Re: Suggest a New Smart Phone For Around 15K

so if you decide on the OS part as Windows then make sure it has good internal space (atleast 8 GB for future proof).. keeping in mind according to technology development in future GB's will get treated like KB and most apps may came in GB size
Future proof!!! [roll]

Phone used by RK was launched in 2010 and he would have bought that in second half of that year.

In Nov 2012, he started searching for a new smart phone and every body term that phone as vintage and outdated beyond any acceptable limits.

The way things are evolving, obsolescence will happen faster and in two years or even less, what ever phone picked up now will be grossly outdated and useless in terms of application support.

Indian,

Since you are stressing on the OS part, could you please elaborate on this and also explain how to choose an OS based on our requirements keeping in mind OS capabilities and limitations.
This will be of help to many of us.
+100, yes I would like to learn that how to choose OS[confused]
Guys, there is no easy answer for this question, you have to choose the right OS yourselves based on your likings and acceptance level. I feel you should use the system for atleast for a hour. People generally test camera when ever they buy smart phones[roll], infact they should be checking the apps they are going to be using on daily basis. Here is a small write up on OS, But it's just my opinion.

If you are a hard-core google fan, and use Google apps for your daily life and communication then definitely the android is the choice, same goes to WM8 and Microsoft services. Although cross platform apps are increasing but you can expect the OS manufacturer to support their baby first! You might want to consider if you want to have cross device data access? If so your current desktop system should dictate your OS choice for your smart phone. Generally same platform integrates way better, but only if you need the cross device access. Also it’s easy to use one OS than learning two different platforms and finding similar apps across platforms.

If you are looking for the OS updates very frequently WM and android might disappoint you! If you are holding a very basic hardware expect you to see no OS upgrades at all. But this is where rooting comes in to rescue but only if you are ready for experiment and do some research of your own.

Android being open source generally most of the apps tend to be free but it does not mean good always. Since its free the apps may not be supported well like IOS. Availability of the apps on IOS and android are almost similar, WM has to catch up. But I think all OS offer similar major productivity apps. Same applies for the games too; if you are gamer probably look for IOS. No doubt music lovers too get to IOS first.

Battery life, If you are advanced user and know how to config and manipulate apps then I think you will be satisfied with android. Since android is open source and almost everyone is creating fancy apps I would say the quality control of apps on android phone may not be very good, so you may expect people installing too many unwanted apps which are draining battery in the background with out notice. Not sure about WM8 generally windows tend to be processor hungry and battery intensive. IOS I feel you would get predictable battery drain with no surprises.

If you want to browse and do more editing kind of work on your phone (Photo, Video, office documents) then android may be better choice as you may choose larger screen sizes. But keeping the phone inside your pocket without the bulge is important then IOS (although small form factor phones available in android too but generally lower configuration).

IOS is tightly bound with the hardware so technically there should be very less or no incompatibility issues. Android and WM are run on independent hardware so there is a good chance that some OS feature may not perform well or may not run very smooth on low end devices. So I feel here you need to have more testing and better config hardware just to be sure.
Once on a particular OS generally you don’t jump to other, you will need to re-purchase the stuff you bought under previous OS. So I feel OS choice has to be done first then look at the devices. I was on windows mobile for nearly 10 years and finally moved to android and I had to do lot of changes to my data and services in order to move my content from Hotmail account to Gmail. So I cannot think of moving into another OS that easily.

Hope I have not added more confusion now [evil]

@Indian

Thank you for your nice effort buddy !! yes it is confusing, but it is useful confusing too !![lol]

Now coming to the content inline with this thread needs,

I am looking for a better processor leads to better browsing speads
I am not at all a application savy or games freak here
I look for a nice GPS support
I am comfortable with 4" I feel at the moment, where my present one has 3.2" display
I am comfortable with a good 5MP camera inplace of my present 3.2MP
I would like to have a considerable battery support for simple day to day applications like calls, browsing
I need to down load pdf,jpeg and ms documents sometime.

Now tell me which one makes more sense

A W8 lumia 620 or a S advanced phone for my needs. I don't mind my phone is bit old by its launch date, but look for the best configuration.
I am not having any love towards W8 or Android here and Nokia vs samsung too

<<I am looking for a better processor leads to better browsing speads>>
L620 supposed to have better browsing experience than the normal browsing experience on S Advance

<<I look for a nice GPS support>>
Google maps definitely has upper hand as its live. But Nokia drive is offline(you can use it where ever internet is not available) But on WM8 you can even have google maps, so again I would say L620 has advantage.

<<I am comfortable with 4" I feel at the moment, where my present one has 3.2" display>>
Screen size the S Advance wins. Since you are now using 3.2 you feel 3.8 is good but for web experience small screen size diff matters. Also the Amoled is any time better than LCD on L620, your browsing experience in day light would be better on S Advance. So S Advance has advantage here.

<<I am comfortable with a good 5MP camera inplace of my present 3.2MP>>
Camera experience both similar.

<<I would like to have a considerable battery support for simple day to day applications like calls, browsing I need to down load pdf,jpeg and ms documents sometime.>>
This is the tough call, but still I would say S Advance might have little edge over L620 as its slightly better pack. But Androids bit more power hungry not sure about the L620 though.

Processor wise the S Advance is better than L620.
If buying L620 I think you check it out personally and see what users are reporting about the performance and the battery life before you buy. For S advance its already tested, reviews must be pretty accurate.
S Advance you will get the discount, and L620 a premium[evil]

If it was me buying, I would go for S Advance as I feel I can tweek the phone and make it deliver more without sacrifyicing the battery. If you want out of the box optimization I think L620 is better. Remember L620 is low end WM where as S Advance is middle level device.

Gurrala, both phones are the best bets for you. I guess, all you need is to check out the L620 in stores and decide whether 620's screen is enough for you.

+1 edios, you should check out L620 personally, and browse couple of pages on it. Check email function. Try couple of pdf's if possible. Give importance to see the screen navigation.

No FM could be a major issue for travelling people, not sure about RK, I have FM on my phone last time I used was after buying my phone [frustration].
visran, what was the last line you wrote? <<Removing the back panel is testing>>

I guess he won't removing the back panel all the time. [lol]
Vijay, no, he is not okay with imported phones, or he himself would have got the Burst at 9K way before.

Re: Suggest a New Smart Phone For Around 15K

@Ranger

That's ok buddy, but I wanted something more from you as you are from same field !!

@Vijay

Yes, as edios said No for such imported stuff. My main criteria is reliability and brand image too, I am from that typical Indian middle class school, not ready for any risks either it is 5000/- mobile or 10L rupees car [:)]

@Edios,

No problem, I will learn how to remove that back panel, I love the challenging jobs[lol], at least that will be a feature for me as it will stop my daughter removing my phone back panel all the time.
