GeeTee gave 11 kmpl in the last tank, calculated on tankful to tankful basis.

It ran 557.3 kms on 50.55 litres of petrol, equating to 11 kmpl.

Not to forget, this car had been to the service centre and I was not really driving it in economy mode. I am pleased!

You are right, the one on extreme left is the old Lancer here. The one in middle is the new Lancer, known as Lancer EX. My car is the GT version of the Lancer EX.

There is one more Lancer here, known as Cedia in India.

A short term update:

* I love the fact that this car has cornering headlights, very useful in bends and Dubai's numerous roundabouts!
* Inspite of having 18" wheels on low profile tyres, the ride quality is amazing.
* Body roll is minimal and the car holds it's line well on fast cornering.
* CVT still bothers me, I miss the normal downshift pattern which is experienced in regular ATs. What the CVT does instead is a continuous high revving action.
* Build quality is superlative, far better than some other tinny Japanese cars. The doors close with a THUD.
* The Rockford Fosgate music system is a treat, wish it had USB though.
* Steering is harder than other sedans but is a joy on the highways with excellent feedback.

FE: 10 kmpl in the last tank and 11 kmpl before that.

MODS planned:

* Better alloys
* An end can for a sportier exhaust note (or FFE if Dubai regulations allow that)
* Touch screen head unit with USB compatibility
* CF stickering for the hood, door handles & ORVM

Took Lancy for a oil change service today.

I chose to go to a private garage over the A.S.S., reasons being:
  • The A.S.S. gave me really poor service the last time I went there
  • They will not accommodate me on a Thursday evening at 6 pm
  • They will not inspect the car or let me inspect the car in normal oil change service

Went to a private garage which was near my place. He gave me the option of mineral oil to be changed every 5000 kms for AED 100 or fully synthetic oil to be changed every 10000 kms for AED 160. I chose the latter. The price includes a new oil filter as well as a basic check up of the car.

So, work done was -

  • Oil change with ENOC fully synthetic oil
  • Oil filter change
  • Underbody check for leaks or damage while the car was on the lift
  • Air filter clean
  • All fluids check
Total damage = AED 160 (Approx INR 2700)

In contrast, the A.S.S. would have charged AED 320 which is approximately INR 5400 for mineral oil.

Running update:

Lancy is giving me a consistent 11 kmpl on Dubai roads. I still do not like the CVT.

Apart from that, I like everything about this car. The A/C is a chiller, which is very important considering the Dubai climate. The high speed manners and poise is superb, which is again important considering the Dubai roads. Space in the cabin is good, atleast in the front seat. I have not used the rear seat till now!

The cabin is fully black with carbon fibre trim in the GT version. While I like it, it may not be very well accepted back in India. Anyways, all lower versions get the normal beige-black interiors.

Some issues/niggles:
  • Wind noise & tyre noise is high above 120 kmph.
  • Engine drone is disturbing, part of the reason for this is the CVT.
  • The wobbling at 120 kmph remains unsolved.
  • Electronic ORVM on the LHS does not work completely. Up/down is fine but left/right does not work!

Any photo shoot with you and Lancy in Dubai would be appreciated .
I am not someone who fancies being in front of the camera.

I will do a good photoshoot of the Lancy, but I am waiting to take her out on a road trip. It's just that it's summer here and you dont really feel like going on a road trip when it is 35-40 degrees outside!

p.s Should have gone abroad atleast to drive cars like these [frustration]
You bet.

Short update:

Lancy is running beautifully without any issues.

And she is clocking up miles like anything. I have driven about 8500 kms in her in 2.5 months.

What I will like to change in her:
  • I will like a more refined engine. This thing just growls and screams when revved hard. Nothing like the sweet exhaust note of the Civic.
  • The CVT does not help either. It also dampens the fun to drive factor.
  • The headunit - who uses CDs these days?

What I will love to be untouched:
  • The looks - she is a stunner, especially in this shade of RED.
  • The ride and handling - sublime, yet sporty.
  • The steering feedback - just perfect.

Some pictures below from the recent trip to Al Ain (Jebel Hafeet) which is known as the best driving experience in the UAE (although I did not feel that!) and later some desert camping in Fujairah (Dibba beach).

I am quite surprised by the driving habits of the people in Dubai.

The roads here are really good - well paved and well marked and upto international standards. However, I see atleast 2 brutal crashes every week and hear about numerous others. And that is only because people drive here like maniacs.

Most of them have pretty powerful cars here, right from 2.0 L sedans to 6.4 L SUV monsters! And since the roads are smooth, they drive flat out. Tail gating at 120-140 kmph is so common here that people dont even realize the risk behind it.

The route I use is a massive 6-7 lane express way and I have seen cars cutting across 4-5 lanes in one go! Just yesterday I saw a Toyota Hiace which had crashed into a Honda City moments before I arrived on the scene.

Of course, Dubai is much better in driving manners than Abu Dhabi. I usually steer clear of cars with AD registration. And once you exit these two cities and go to places like Fujairah and Ajman, the driving standards become outright dangerous.

Anyways, my car is nearing it's 1,00,000 mark now and I am planning to give it to Mitsu this time for it's major service.

Lancy is just 400 kms short of touching the 1,00,000 kms mark now.

Have booked her "semi-major" service at the Mistibishi A.S.S for this weekend. I had decided that all her major services will be done in the Authorized Mitsubishi service centre and all the minor services (oil and filter change) will be done outside.

This service will consist of oil and filter change along with a basic check up of brakes, belts, other fluids, etc. Will update this thread after the service.

Got my Lancy serviced at 1,00,019 kms at the Mistubishi A.S.S.

Work done:

Engine oil changed (Mobil)
Oil filter changed
Drain plug changed (???)

They have claimed to cleaned the Air filter, topped up fluids, checked the belts and lubricate the suspension. However, I am not sure about that!

Total hit on wallet = AED 921 (Approx INR 15,350) [frustration][frustration]

I should have taken it to the express lube at petrol stations or a FNG for this kind of service. I had not done a thorough check up of the vehicle since the day I bought it. I was hoping the A.S.S. will do that in this service. They have reported no other issues. I am hoping they have bothered to look for issues, if any!

Did a small trip to the Jebel Al Jais mountains this weekend. It is known as the UAE's best driving experience. The below map of the road will hint at the fun you can have there -

If you want to have a better perspective, the below AD was shot there -

Lancy behaved extremely well on the twisties. Fully composed with excellent steering feedback and road manners. The chassis seems to be built for such roads. This is one place where the Mitsu can leave the Toyotas and Nissans behind!

Not even once did I use the Auto mode for gear shifts. Paddles were used extensively and I still wish Lancy has a conventional A/T instead of the CVT.

While returning, it was pitch dark and Lancy's cornering headlights were a real boon. You do not understand it's importance on well lit city roads!

Some pics I could capture:
