the car can do a 40 on 5th gear comfortably. But i found out keeping the revs above 2000, and shifting gears at 3000 rpms give me better rpms, i think its cause the car stays in the power band that way.
i do let go the throttle it cuts of fuel supply that way.

aristo the tips are good, but shifting to a higher gear faster and if the speeds are low and you lug the engine you will use more petrol while shortening the life of the engine as well as clutch plates as bazooka stated the best here would be to find the engines power band and keep it in that band. On my car i found below 1500rpms the car takes time to gain speed, 1800rpm+ gains better, i shift normally between 2800-3000 depending on traffic i modify sometimes at 2000 i shift in traffic and sometimes at 4500 on highways i like giving the engine constant variance of the rpm band.
when the engine is above 2500 rpm i see more fe on the mid. Like I'm cruising at 60 the rpm is somewhere near 2000 mid shows me 11.6 km/l now I'm at 100 roads are allowing me and traffic is less i stay at 100 for a while mid goes to 13 km/l when i see a car going in front of me getting closer i release throttle when coming to speed humps or signals i do the same.
you won't damage your clutch by decelerating in gears when the rpms go below 1000 downshift. or else fuel supply will continue to keep the engine above a set rpm.

Thanks for the explanation Nick. I would try this when I take the car to the highway. Planning for a highway trip the coming weekend. Within city, I hardly get a chance to go in 5th or for that matter 4th gear. However I think, within the city, anything around 10kmpl mark is good for this car.

when i drive in city i always try to get out of 2nd gear quicker, i press the clutch only when the engine will stall, thats how my dad thought me took lots of effort to learn that, dad says the more less you use the clutch the more life you give it.
My mid shows me 10.6 in city, i avoid lead footing in city, i simply don't trust other drivers lane discipline. But i used to follow this thing of go gentle in traffic and the mid would show me 7km/l prior to oil change.

Anyways the ac temperature setting doesn't make a difference on the fe, turning the ac of gives very marginal power its hard to notice, and hard to know whether the engine is on.

my last two tankfuls were from indian oil xtrapremium my current tank is bpcl regular speed. Adding the stats on my thread in a while.

Came back from a long trip during the weekend.

Total distance - 767 km
Total fuel used - approximately 52 litres
Average mileage - around 15 kmpl
Fuel Used - HP regular.

around 680 km in National Highway (4 lanes) the remaining in State Highways.

Overall the drive was pretty good. Need to emphasize the fact that braking was top notch. Weather was awesome with slight drizzles. Will upload pictures later.

the rains are pretty weird out here, and lots of muck on the roads i drive through, it all makes its way to the ac condenser coil forcing me to hose it down every 2 weeks or the cooling drops.
The wipers as well seem to be more then half way past their life.

I heard my friend say that if we use the wipers to clean the windshield (when windshield is dry and after spraying windshield liquid), the wipers lose their life soon. Is that true?

i think its true as i use the windshield washer daily and if you notice on the first sweep the wipers run dry since the aim is just above the wiper and not on the entire windscreen, what i do is quickly press and depress the stalk without letting the wipers to sweep so water collects and then it can sweep.
