I am only saying the audiophile units are charged 4-5L by the manufactures and would probably cost more than 10L in open market. It's just my thought that changing a Bang & Olufsen system with any brands won't increase SQ what's so ever. I am speaking about brands like Masconi, Gladen and Audison. My uncle's MD has an Audi A6 with Bang & Olufsen system while he also owns an Accord with 8L pure active setup comprising brands like Masconi, Rainbow Audio, Audison and Gladen. Was blown off by the SQ setup in his accord installed by one of the best installers in India. Still his Audi's Bang & Olufsen system beat it hands down in terms of SQ and he still loves his music in his Audi. I am just wondering how your friend manages to provide much better SQ compared to likes of pure Audiophile systems like Burmester and Bang & Olufsen.

Also music systems for Studio and Conference rooms/Malls cannot be compared to a car audio setup and they are miles apart in difference.

Just was astonished to find out that your installer was replacing audiophile units in Luxury cars with cheap Chinese amplifiers. Sorry to say this but from numerous reviews of the Glider amplifier working for only days or months to poor performance many has advised to stay away from them. So i thought your installer has lied to you about his installs of Glider amplifiers in Mers/Audi/BMW

Just confirmed with my car accessories friend, He says HID without projector may cause scattering during rains. He has advised going for hid units which come with projector. Confused now as it costs a whopping 15k[confused]

Regards,
Sankar
Sorry SN, I had not mentioned that he installed glider in Merc. or other vehicles of those kind. They have their own handsome budgets. To me, its working great. And during a TAI meet near Bangalore, even the members were impressed with the sound quality. Sometimes, we have to keep our eyes opened to the performance of the product than its origin. And most of the well known brands are manufactured in China now under the original company's license.

Before you finalize on HID, just think its really necessary, and confirm the price is genuine. When I enquired at Chennai about the price a month back, I was told something between 9 to 12k for philips with projector. But I am not keen, as I am avoiding night drive now a days.

Ok lets leave the ICE discussion as we are going off topic now. lets get back to preparations for my trip to Leh[:D]

12k for philips with projector  The best price quoted by my friend was 10k just for Philips 4300k H4 Hid. The Chinese brands which has hid with projectors cost 14-15k. ARe you sure cost of Philips Hid with projector is just 12k?

Wow Sankar this should be an awesome trip!

A road trip to Leh should be a life time achievement. One of my friend did this couple of years back from Bangalore and what he had to say about the entire trip was something like 'Eclipsed the Mt Everest' [lol]

Well you have time till next year and i would suggest that you do a proper planning for the trip. A solo trip to Leh is not advisable at all after taking into consideration the road conditions. My friend did his trip in a Safari and have had few under body bruises despite the high GC so be prepared for the road blocks ahead. If you are alone then i think you may not be able to handle everything that comes in your way.

I agree to the fact that you are a capable driver with an unlimited passion towards driving but this trip to Leh cannot be compared to a 220km drive to EKM. The trip to Leh will be an extreme test of not only your driving skills but also your mental and physical endurance. For a trip that last 30 days you are roughly covering ~350-400kms each day and you cannot drive for more than 10-12 hours. Once in a while going for a 19hour drive will not make a difference but for 30 days if you drive for 10-12 hours/day i am sure your body will show you the red line. [evil]

Let's have a brief breakup on the cost of trip

Fuel expense for 11000kms should be at least 35,000 (by next june the diesel price will become 65rs/liter [confused with an avg FE of 20kmpl]
Toll expense - 7000rs
Hotel expense - 1000per day - 30000rs
Food - 10,000rs
Misc - 15,000rs
So Total - Rs 97,000/-

Few cons of going solo

1) As someone said earlier slowly but steadily boredom will creep in as there is no one with you to talk
2) If you have some trouble with your vehicle it will be a nightmare to be alone
3) Physically you will get exhausted due to the persistent driving in difficult conditions
4) Cost of trip going up, if you have 2-3people on the same car then the cost will be divided equally say you can limit your expenses to 35k if you are with a group of 3

Having said this you still have some good 9 months for this trip to materialize, i am sure you will get someone with you to share the excitement of this Leh trip! Good Luck!

Glad that I landed here. Sanker if you are going Solo the last 30% would be really tough and it's advisable to bring in few others with you at least for that leg. You do not need too much hunting for that as I am already planning a trip to Leh/Ladakkh sometime next start of summers and can offer from services from Delhi [angel]

Actually my car is currently equipped with 130/100w Philips headlamps. Won't it be enough?

Philips halogen 130/100w is very power hungry so thought of changing them to Philips HID with projectors.

Hi Godfather,

Thanks for the informative post. Your spot on negatives of doing the trip solo. Also i didn't compare doing Trivandrum-Ernakulam trip to that of a trip to Leh. It's just that i don't get fed up of driving at all. I am searching for like minded folks who also want to travel to Leh in a leisurely manner. I plan to stop at many places like Mangalore (Udupi Temple), Goa, Mumbai, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab and onward to Leh. On return i plan to take a different route through Calcutta. Duration of trip is planned to be 30 days. Don't know if this is possible[confused]

Sankar

Sankar, thanks for the offer. I shall accept it with open heart. I would have boarded a friends group in 2 weeks but I am really short on leaves so won't be doing it this time.

If your plan is intact, you can count me in for sure. I will join you from Delhi/Rajasthan (your preferance) and on the way back would find out similar de-boarding point.

I have not thought about taking my Car along as I have a humble Waggie with me.However we can think about it and possibly will try to bring in one more enthusiast on-board if we plan to take one more car.

excited [clap]

Humble Waggie? Bro i have seen Alto/M800 in Leh with KA registration. Driven carefully i think your car will negotiate the Leh easily. Also i think GC of Wagon R is much better than my Dzire[confused]

Trip is on for sure and i have already talked to my manager regarding leaves. Do let me know from where you can join and we can plan accordingly.

Sankar, have you been to Leh before?? Wow!! you never told us [anger]
I have read lots of travelogue of guys taking all kinds of vehicles from M800, Alto, Swift to Linea and all kind of SUV. I have also seen bikes commonly Bullets but now a days people even go with sports bike like Ninja. I know one thing for sure Yamaha FZ can make it to Leh without any issues thanks to Faizal[clap]

Sankar
