Renault Kwid details listed

Renault will soon be launching the Kwid hatchback in India.

This new entry-level hatchback will be exported to multiple international markets and the Chennai plant will act as a global export hub. Renault claims that the Kwid will be a game changer in the segment. Renault targets to achieve 5% market share with the introduction of the Kwid in India.

The Kwid will measure 3,679mm x 1,579mm x 1,471mm (LxWxH) and have a wheelbase of 2,422mm. This entry-level hatchback will gets a healthy ground clearance of 180mm. For those who like to carry that little bit extra, the Kwid gets 300 litres boot space with rear seats up & 1,115 litres boot space with rear seats folded.

Inside the Kwid will get best-in-class knee room of 116mm, interior storage of 24.25 litres, front shoulder room of 1,250mm, & rear shoulder room of 1,231mm.
The Kwid is based on the new CMF-A platform which will spawn cars within 3.4 – 4 metres in length.

Powering the Kwid will be a 799cc, 3-cylinder petrol motor producing 54 PS & 72 Nm with a claimed fuel efficiency of 25.17 kmpl. Engine will be matched to a 5-speed manual gearbox. AMT will be introduced later. Power to weight ratio is rated at 85 PS to a tonne since the car has a very light kerb weight of 660 kg.

7″ touchscreen infotainment with bluetooth & navigation on the inside will be an unmatched feature.

The Kwid will come with 6 accessory packs: Luxury Pack, Intense Chrome, Essential Pack, Basic Pack, Outdoor Pack, Smart Chrome and get 5 body colours – Red, white, grey, silver, bronze.

Renault will offer 2 years / 50,000 km warranty as standard on the Kwid.

Pricing will be in the range of Rs. 3 – 4 lakh (ex-showroom)

More than 80% of the Kwid was developed by Indians & it boats 98% localisation.

Buddy, I shared official pics only from Renault but me not a part of the media drive. Vibhor and team are surely there and would give us the elaborate insights on KWID[:)]. Meanwhile, I was informed by Renault dealer in morning that KWID is expected to launch in coming week.

It looks more like a smartish Alto. I am actually not fully convinced of the potential in the A segment. While that is still an important market segment, all the "aspirational" products and brands are in the B/C segments. One can argue that Renault is bringing B-class space to A-class segment, but that argument will be lost in the category of buyers we are looking at. The monthly sales figures of B segment cars is much more than A segment- that itself is a pointer. Consequently, Renault should have priced it between 3.5 to 5 lac and brought in a better engine and safety features like ABS/dual airbags.

One from the top two sales segment is A segment and to be a mass player you need product in starting categories and I believe that Renault got it absolutely right. And once you got that value then the customers who will graduate from A segment to B or any upper segment will stick to same brand if they are happy with their first car. Upselling is quite easy with an existing happy customer.

This car should succeed. Major competitor for Hyundai Eon and Alto 800. It definately looks good as compared to Alto 800 whether its interiors or exteriors. Renault have to price it well and take care of after sale services to compete with Hyundai Eon.

Still no safety features insight.

Agreed, it is a city commuter, but time has come that ABS and Airbags become standard, and not optional or premium options.

Anyways, the only thing which they need to tackle is the RASS, to compete with MASS and HASS.

This cute little car (super mini SUV) is going to be a blockbuster in metros. But Alto killer?? No. Expect a realistic figure of 5K per month, which should b more than enough for Renault. Had this been a Hyundai or a Honda, you might have thought of the Alto killer tag.

23rd is the date when this K(w)id will be launched, and the prices will be revealed, the reviews are +ive, so lets wait & watch.

So, basic two models eighter AC & Power steering is not there. So most of the people only prefer the RxL & RxT. So the on road price would be nearer 4.5 and 5L. Hence I don't think it will give competition to existing ALTO and Eon.
