How is the ride quality, engine performance and handling, FE after driving in the neighborhood of 1L kms?
Dubai roads are butter smooth and hence the stiff suspension coupled with low profile tyres hardly bother me. For most parts, it is plaint and comfortable. Even if it does hit minor undulations at speed, the car remains stable and there is no excessive pitching, bobbing or bouncing around. All in all, I am very happy with the ride quality.

I have said this before and will say this again - the engine is a capable performer and 0-100 kmph comes up very fast but the excessive drone of the CVT ruins it and I really do not feel like pushing the car to it's limits.

Handling is among the best in the segment. It corners like on rails and I have actually taken exit ramps at 100+ kmph with no discomfort or understeer.

Fuel efficiency is 11.5-12 kmpl, my daily drive to office and back is with 100% AC and 140 kmph both ways. Good enough for a 2.0 engine with an A/T transmission which is not really driven slow.

How efficient is the A/C and how does it keep with Dubai?
A/C is a chiller. I usually keep the Auto AC at 22-24 degrees and it literally chills the cabin in no time.

BTW What is the maximum speed limit in expressways/highways?
On major highways - 120 kmph with a grace of 20, so it is 140 kmph
On major highways (some crowded areas) - 100 kmph with a grace of 20, so it is 120 kmph

I never liked CVT and I felt DSG is far superior compared to it. Anyways, cornering at 100+ sounds dangerous. But if planted and confident, then it is fine. And 140kmph in butter smooth road as daily commute might be fun ride for you. Especially with Lancer. I did 100+ in GQ road in Lancer and it war inspiring, handling was top-notch and there is no reason to hate this car.

I envy you bro, because you ride my dream car(Sad Mitsubishi stopped catering India) in insane speeds at good roads. What else one can ask for?

Ramps in Dubai have banking, so it really is comfortable taking turns at those speeds, except the inertia which throws you outside.

I have taken tighter and steeper ramps at 40-60 kmph. The same ramp could not be done at 50 kmph in my friend's Corolla.

Actually, 140 kmph is not really that insane here. People who know where the speed cameras are even drive at 160 kmph in peak hour traffic!

^^ 160 kmph in traffic. I hardly cross 50kmph here in my city. *Sigh*
It is not a good thing. A lot of accidents happen here and even though emergency response is very quick and prompt, there are a lot of fatalities which happen on dubai roads.

Great roads coupled with cheap and powerful 4.0 and 6.2 litre cars (and cheap fuel) encourages drivers to drive faster than it is safe.

This is the road I take to and fro work. It is a nice 6-7 lane express highway. On peak hours, the traffic is much more dense than shown in pictures.

Roads looks great. But accidents can't be avoided, unless those fools don't know what they are doing. I won't do 160+ just because I have an SUV/3L+ engine. I will do it only on certain occasions where I am 100% sure. So, yes, we can't do much about it. All we can do is drive safe at speed that we are comfortable with. Not at the vehicle's maximum speed.

It's hard for us to get anything above 3.0L+ in India and damn costly. I can't imagine what a 6.0L+ is capable and what ruckus it will create if driven by wrong one. Morons are everywhere who don't value their lives and nor others.

I noticed that my car was pulling to the right. A few days back, I had gone to Abu Dhabi to visit my cousin. It about 125 kms from my place and I did feel the pain in my left hand trying to keep the car in the lane. Anyways, I reached AD and we went for dinner and then I parked the car and went off to a good sleep! The next morning, I was supposed to drive back to Dubai but the car did not start. Luckily, I had a jumper cable in the boot and jump started the car with a help of a mini pick up driver who offered help.

I reached Dubai and directly drove into a service bay in a petrol station. These guys service tyres, A/C, batteries, etc. They checked the battery and told me that it was due for a change. They did not have any branded batteries and hence I chose not to replace my battery there.

Called up my friend and he suggested that I should visit New Bharath Pit Stop. A blessing in disguise. I got the battery changed (Amaron) and tyre alignment done. Prices were reasonable too.

