I did not damage the headlights. Got to know that they are expensive and just casually enquired with the A.S.S.

Meanwhile, a pic -

Well i dint see any post of anyone mentioning the headlights so i assumed.
I was reading on FB that someone bought a used BMW 3 series for 12 lakhs & then had a gearbox issue which got a quote of nearly 7 lakhs. Thats what you call a bad day!

@incarnation Why did you want the headlights in the first place? You surely dont have an Evo [:)] otherwise it would be a popular thread.

Bought the below OBD2 Car Auto Diagnostic Scan Tool online -

item_XL_6716060_4325388.jpg

It connects to the normal OBD port of my car and transmits data to my phone via Bluetooth. I have purchased the "Torque" app on my phone and the information it shows is frankly overwhelming. Apart from the usual ECU error codes, it shows -

  • Acceleration G force
  • RPM
  • Throttle input
  • Speed
  • Turbo boost
  • Coolant temperature
  • Oil temperature
  • 0-100 kmph (as measured by GPS)
  • 100-0 kmph time
  • 1/4 mt time
  • 1/8 mt time
  • Horsepower
  • Emissions reading
  • Engine torque
  • Air fuel Ratio
  • Air temperature
  • Engine load
  • Exhaust gas temperature
  • Fuel pressure
  • Intake air temperature
  • Intake manifold pressure
  • Timing advance
  • Transmission temperature
And a lot more. Best part is, due to my aftermarket HU, I can mirror all these information on my head unit screen and I can see live data of my car's performance via meters and graphs right in front of my eyes! Now, I am not sure what I will do with all these information, but it makes me feel I am piloting a Boeing rather than driving a Lancer! [glasses]

The unit cost me 900 INR (its a bit cheaper in India). Add another 300 INR for the paid version of the Torque software on my phone.

My HU has this screen mirroring function - basically it replicates my phone's screen on it's screen. So I just have to connect my phone via a cable to the HU and start the torque app on my phone. All the data is visible live on the HU via my phone. It shows me my accelerating timings, how economically I am driving, how much power I am using and a host of other information which I am yet to discover.

Lancy's ODO reads 1,10,000 kms now.

After I had installed the new head unit, I had observed the following cons -

Cons I observed:
I connected the USB with some songs, but it is taking a long time to read/load the USB. I have to check again.
Turns out that this was an issue with the pen drive and not really the head unit. I changed the pen drive and not only does it read all the songs comfortably but I have also loaded it with some movies and video songs. I watch these videos while waiting somewhere and not while driving. .

Noticed a rattle from the rear left door while playing bassy music. This was not there before. I feel the stock HU used the subwoofer solely for the bass and the speakers were just for the mids and highs. This one I feel uses the speakers for the lows too and hence the rattle.
The rattle was due to a missing screw in the rear door panel locking mechanism. Screw fixed, rattle gone!

I have been searching for some good alloys, but no luck as of now. the last option will be to paint my current alloys.

Lancy's odo stands at 1,14,500 kms at this moment. Which means I have driven her about 30,000 kms in the past 8 months.

Thats a monthly running of 3,750 kms... on a petrol Automatic. Back in India, I would not even dare to look beyond a diesel hatchback for this kind of running!

Anyways, coming to the car - Lancy is running perfectly. I have not spent a penny on her apart from her scheduled oil changes. She is a fill-it-and-forget-it kind of car.

Yep, I did change one tyre but that was my mistake of ruining the tyre by running it with next to nil air in it!

Also, she is giving me consistent a FE of 11.5-12.0 kmpl. Not bad considering the high speeds at which she is driven. I once drove from Abu Dhabi to Dubai at a constant 120 kmph (set in cruise control) and the MID showed me 13.8 kmpl. I am sure if I drive her at 80-100 kmph, she will easily give me 14-15 kmpl, but driving that slow is not possible on UAE's roads!

She has her minor service coming up at 1,15,000 kms. I plan to do it at a multi brand service centre (Speed Fit). This service centre is owned by the same group who runs Miitsubishi's service centres in UAE. It is nothing but a normal service where you need to change her oil and oil filter. The last time I had filled her with Adnoc fully synthetic oil at a FNG and it has held up pretty well for 10,000 kms. This time, I will go for mineral oil (5000 kms) as she has her major service at 1,20,000 kms and I plan to take her to the Mitsubishi A.S.S. for a complete check up.

Oh yes, the summers are slowly returning in here and the A/C has started working at full blast again. I had almost forgotten what a chiller her A/C is!

I had planned to go to a multi car dealership for Lancy's 1,15,000 minor service. But due to shortage of time and lack of planning, I could not book an appointment.

So, again I went to my usual FNG and got her service done. Due to reasons mentioned above, I went for normal mineral oil this time (5000 kms).
  • Replaced the dirty oil with 4 litres of Toyota mineral oil
  • Replaced the oil filter with Mitsubishi genuine oil filter
  • Cleaned the air filter (It is due for a change, will be done after 5000 kms)
  • Cleaned the AC filter (was very very dirty)
  • Checked all fluids (no top-up was required)
  • Checked the brake pads and disc
  • Checked the underbody for any damages or leak, everything seems to be fine
All in all, the total cost was a mere 110 AED, which is approx 1,873 INR.

Meanwhile, people in here are very careless while opening the doors in the parking. This has left a lot of small dings on all four doors.

Hello raj_5004 hope you are able to recognise me [;)]. It's great to see that the lancer is serving you so well. One question I'd like to ask is Dubai is hot and the average car speeds are high there how much does the tyre pressure fluctuate from the time you leave home to the time you reach office. And how does the air filter hold given it's very dusty and sandy there. All the best for such a joyous car minus the GB off course [lol].

Cheers,
Subhra

Of course!!

It varies between 2-3 psi. My car's tyres are normally 32-33 psi when hot and drop to 29-30 psi when cold. Interesting question by the way!

And how does the air filter hold given it's very dusty and sandy there.
Yes, that's a problem. The air filter does get dusty, especially since I do the service once in 10,000 kms. I am planning to buy a new filter in the next service, at 1,20,000 kms.

How is the ride quality, engine performance and handling, FE after driving in the neighborhood of 1L kms? How efficient is the A/C and how does it keep with Dubai? BTW What is the maximum speed limit in expressways/highways?
