Few people - when they have to reverse the car after starting, they will engage the first gear, move forward slightly, and then engage the reverse gear to move backward. (Not sure if there is any scientific reason for this related to Engine and transmission). This is more common among bus drivers.

I also do this. This habit I got from my father.
I think it may be due to lubricating the gear box [confused].

^^ haha yeah i have one of my friend who does this. He says he wants to move forward first. Its something like the first steps should always be front
This Happens on my Hyundai i10 at times. The Reverse gear refuses to engage Smoothly (or requires more force than usual). So rather than Bullying it in, I Move forward a bit and Reverse goes smooth[:)]

However It never happens on my XUV 500, Fortuner, Safari etc. No Qualms about Blind belief either.

I ponder it is a sentiment to move your vehicle forward initially and similarly my father never used black ink pen and we used to have a heated argument when I used to question him on Black dress when he would take up Swamy Ayyappa Mala for 40 days....

Saying "sorry" to the car after crashing it into that damned pothole or after scraping its underbelly on a speedbreaker.
A friend of mine who got his car underbelly scratched as he hit the speed breaker, got so scared when he saw the scratches, he took it to a dealer and got the underchassis coating done for entire chassis.

It's nothing but just one of our inherited superstitious beliefs. Check out the discussion on the same and more such @ http://www.theautomotiveindia.com/f...itious-beliefs-people-roads-3.html#post113598

Mostly I was my car inside the parking (which is cement flooring). Some time I might wash the car outside of parking area, mostly on road side (Generally where you have lot of sand). So after washing the entire area will be wet. Assume if you are going out after washing (Not immediately) when you get into car it gets dirty easily since it is on wet sand.

To avoid this, once I finish the washing, I remove my sandals, get into the car move it the place which is not wet, so that when I get into car after some time insides wont get dirty.

Yes, its simple sentiments. Even my father does this (somehow I do not have this habit).

I as soon as sat in the driver seat or as soon as start the engine before changing the gear to first gear I always pray to the Ganesh in my dash that everything should go smooth. Another sentimental thing most of us do.

Even I dont like black. Even though I love all black cars when ever I see it, but if you ask me to get a black car, I would n't.
