"Maruti Needs To Talk To Partner Suzuki To Understand What NCAPs Are Striving To Do," Says Global NCAP President

Global NCAP President and CEO, David Ward has sharply criticised Maruti Suzuki India Limited's (MSIL) response to the latest safety ratings for Indian cars. The Global NCAP president said that maybe Maruti, the Indian automaker, should speak to Suzuki, its Japanese partner, to understand what the New Car Assessment Programs (NCAPs) are striving to do globally. Ward was responding to MSIL's official statement on Global NCAP's crash test results for the latest round of made-in-India cars. Under the latest round, the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso scored 0 stars, while the Hyundai Grand i10 and Kia Seltos scored 2 and 3 stars respectively.

There is no point whinning about Suzuki and Hyundai. They are not indian. They are here to make money. If they get with ease why bother about making more investment. People should reject them, but would that ever happen? No coz indian junta don't care about safety. Good to know that there are couple of mass market car makers who do care about safety and give small niche buyer segment option for getting safe cars.
Well I believe the point you are making is why cant we stop buying these cars and choose cars from manufacturers like Tata, Mahindra and others with focus on safety.
I dont think that is going to happen as "swiftly" as we want in a maturing market like India. With the danger of repeating myself, car buying in India is a multistep complicated affair with different family members having varied priorities, touchscreen included[lol].
In the meantime the nonsafe cars
gets sold in mind-boggling numbers.
I have experience with two MS cars, the second newer one was scary, flexible bonnet, pencil thin shockabsorbers, pencil thin tyres, shaking in crosswinds, yet it was reliable to a fault. Great engine too.
Tata on the other hand needs to improve its service especially the interaction with staff and owners.
They have got the safest, most exquisite looking cars with great dynamics. Its the service that needs to catch up.
Quoting Global NCAP President and CEO, David Ward on Maruti's comment,
"However, what companies like Maruti Suzuki are doing is the bare minimum to meet the safety requirements.

Suzuki would never ever dare say something like that about the Japanese NCAP."

Happy new year to all TAI members. [drive]
On a day when Nissan Magnite has scored a respectable 4 starts in the ASEAN ncap, here is another interesting bit of news , from today the U.K has made it mandatory for all public sector vehicles to be sold there to meet the minimum requirement of 5 star euro Ncap. Praise worthy move by U.K Govt. indeed.

Source : David Ward on Twitter: "From today UK Govt Buying Standard requires all new cars to be ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ @EuroNCAP. Long overdue but very welcome safety commitment & example for local govt & business to follow. Compliance with EU vehicle emission & fuel economy standards & fleet electrification also included. https://t.co/XjNxD3jhDR" / Twitter

Hope our Indian government also makes a minimum requirement of atleast equivalent of three stars equivalent of global ncap mandatory in India from say 2023 or so , so that manufacturers have enough time to redesign their products. I am sure this will go a long way in bringing down road fatalities which currently stands at 1,51,000 deaths a year in India.
