Re: Suggest a New Android Phone Around 15k

I think the JB is slated for LG Optimus L9, So if android is the choice I think its the best, even has NFC!
LG Optimus 4X HD, L9 and L7 Getting Jelly Bean Update On 1H 2013, Says LG Hong Kong - GSM Insider - Gadgets news from the insider
Correct.[:)]

+10000, I agree with you

WP8 : L 620 , I am already waiting since last 3 months and is it really justified to wait for a simple phone months together.

Android: If JB is the latest one , then I should go with a phone which has latest JB isn't it ?? LG L9 is a wonderful phone, but sightly above my budget and service support is poor.

But I am not really tempted to go with something just like that, I think I still have some patience left to continue the discussion before I buy that magical mobile phone

@Indian, I did not say WP or Android with that, I have just found in browsing and felt to check with you people
lol. Which phone are you mentioning in this line 'But I am not really tempted to go with something just like that, I think I still have some patience left to continue the discussion before I buy that magical mobile phone.'?

I don't think you'll have to go to the service center in 1-2 years unless you play disco dance with it. And falling maybe a factor, but it's not that bad like a Spice or Karbonn(Micromax better).
I suggest you to have a check at the LG service centers.
I repeat, L9 is the best one to go for after 620. You can ask Tenida for more info on this phone.

you are welcome my friend. but thanks for what ?
Lol, nothing, you said you agree with me. [lol]

Yeah, I will check this out directly in a store, but LG is not doing so good like earlier and people say that camera quality is not good

Oh, just checked it now. Quality is poor.
Check out HTC 8S, a bit over your budget at 18.5K. A very good alternative to L620. I guess you can now install Nokia Drive on it.

Re: Suggest a New Android Phone Around 15k

Why don't you get hold of a good phone that was high End phone a year ago ? You get the best out of both worlds.

I'm picking up a phone for my wife today or tomorrow and I've zeroed in on the HTC Desire HD or the Xperia Arc S - Both phones were high end premium one a year ago and I have no problem making that choice. Both fall in a price range of 15K max

More over all that gung ho about service centers - you really do not need them. The internet is a wealth of information. Spend some time on XDA forums and as long as you have support for the phone that you have Zeroed on, just go for it. No need to depend on a 'service guy' or their reputation

I'm going for the HTC Desire HD or the Xperia Arc S as there are Cyanogen Mod Roms available and both phones support newer Android versions. I dont have to worry about Camera quality or Sound too as both are premium.

Just my opinion - I don't go by the flavour of the season phones.

BTW - I have an LG Optimus P500 which I use (abuse) too along with my Note II and believe me it still packs a punch. Camera is rubbish but that's not priority #1

Make up your mind and don't wait for that perfect moment buddy. Its not like the next phone you buy will last you all your life :)

Zengetz, thank you very much for a very valuable post where I was getting lost behind something which is not even taken birth and the other one yet to prove[lol]. Ok I agree with you, if I go with your selection,

one is launched 3 years back and other one 2 years back. You meant to say they stand good even today ?? ok I will again mention my simple requirements at the end of this post in a very crisp manner and would like you to comment on them.

No way Nitin, I am already frustrated with my wait long wait and believe me I am neither tagged to Windows phone nor Android so much. Whichever is best suitable at the moment I will go with that and with a low budget is my main criteria[:)]

Gurrala, this is the best of the lot after 620, NEW HTC Sensation Z710E, ICS 4.0, 4.3" LCD, 1.2 GHz DC CPU, 768MB RAM, 8 MP | eBay
If you are interested, call him and ask for bargain. Again I say, this is the best one after 620
You may say that its discontinued(check it please), but if you want your money to be spend on the better one, go for this.
Thank you for this suggestion friend, I will check it out too, Now I post my requirements in a crisp manner and I am open for any OS, but brand should be a reputed one like samsung, nokia, lg, htc, sony etc.,

1. Good processor
2. Good battery back up
3. Good screen size above 3.7
4. Good looks
5. Easy navigation
6. Good browsing speed
7. compatible to download simple docs like pdf, jpeg, word, excel
8. easy with keys on screen to post something or reply
9. Good resolution camera with flash, front cam not required
10. single sim
11. Good voice assisted GPS
12. no fancy applications required, no games too
13. Reliable and strong enough if by chance it falls from my hand
14. Budget starts from 10k and max 15k. If I get something for less I am more happy. As I do not believe in spending too much on these gadgets where we find new models always with more features.
15. Should not lag, have good amount of internal memory and should allow me to load a good external memory card

Hope I am not asking the things from moon[lol]

Lets be practical - phones are just Hardware. You may have a Sony Laptop and I may have a Samsung. Underneath the hood both run Windows. As long as you have the right hardware - in your or my case a 1Ghz processor is a lot to ask for especially on a mobile device.

Things to keep in mind are

1. Is phone that you finally choose supported on XDA forums?
2. Does it have custom roms that can help you get rid of bloatware that come with OEM software piggybacking on Android (In a way I'm recommending Android. Period)
3. Does it have enough RAM ? 512-1 GB is good enough.
4. Is the touch interface/experience responsive ?
5. Can you play Angry birds ? :)

Both run Android so nothing to debate or crib about screen logo load times etc.

Why I would go for HTC Desire HD ?
- Gorilla Glass
- Dolby Sound
- HTC Sense

Why Xperia Arc S ?
- Sound Quality
- Sex appeal
- Resolution
- Camera capabilities

1. Good processor
2. Good battery back up
3. Good screen size above 3.7
4. Good looks
5. Easy navigation

Only thing that points to the "moon" is the battery expectations. Dude! A computer is packed into the size of your palm so dont expect a lot like the legacy phones. Can you get a budget fuel efficiency from a sports car ?

I would be happy if my phone battery survives the whole day with heavy usage. My phones are on 3G connected all the time and on WiFi at home or office. You can get more juice by controlling these depending on your preferences . Things like task killers, screen time out, Internet/Wifi policy etc., go a long way in optimizing your battery's efficiency.

Bottom line : Keep your expectations to bare minimum and you will be mighty pleased.

Re: Suggest a New Android Phone Around 15k

Anything between the experia arc and HTC sense.

There are somethings you could do to improve the battery backup.

Turn on GPS, wifi only when needed.
Reduce screen brightness to about medium, this would reduce strain on eyes and increase battery power.
Increase the brightness only when needed.

Carry extra battery backup like power bank.
They cost about 900 bucks and can be plugged in when travelling when there are no charging points.

Avoid unnecessary gaming. Or video playback.

Both of them consume processing power both from CPu and GPU and in turn increase the battery consumption.

Regarding voice navigation use Sygic navigation for offline voice navigation or googles maps for online navigation.
Google maps though are more accurate and get a fix relatively quicker for its Assisted GPS.
This when compared to offline navigation , though online versions are equally effective.

Great tips on extending battery life and I concur with each of your points.

Absolutely spot on! Google Maps' Voice Guided navigation and Live traffic updates are really useful and you cant thank Google enough for this. Live traffic updates show up only in a few cities for now (Hyderabad being one of them). I check congestion and only then leave office :)
