Without any doubt a diesel is the one you need to buy according to your inputs, but from my personal opinion, BIG NO for Figo for its GC. I am saying this driving my friends Figo very frequently and it disappoints me every time where there is a speed breaker or bad road I banged it many times, so go for a diesel and look for other options in same price tag. I suggest you to check with Vista is a complete VFM[:)]

Thanks everybody for taking out time and helping me

To be very frank, I am scared to buy a Tata vehicle due to perceived high maintenance cost.
I am cutting out the option of Amaze petrol (or any other petrol sedan) and will now be considering option for diesel hatch
I will TD,
For Figo again
Toyota Liva
Does anybody has idea about suspension issue in new Liva ( I asked one of the transport car driver who was driving a new Liva which was bought in April 2013 and he said that though the company claims but the suspension issue is not solved. He has replaced the suspension twice in 4 months, though under warranty.)
Otherwise I feel Liva is good as maintenance cost is lower in Liva (Am I right?)
Third option, Hyundai grand i10

Thats a false alarm about figo ground clearence. Post 2011 figo has 168 mm ground clearence which is actually higher than Vista and quite good enough if we drive good rather than hurry. IMO, in terms of quality, price, safety features no other car can beat Figo in its segment.

Liva has good driving abilities but worst interiors for the money we pay. Moreover it has bad suspension. So, i would recommend once again to go for Figo Titanium Diesel and enjoy the premium quality features at an offordable price. All the best.

It is not just the GC number I am talking about, I am talking about its soft suspension and the number of times it bang at the speed breakers. I just wrote my original ride experience with it and also in comparison with my Ritz and Vista where I never have to think when there is a speed breaker until unless they are fully loaded with 5 people on board with lot of luggage

The source is mainly Word of Mouth from 3 of my colleagues who owned Tata Indica in past
And also lot of bad mouthing done about Tata online
Lot has changed, And as per my knowledge the spare parts of FIGO may be costlier than Vista's. I may be wrong here. But then you can check the threads provided by Gurrala. Talk to owners personally and get more details about the Vista. [:D]

EDIT : FIGO spare parts are cheaper as compared to Vista. but the list provided is one year old. But still I think the gap of price would not have been reduced much if at all it is.

Ofcourse mate, you may have that experience. But believe me, being a Figo owner I never had that problem unless it is fully loaded. Perhaps your friend has got an older model of Figo which surely had severe GC problems, but not anymore with revised editions.

@mbendre, it was just a myth that Figo parts are costly. Now that have dedicated plant in Chennai, the prices are normal like any other reasonable car spares. And their service charges also reasonable in my experience.

So at last you narrowed down your options, good now the buying process will be much more simpler [clap]

I think you need to add Vista to your prospect list and let me tell you that your perception about Tata cars costly to maintain is completely wrong. Just think about the thousands of Indica cabbies plying our roads do you think that they will buy a tata car if maintenance was on the higher side? Try TD of a Vista and i am sure that you will fall in love with it and i am telling this because i have driven my friend's vista diesel. Neither have i driven a Liva nor i know about the suspension issues so no comments on that.

Older Indica (read around 10 years old) did have lot many niggles. And being the first car made in India by tata's was expected. But the days have changed. tata's are more sturdy and the best for rural roads. The maintenance cost id very less, and when you compare with the european/american counterparts, it is much lesser. Accepted there are still small niggles (like switch malfunction/ loose beading ) and manufacturing quality (quality of rubber/plastics, poor finish), but to drive them it is a pleasure and the best space and comfort. Though I accept its image is not that good among the fellow Indians. But rest is your call.. Good that this thread has helped you to come down to 2 choice and an alternative in grand i10.

Hey guys,
After this forum discussion,
I did Test Drive of Liva GD and Ford Figo diesel. To be very frank I liked Liva. I find it more smooth than that of Figo. But I am a new driver and does not understand much about cars so (Figo lovers) please take it with pinch of salt
Now about pricing
I negotiated with Both, Figo and Liva SA's
Following are the quotes received
PS: Mine is non-LBT registration thane
1) Ford Figo
Model: ZXI
Listed price: 6,71,831/-
Negotiated Price: 6,30,000/-
Reduction in price: 41831
-1 year additional warranty (i.e. 2+1= total 3 years)
-Inclusive of insurance
- Basic essential accessories( Floor mats, Mud flaps, teflon polish (Not Teflon coating)

2) Etios Liva (GD):
Listed price: 7,04,650/-
Negotiated price:6,75,000/-
Reduction in price: 29,650/-

-Inclusive of insurance
- Basic essential accessories( Floor mats, Mud flaps, Door and bumper guards, car cover, gear shift knob, sun visor organizer, rear door garnish)
advantage over Figo: ABS,EBD
Disadvantage over Figo: 30 liters less boot space
No additional warranty

Now I am inclined towards Liva, did anybody bought Liva recently. Is the price quoted right. I feel it's on higher side
The SA told me that there is no discount from dealer whatever discount is there it's from Toyota.
Now I find that strange, they are talking as if Liva is selling like hot cakes

Gentlemen, Do you feel price of Liva and Figo is justified? should I bargain more ?

Please advice

Lot of Figo cars are getting recalled and there are stories of low FE too !! so take this news into consideration before you finalise where price and FE are not only the deciding factors

mbendre, Sorry if I'm causing you more confusion. But how about Fiat - Grande Punto Dynamic 1.3 Diesel Car? IMO, In that price, No car in India has such a great build quality with ABS + EBD & Rear Wiper and other loads of features. It's like a tank and having the proved engine. (The Same engine is being used in Swift, Dzire and Ertiga) Moreover, You would get great discounts on Punto. However, whatever the car you buy, get the insurance from outside. It would save you atleast 10k. All the Best.

@ mbendre

Iam sorry but I will be adding some more confusion here .

Please test drive the i10 grand . I recently drove it and its a gem of a car .

In 7.85 lakhs on road Mumbai you get fully loaded top end car diesel version . It is a amazing package . At least go and check it and test drive it .
Some important features are

1) start and stop button

2) alloy wheels .

3) airbags and abs

And some other stuff which I don't remember .