Battery - Rs. 2,955/-
Alignment - Rs. 2,085/-

Also, Lancy touched 1,20,000 kms and hence it was time for it's service again. This time, it was a major service and all fluids had to be changed.

Called up Mitsubishi's A.S.S. and they quoted Rs. 40,000/-! [frustration]

Then I called up Dynatrade (a reputed multi-brand garage in UAE) and they quoted Rs. 12,165/-. Some told me to avoid Dynatrade as they use the cheapest oils and fluids available in the market.

In the end, I chose to buy all original Mitsubishi parts myself and get everything mentioned in the service manual at my FNG. Faster and cheaper!

List of things that were changed -

  • Adnoc fully synthetic oil - Rs. 1,738/-
  • Oil filter - Rs. 695/-
  • Dot3 Brake fluid - Rs. 521/-
  • Air filter - Rs. 2,085
  • AC filter - Rs. 2,085
  • Coolant - Rs. 956
  • Mitsubishi CVTF J1 transmission fluid - Rs. 3,736
  • Spark plugs - Rs. 3,476/- (Purchased but did not change)
  • Labour charges - Rs. 5,563/-
Grand total - Rs. 20,855 (50% of what The A.S.S. quoted [clap])

Additionally, brake pads were checked and its good for another 10-15k kms. One rattling noise from the driver's door was also rectified.

Quite some time since I updated this thread.

I have moved to a new place closer to my office and thankfully my daily running has reduced by more than 50%. Lancy's odo stands at about 126,000 kms now.

That said, Lancy was gifted to me on 26/07/2014. After 5 days, we will celebrate her one year anniversary.

Initially I wanted to give her a nice spa treatment, inside and out. But now, I have decided to change her crappy Goodyear (215/40/R18) shoes to Nitto Invo (225/45/R18). These tyres have an amazing tread pattern (hot!) and I have heard great reviews about them regarding the low NVH and high grip/comfort.

Trouble is, I am having a hard time sourcing these tyres!

Apart from the scheduled oil changes (I do it every 10k) and one battery replacement, Lancy has given me no trouble at all. She still runs beautifully at 126k on her odo and looks hot in that shade of red!

Mistake: I wish I had not touched the stock head unit. Yes, I got a reverse camera, USB compatibility, Bluetooth, Navigation, etc. But I lost on the awesome sound quality which the Rockford Fosgate used to provide.

After quite a lot of dilly dallying and some extensive research, I finally replaced the shoes on Lancy.

Out goes the crappy GoodYears and in comes these -

Nitto Invo 225/40 R18

Short and precise review on these tyres -

  • Proudly boasts it's Japanese origin and manufacture!
  • The tread design is unique and looks great.
  • The noise levels have come down a fair margin, but not as much as I would have preferred. I guess the Lancer cannot really mask tyre noise.
  • Grip as expected is good, have not tested it in wet conditions though.

Lancy has touched 1,30,000 kms now.

Took her for a minor service yesterday at a FNG. Changed the engine oil (fully synthetic) and Mitsubishi branded original oil filter.

Total cost = 150 AED ~ 2,725 INR

Minor issues -

  • The car is pulling very slightly to the right, need to check the alignment.
  • Steering feedback is not very smooth, some minor jerks can be felt when straightening out from U-turns and round-abouts.
  • Wind noise from the rear left door above 80 kmph. The door beadings seems to be fine.
Overall FE -

  • Within City - 9.5 kmpl
  • Highways @ 140 kmph - 11 kmpl

What wax/sealant are you using? What detailing steps do you take?
I do not use any wax/sealant nor do I detail my car! My car gets cleaned thrice a week by the car washing company in my building and I get it pressure washed once in two months.

I get this asked a lot though (whether I polish the car)! I think the red colour has a natural shine to it! [:D]

How much did the tyres cost you?
The tyres cost me approximately 8,700 INR per piece.
