14L for the top end can't really be called as VFM,as Raja has mentioned that this is neither Big nor Comfortable compared the other 2 big daddies (scorpio,safari).
any info on 4x4?

I haven't checked out the Duster yet but here are my two cents.

Scenario 1: For someone willing to spend Rs. 7-14 lakhs on a car, bodystyle be damned, the thinking behind his purchase would probably be "hmm.I have a pretty comfortable budget and too many cars at my disposal. Okay, the Duster, (checks it inside out, takes a test drive), hmm.petrol doesn't make any sense and neither is it loaded. Diesel, only 85bhp available under 10 lakhs. Base diesel price almost the same as base diesels of Safari and Scorpio. But Safari and Scorpio are both more powerful than this. Safari is an old model and people say that its unreliable. This Duster thingy should be more reliable at least. Scorpio makes sense but base version has pathetic interiors and zero equipment. What about after sales? Top version of Duster? Only 110 BHP? Naah.XUV looks BIG and has more power and equipment. And what is that new SUV being endorsed by Amitabh Bachchan umm.Fax Two.no no Force One. Aha! So WHATTODO? Uff.too confusing man. Let me go for a proper sedan which will give me much more equipment and power for less thanRs. 10 lakhs"

So he moves out and buys a diesel sedan (and hopefully lives happily thereafter). Renault SA scratches his head as to why he left all of a sudden.

Scenario 2: For someone willing to spend Rs. 7-14 lakhs on a SUV, the thinking behind his purchase would probably be like this: "Shall I go for the base models or the mid models or the top end model? Umm.petrol NAH. So this is the base diesel Duster. Okay, looks pretty bare basic from the outside. What else can I get at this price. Safari LX and Scorpio LX. They would probably be cheaper to service as well. Oh! I almost forgot, they are 140 bhp machines. (To the SA) how much bhp in this one? WHAT! Only 85??!! Okayyyyy 20 kmpl haan. Hmm.maybe I should go for the base model then, but let me check out the Safari and Scorpio first. And what about the top model? 14 lakhs!!!!??? On-road???!!! Wow. (To the SA) take this Cadbury Dairy Milk and send it to Renault HQ with my message 'All the best'. Now what about the mid versions? 85 Bhp again. Hmm.110 bhp for 11 lakhs but isn't 110 bhp still less than 140 bhp? So let me check out the Safari/Scorpio again while you can despatch that Cadbury to Renault HQ.

Walks out of the showroom. May or may not comes back again to make a booking for the Duster RxE while the SA scratches his head as to what happened.

And after the SA reaches homes and has his dinner and is lying on his bed trying to sleep, he suddenly has his Eureka moment and mumbles " Yes, I got it. Renault should have priced each version at least a lakh lesser!!"

The next day, he promptly couriers the Cadbury to Renault HQ.

read it on firstpost nissan too is planning a compact SUV, so in all probability the nissan duster should be priced well

Renault Duster was one of the Car which was in my radar for long time. It has been in talks from a very long time. I personally feel it is slightly over priced for its offerings and the segment in which it is placed.

Also the Mileage which they are promising is really a big question for the SUV segments. Waiting to see more reviews on it. Also will try to have TD over this weekend.

Sam, I much say you have a great sense of humor and writing skills. This exactly any Indian has in his mind when looking at an SUV. A perfect 10/10.

Renault Duster !! A very complicated package.

As a company Renault still it needs to prove in India about the product reliability and when we look at this SUV, it looks to me overpriced and also looks like it is designed in 3 parts instead of single SUV.

It is very difficult to change the Indian buying mindset, because in India everybody wants a SUV with all minimum features and expects it below 10 Lakhs with good FE. This proportion is not possible and correct.

When some body want an SUV, then first step out of 10 Lakhs bag. When you look at a SUV you need to think of having all minimum features as standard equipment and for God's sake do not expect a nice FE like a hatch back.

So with the above, Renault thought that it will be successful by giving some very competitive pricing for its entrant model, but which is missing so many features. So for this extent, Scorpio, Safari, even XUV 500 are not the SUVs infact they are MUVs.

Some body really thinking about an effective SUV then think about a full SUV like Captiva, Fortuner, Vitara, Yeti, X-trail, BMW,AUDI and others in this range where you will really enjoy an SUV.

So my personal opinion is rather than going for Duster, it is better to buy the out going Captiva with good discount around 2 Lakhs and when it is an SUV just forget about super FE and enjoy its drive !!

please read it carefully 7.19 l is for the base varient petrol price at Delhi ex showroom not inclusive of all taxes,

full future loaded top end is 1 lakh cheaper than xuv 5oo

When I first looked at price, I was like . Pirces are almost same as Scorpio and XUV and that to for such a low powered machine. IMO If at all Duster is going to be sold in good numbers or any numbers it would be this variant RxE: Rs.7.99 Lakh. Rest all no one can easily predict Indian buyers mentality except Sam. ha ha ha

I made that comment because I have seen the duster yesterday directly and from side angel it looked to me like a big lorry !!
