Re: Sporty Yet Elegant: My Candy White Volkswagen Polo TDI

Today my car had a sweet little escape. Actually would say all the cars standing there did. It was a blistering 42 degrees in the afternoon when I came back home and I parked my car on my usual parking spot under a shade of a tree. Its a barren plot next to my house with 2-3 big trees there. My neighbour's Hyundai i20 and a Nissan Sunny were already standing there.

Around 4, the weather suddenly changed here and it started pouring heavily with strong winds. Though I was completely unaware of it sitting inside my room with all doors locked and AC on full blast. By the time I got out of the house, saw one of the trees had fallen right across that plot where the cars were parked. But fortunately it missed all three cars. Goodness me!! Could have fallen anywhere on that patch and all cars were in the tree's vicinity. Lucky escape! Already had registered a complaint with the Chandigarh Administration to cut these trees like 8 months back as they can fall at any time. But still no response. [frustration]

Oh. You were really lucky!
If they cut the trees, then where will you keep your car under 42 degree celsius? [:)]

Haha good one jihu123. Its like a two-edged sword. But I'll be rather happy parking it out in the sun than having a tree falling on my car. There is ample of greenery around here and there are very stringent laws against cutting of trees, so I guess I'll have to live with them and keep praying thay they don't fall on my car.[:)]

Lucy escape for your car, here in Delhi too my FIL Wagon-R has narrow escape due to falling tree a week back. Try to keep your car away from trees, boundary walls during bad weather especially monsoons.

Re: Sporty Yet Elegant: My Candy White Volkswagen Polo TDI

One of my uncle has bough a plot for a farm house in the outskirts of Chandigarh on the foothills of Shivalik. Though it is not connected by the main road and you have to do a good 3-4kms offroading to reach the place from the main road. Yesterday I and my cousins and a few friends went out there in the evening as the weather was pretty good as it had been raining since morning. We were 14 of us in 3 cars, my Polo, my cousin's Punto and Swift. As soon as we turned from the main road, it seemed to be a pretty bad idea to have gone there in these cars. Due to the rains, the track was all slushy and there were huge craters and bumps. Somehow we managed to maneuver and reached without scraping atleast not my Polo, don't know about the other two. Though I could feel some huge plants rubbing past the underbelly. But overall, pretty happy with the increased ground clearance of the car. Had an amazing time and drive, though couldn't click pics as it was raining heavily. On the flip side of all this fun drive, my car is filled with dirt on the inside. Looks as if somebody played Mud holi inside the car.[embarass] I am scared to even look at the inside of the car as of now,its that bad.
Beige fabric seat covers and carpet mats in the rain are absolute nightmare. And the monsoons are yet to arrive properly here.[roll] Next upgrade has to be to get a set of seat covers which do not get dirty so easily or can be cleaned easily. I am not too keen to get leather ones as I am more comfortable with the fabric ones ones but if left with no choice I might have to go for them only.

Good to know that your polo didn't scrape, [thumbsup]
At times, I feel I should have opted for the fabric seat covers in my polo especially during summer! The leather seat cover apart from its looks n fit feels a bit uncomfortable too at times.

Do you have genuine leather or the artificial leather?

No I haven't put any extra fabric seat covers. Using the stock fabric upholstery as of now as I think it looks pretty neat. Though maintaining it is a real task. Will be taking my car for interior dry cleaning on wednesday as along with the upholstery even the roof also needs to be cleaned as there are a few stain marks along the rear roof handles.

Yes leather seats do feel a little uncomfortable specially during the summer months as they become a little sticky with all the sweat from your clothes. Although even I am planning to get leather ones only for my car as fabric ones would not solve any purpose as they will also get soiled in no time like these stock ones specially in the rains.

One thing is still stopping me from going ahead with the leather seat covers is that I take my dogs out for a ride over the weekends or for their general hospital check-up visits and their paw nails might get stuck and tear the leather. Can anyone advice on this or am I just over-thinking about it.

They both have their own pros and cons, If you were using the fabric one then you surely want to change that too. I am saying this based on my experience with both of them.

my dad's pocket ain't that long enough to put genuine leather.

@GM88 - as toughguy said, both have pros & cons. If you prefer comfort, then go for fabric or else leather will do!

With art leather seat, back gets wet during long drives. But its easy to maintain than the fabric ones. I plan to use my stock seat till it gets dirty. Then would love to have the genuine leather seat covers from Karlsson bangalore. But they are expensive [roll]
Btw guys, I took delivery of my Polo TDI HL last week. I will start my ownership thread soon.

Yes I guess it comes with both its pros and cons. Any how, I will be going in for a set of art leather seat covers for now.

Congrats Jobs on your new Polo and same pinch for getting it in Candy white shade. Yes you could use the fabric ones for sometime, though monsoons are already here and it will be quite a task keeping them clean. Would love to hear on your inputs about the car's performance and see a few pics of your new ride too. Any accessories or mods planned for your Polo?
