The importer (Oil company like HP, IOC etc) has to pay C&F charges + Crude Insurance charges + Import charges + Port Dues + Ocean Loss + Custom Duty. Then there is Refinery Transfer price, Inland freight (through trains and gasoline tankers), marketing expenses. On top of all this, Govt adds Excise and VAT...[sleep]

For anyone Interested, here is the data which IOC has put out for price movements since 1 April 2016, all for Retail prices Chennai.
IOC Diesel Price Chennai1.jpg

IOC Petrol Price Chennai1.jpg

It seems the price off Petrol and Diesel seems to have a separate market, the overall trend is in line with that of crude movements but seems to vary individually.

Until now people posted on this thread by how much the price changed for Petrol & Diesel starting midnight. From this midnight we can probably say the money itself has changed [;)] but you can use old money for fuel till Nov 11 it appears.

Fuel prices hiked
Petrol up by ₹1.29 and Diesel by ₹0.97 plus state taxes.

Petrol in Delhi will cost Rs 70.60 per litre from midnight tonight as against Rs 68.94 currently, while a litre of diesel will cost Rs 57.82 compared to Rs 56.68 at present. The increase in rates announced by oil firms is excluding state levies and the actual hike will be higher.

Difference between petrol diesel again increasing. Govt seems to tax the less polluting vehicle more.

Buddies,

Update

NEW DELHI: Come May 1, petrol and diesel prices will change every day in sync with international rates, much like what happens in most advanced markets.

A pilot for daily revision of petrol and diesel price will be first implemented in Puducherry, Vizag in Andhra Pradesh, Udaipur in Rajasthan, Jamshedpur in Jharkhand and Chandigarh

So, oil cos can jack up prices suddenly. And by the time there is a hue & cry and Goverment intervenes, they will have had a windfall of several crores. Dont think the government should do this

I don't know how relevant the following is (mods please delete if you feel this is OT, but I could not find another relevant thread) but I came across this in Google News yesterday : Solar-powered device harvest water from dry air : PTI feed, News - India Today

With fossil fuels depleting exponentially & almost all potable water desalination plants being heavily dependent on conventional energy resources, I felt that any method of desalination using renewable energy resources should be of interest to all of us.
I remember reading many years ago in a WHO future projection, that the next World War could very well be over potable water! Alarmist as this may sound, it underlines the seminal role potable water plays in human affairs world wide.
