Re: Repeated case of zero NCAP crash rating of indian cars

I am pretty sure the Tata India sold models will replicate their export models in terms of structure, because I simply cant imagine TML engineers taking the effort[lol] to change the specs for that (traditionally speaking).

Re: Repeated case of zero NCAP crash rating of indian cars

All this discussion will continue forever unless and until the Government brings out a comprehensive regulatory requirement requiring all automobiles to adhere to certain safety norms (not the current useless ones). If it means that the current cars on the streets are unfit, the Govt should also introduce a timeline for phaseout and bring in a scrapping incentive to buy new ones. It is a carrot and stick approach, but with more sticks than carrots. After all, "laaton ke bhoot baaton se nahi maante" !
And no one will dare approach the judiciary- automobile industry is in their cross hairs right now. Its just that the Govt has to break its cosy alliances with the OEMs to do this. The worst would be a judicial intervention to impose this aka diesel ban in NCR. Then we will be subject to perhaps a more draconian ruling. It is in the best interest of everyone that the Govt acts NOW with a mixture of regulations and incentives.

Surprised by Scorpio 0 rating but IIRC even Volkswagen Polo (non - airbag) version had failed the GNCAP test and received ZERO (on occupant protection) and then they provided the airbag version.

Mahindra can possibly do the same and provide an airbag version like VW did to pass the test.

I also remember that only Ford Figo without airbag had passed the test.

Scorpio is structural unstable and polo wasn't, see the recent scorpio crash test video and judge yourself:

Right. @ hemantp A structurally weak car doesn't beneifit from an airbag ! Kwid airbag version too got zero rating. Manufacturers providing airbags in higher version of structurally weak cars is just a gimmick. I was surprised to find celerio didn't get even 2 star in child safety - it is worse than Kwid, which atleast got 2 star in child safety.

^^Additionally the volumes that the Tata cars sell in; they aren't large enough to make it financially feasable to run 2 different structures for same vehicle.
As I keep following TML closely they do manufacture different cars for export but it varies only in the level of equipment and the interior trim. But that's only for the base variant the top models are exactly the same as export models.

In a country where some manufacturers like MSIL do provide an 'O' pack (which has the Airbag & or ABS)only on paper ie the Price List, but will never have stock of the same, and give any amount of excuses, so that you buy the non-option pack. Thank god they don't suggest mirch nimboo lagao on the bumper & you are good to go[clap]

I will be most curious to know what will happen in 2017 when this NCAP does become a reality in India.

Oh God, its scary. Thank God i purchased a ford fiesta. I hope it has solid built:D
The Ford Figo has failed in earlier test that were conducted by GNCAP. So lets hope Ford has made the fiesta solid.[:)]

It seems every other manufacturer is failing the Global NCAP test except for Toyota. I guess Toyota cars fall in 4 to 5 star category.

So are they just conducting crash tests for vehicles from Developing nations? Do they have crash test results for cars in developed nation? I did not find it on their website.

The results are sad but expected. Come on, we all knew that the auto manufacturers turn a blind's eye to safety when it comes to cars for the Indian market. They tend to highlight things like touch screen systems, projector headlamps, drls, automatic wipers and all sorts of fancy things, but the safety of the passengers are lost somewhere below all these. And we fall for these. We decide to buy higher model than what we want to, just to get some of these goodies but then we don't want to go for the optional package of the same model which gives us better security. Yes these things are indeed exciting and we would love to have them in our cars, but they should never come at the expense of safety.

It's time the government brings in more stringent rules related to car safety. Manufacturers should also take the step ahead in this field, it's high time they realize that the security of their customers cannot be compromised at any cost.

I have seen Scorpio crashed on safari on the way to chennai. Safari no major damage happened, bumper bit hood work . But Scorpio beyond repair it crashed till B pillar. Driver of Scorpio died on the spot, front passenger serious. Since the we stopped thinking of Scorpio in list.

Scary part of the result is about Scorpio.

Country's so called proud SUV/XUV/KUV (next might be NoUV) not taking care of structural rigidity is a shocking truth.

So, will these NCAP guys be testing more Indian cars in future ?

I would love to see result for Indian Baleno/Vitara Brezza/Innova without Airbags.
