i am attaching a PDF which has different rates of cottages in different national parks, i feel Dubare Elephant camp is okay to consider.
View attachment Revised_Indian_tariff_till_jun_111.pdf
Dubare Elephant camp comes en-route Coorg, is a good elephant camp where those elephants are fed, Safari are present and you have the Cauvery river flowing which means you can spend your time playing in the water too.
Best thing is the river rafting, where my cousin went and had a gala over there, we do have so many places around Dubare too (Nisargadhama - Beautiful park with many unusual plants, deers, rabbits, well if this is a family trip; children would love this), Buddhist Monastery, Harangi Dam, Talacauvery and lots more.
If the cottage price doesn't feel right, then we have a option to stay at Mysore or Madikeri (not too far from these places) and visit these places.

Re: TAI Inter Region Meet in South – West India

Vish- Dubare Elephant camp according to me is a dry/hot place. Its more like an other small mysore. Too many visitors to much crowed.
Yes, with kids its good as they can see elephants but for our rides its just an another parking place.
I would say "NO" to it.
sakleshpur or Mudumalai or Bandipur are much better places to stay away from kinda city life.

Re: TAI Inter Region Meet in South – West India

My god. This is getting more and more HOT day by day, next to our STORME Thread. Great friends. And Vishwas you are throwing up bundles of destination man. Great.

As everyone wanted, it should be free from crowd and we should be able to enjoy the one day / one night stay.

If you ask me, we need not even keep driving [just my opinion] for the entire stay. We can have a plan like this

  • We should reach the destination for lunch.
  • Have a wonderful lunch together
  • Then we can go for local walking/treking kind till it gets dark
  • Then we can set up a camp fire kind of stuff and start talking/checking the rids, if possible drive different rides if the owners permits
  • some more cool drinks [he he] which myself, gurrala and some others also enjoy [;)] [Am sure it will be a decent one]
  • enjiy the dinner and if possible continue chit chating
  • Take a nice nap
  • Morning we can go around to nearest place for sight seeing
  • Do some photo shoots with cars and obivoulsly with TAIians
  • Back to destination have lunch
  • disburse to our own places.

Hope this is how I would like our meet should be. Pls put your suggestions also. If this is ok, am sure Mr. Vishwas and Mr.Krish [and others also welcomed to ] should be ready to throw 100s of destinations.
