@ Cool Dhaya: I was travelling alone from chennai to pondicherry and this happened at kalpakkam. It costed me Rs. 4,50, 000 and 45 days to get this back on to its original condition and the cars has clocked 60k kms after the accident. I escaped unhurt as i had the seat belts on. I was on 140+ on the speedo when this truck came from a parking by lane on to the main road and i had no option but to hit it.

That is good that you used your seat belt

and double credits to you and your car as

You were able to drive them
Your car was in running condition.

Since as you are in body shop and painting business of car , dont you feel the repairing amount is on high side.

check the previous pages for my pictures of accident innova of my friend .

its estimate is 6+ L and its more than 8 months and the car is still in toyota . it has airbag and abs too , V model

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: Two persons including a woman were killed in a road accident on Sunday after the car they were travelling in collided head-on with a speeding bus on Boat Club Bridge in Muttukadu, on East Coast Road.

The condition of two other passengers is said to be critical.

Sources with the Adyar Traffic Investigations indentified the deceased as Nandini Das (36), a resident of New Delhi and car driver Raji (24), a native of Tirunelveli.

Nandini, her husband Antin Kumar Das (48) and their daughter Charvee Das (14) had come to Chennai on Sunday morning.

They hired a private taxi and were headed to Puducherry for a holiday. Around 1.30 p.m., the car collided with an SETC bus coming towards Chennai. The driver of the car Raji, and Nandini died on the spot.

Antin and Charvee were badly wounded and were rushed to a private hospital in Kelambakkam, police sources added. The driver of the bus Senthil Kumar (42) was arrested by police.

Dhaya as i mentioned earlier , it was 3 of them hiring a taxi and 2 person died including the driver.

and the people were not foreigners , as per this report and papers they were north Indians. we crossed the bridge at 3.15pm almost waiting for half an hour. The ambassador was like crushed by a giant elephant , nothing was on the top. The bus has front side damaged , kinda bend front panels.

@ Ilango Strange! In TOI it was mentioned the passengers were foreigners.

What , 8 months and still the car is not delivered? And Ilango Toyota's parts like Bonnet , bumpers etc which gets damaged in an accident are really costly when compared to other cars!

@ Arkin I don think even ABS would have helped at such high speed.

ABS indeed helps dhaya.
What it needs is panic braking.
But not surely for reckless driving.
I think Pranay's Innova didn't had ABS.

@ Pranay: Your's incident should be a lesson for all of us.

Mukesh i agree it surely helps but does it really help in speeds like 140+kmph?
Yes Dhaya my Scorpio just a press on brake pedal.
Comes to zero within no time.
At the same time driver should downshift gear accordingly to the speed.
You will have full control even if you do such speeds.

@ Cool Dhaya: Thats what amazed me as well... What quality standards toyota has... Par Excellence! Swift has a problem with the braking... I have repaired so many swift's.. When I ask the customers they say they were on 60 - 80 speeds, but when they slam the brakes the cars refuse to stop.. ABS loaded swifts are atlea on step better....

@ Pranay I am amazed to hear that the Innova was driven back to the city in the same state! My friend's Swift which hit a TATA Ace at only 40kmph refused to start itself!

And about the incident which Ilango mentioned i read the report in the paper. They are foreigners who had come to India on a tour. They were here to Chennai just that morning from Delhi by flight. They had booked a trip to Mahabalipuram from airport and this accident ocurred on the way to Mahabalipuram! I think they are just a couple and they died on the spot including the driver! May theirs souls R.I.P!

@ Ilango: The parts of toyota are very expensive... for eg. the blower motor for the AC is alone 50k.. 8 months and innova not yet completed is something strange.. Are all the documents clear for it viz., insurance, fir, rc, license etc etc.. Which service station in chennai????

@ Arkin Young: With ABS, the car could not be stopped, but yes the damage would be less as the control is much more than the normal drum/ disc systems....

@ Cool Dhaya: The AirBags are pretty expensive. A pair of Bags on skoda would cost 1,60,000 +

@ Mukesh: Yes, my innova dint have an ABS!

One thing to be noted guys while doing top speeds load should be there.
That is more people more stable the vehicle would be, without flaoting effect.

@ Pranay Yes Skoda spare are a bit costly but still an airbag is a life saver in some cases(not always) and it can possibly save your life sometimes!

@ Mukesh Its better to drive around 90-100kmph in our highways , you never know what would happen next!

Mukesh Anna, don't go upto 140. Stick to 110-120. Indian highways are full of people who need to be denoted by asterics (**).

@ Ilango: What is the reason for delay? You can write to TKM _ Banglore or otherwise Toyota Motor Corp - Japan if there is no repsonse from the service dealer. Toyota has an excellent reputation for customer satisfaction! It cracks down on the service dealer if they find a mistake with them.

@ Cool dhaya: Airbags are definitely a life safer. There is no doubt about it.

@ Mukesh & Arkin: I precisely agree with those speed limits, but how much do we in general adhere to it? there are sign boards on highways saying 80 as top speed. Do you think these speed limit boards on the highway are doing any good? I myself do 140-180 when i travel to banglore. 120 has become the minimum these days i would say on NH atleast!
