Re: Sporty Yet Elegant: My Candy White Volkswagen Polo TDI

We have so many Polo owners on TAI and majority of them are having a trouble free experience with their rides. [clap]
By 'majority', you mean some members are facing issues? Could you please list down so that it will be helpful for fellow members...thnx.

Re: Sporty Yet Elegant: My Candy White Volkswagen Polo TDI

From what I know, only one member is facing a minor trouble with his Polo, that is Sanke1. You may go through his ownership thread too where he has mentioned about mild juddering of the car at low speeds in initial two gears. Rest I am sure even he is happy with the overall ownership except for that issue. There are many more members like ToughGuy,Rightnow,Jihu123,Vamsuduk,VipinLJ and few others including myself with the Polo and some of them have driven over 35k kms without any niggles or break-downs. So I am sure Polo is turning out to be one of the more reliable and niggle-free cars from the VW stable.

A for myself, I am yet to find even a smallest niggle or any weird noise in my car with over 15 months of ownership and driving close to 14k kms. I haven't opened the car's bonnet myself even once all this time to check for any oils or anything. Not saying that I am very proud about that, but I really never felt the need to do so as everything is working as it should be and everything was checked in the first service too. Heck I am even contemplating to take this car to Leh- Ladakh in August end if in-case we don't get the delivery in time of the Ford Ecosport that my father has booked. That should tell you about the immense confidence I have in the Polo.

Re: Sporty Yet Elegant: My Candy White Volkswagen Polo TDI

Guys need urgent help. I have a friend of mine who has recently got a Polo Highline a week back and he is changing his stock RCD320 Head unit to a touch screen after market one. Now he is ready to sell the stock one to me at a very nominal price. I am in a fix as to will I be able to install this in my Polo as I was earlier told that RCD310 and RCD320 come with different set of connectors and it would be difficult to fit them in Pre-August 2012 manufactured Polo's. Any advice would be helpful? Should I buy it from him or will it be too much of a trouble installing it and changing it from my current RCD210 which by the way doesn't have USB port, Aux-In or Memory card slot?

As far as I know, RCD310 cannot be fit directly in place of RCD210 which was in earlier batch polo. Not sure about the new RCD320!!
The workshop guys should be able to do the job I guess.

I guess same is the case with RCD320 also. It will need some re-arrangements. Should I ask the VW service center guys about this or should I just get it installed from the local auto shops who expertise in ICE's and Audio set-ups?

There is a map my India touchscreen unit available at VW dealers which can fit into all polo/vento models. If this unit can be fit in any model it means that the new and old polo models do not have any significant difference in the panel, may be just a coupler is required which should be available with dealers/workshops. This is why I said that they might be able to do the job.

I guess same coupler should be available at local accessories shops too.

Thanks a lot Rightnow. Will ask the VW workshop guys tomorrow and if indeed there is not much of a hassle in installing it, will go ahead and get the RCD320 .

Re: Sporty Yet Elegant: My Candy White Volkswagen Polo TDI

I've finally bought the RCD320 head unit for my Polo. Will be getting it in my hands on 28th July as its being transported from Pune by my friend from whom I got it. Here is the pic of the unit

Now thinking what to do about my current RCD210 unit. Maybe will sell it to a local dealer here or will put up on sale online. But that will be after getting the new one fitted in the car.

Had a Punctured tyre today. Rear left one this time. Would be the second puncture for my Polo. There was a huge nail which caused it so can't really cry about it.

Flat tyre - Never a pretty site

Hey GM88

Congrats on the RCD320. You should be able to make it work in your Polo. If the A.S.S guys can't do it, take it to a good installer outside and ask him to get it done. It is not an impossible job at all.

Regards,
Vipin

PS. Yes. I have an almost niggle free ownership with my Polo. No engine problems at all. The problems I've had are the rear drum brakes getting jammed (in the first week of ownership) and the rear LHS power window switch not working (that is not the car's fault. It is because unauthorised people worked on my car. I hope no one from the VW A.S.S people are reading this).

Thanks Vipin. I will be doing that only. I am sure its not that big a deal fixing an updated stock head unit into a car which now comes with it from the factory itself. I haven't contacted the VW workshop people as yet for this. Waiting for the unit to arrive first.

Regarding niggles, well that jamming issue is a one off case and I would say it must have been resolved in a day or two and would have never popped up again and for the power window switch you said it must have been fiddled around by the people at the workshop. So really nothing that serious or troublesome which hinders the driving experience everyday in my view or holds against the reliability of the vehicle.

The jamming issue was a one off case for me. Thankfully, it never happened again. But the jamming issue was a common one. I have read so many threads in various forums where Polo owners have reported it. I hope it has been completely eradicated in the latest batch of cars, whatever the reason was.

Oh ok. I guess then I am unaware about this. Good to know that it never recurred in your car again.

Re: Sporty Yet Elegant: My Candy White Volkswagen Polo TDI

I got the RCD 320 fitted in my car this morning. Though it is working all fine, the problem is that the background Red color in all the buttons is not showing up. The guy from whom I got it done, tried his level best from all possible connections but to no luck. Poor guy didn't take any cash from me either for the installation and good half an hour of trying to get the background lights to work somehow. Went to VW Chandigarh workshop to see if they could be of any sorts of help. The executive there had a look and said we'll have to open the whole thing and its a long procedure and asked if he could get me an appointment scheduled for tomorrow for the same. Waiting for tomorrow now.

I have a query, is it that tough to make this OHU work on the previous year model of the same car? I mean people do end up getting RCD510 and all also fitted in the Polo and they work like a charm. What could be the possible reason for the background lights not glowing while everything else happens to be working all fine. Tried each and every fuse and plug, but to no success.

Here are a few pics I had taken when the new RCD 320 was being installed.

Here you go Vipin. All the red backdrop lights on the various button of the unit are not working.

Where as it should look like this

I had taken the car to VW wokshop today, even they could not do anything and said that this unit has complete different set of connectors and bla bla. Very incompetent I must say from them. Had put up the same issue on VW Polo India facebook page and found someone who got it fitted from BU Bhandari VW workshop in Pune. Even he initially faced this similar problem. They apparently changed a few sockets for him and now the unit is working absolutely fine for him.

Would love to hear from the ICE tech gurus on TAI, if I should go ahead and get these so called sockets changed from local shops. But even they seem to be having no clue on this.[frustration]
