[confused] Why do you have to press the clutch for cranking? I start the car without touching the clutch. What has cranking to do with the clutch? Can you please explain?
Even I wonder that, it seems some issue was there in his manza which is being covered up by adjusting RPM. I am going out now & will post my rpm later in the evening.
This has been followed in the Quadrajet engine after May 2011 manufacture I think. Thats what the SE told. Without pressing the clutch my car would not start. and also the lot after May 2011 all Manzas are like that. I think yours were older model so you don't need clutch depress while cranking. This itself was a problem for during initial period. the car would not start easily with normal clutch press i have to press very hard to full. Then in 1st service they adjusted some control switch which the clutch presses so that cranking would happen .

Gypsy: When was your car manufactured . i think you purchased car before May 2011.

Pressing the clutch while starting is considered as a safety precaution.

In new Vista (sedan class), we can start only if the clutch is pressed.
Yes the Vista Sedan class also uses Quadrajet engine. Also another reason for this feature is to avoid cranking while engine is already started. thus avoiding damage to the starter motor

Below are my Speedo pics with diff speeds. All are for 5th gear

110 kmph the RPM is near 3K

Mine is Feb 2011, & I have driven 11 new manza due to my left pulling problems & last one I drove was sept 2011 batch I never witnessed this clutch pressing feature in that at least but you never know tata may have added this feature but I am not sure, I know 1 guy who has jan 2012 batch manza I will ask him.

here are my rpm/speed readings
1st gear @2000 rpm speed is 16km
2n gear @2000 rpm speed is 28km
3rd gear @2000 rpm speed is 42km
4th gear @2000 rpm speed is 60km
5th gear @2000 rpm speed is 80km

Even the TD vehicle I tested did not have the clutch depress and crank feature. The SE told that its FIAT which have changed like this for engine. So its common for linea, vista, manza etc.. which uses Quadrajet engine

Thanks Gypsy. For HR, autosafari, you get similar readings. So we can safely assume that these are normal values. These are the values I too got for initial month. Later the RPM started increasing which I noticed only from last 2 months. So as HR pointed out i will ask the TASS to check for clutch slippage. As far as I checked on internet the clutch slippage usually happens only due to wear and tear after many years of usage. i donot know why its happening for my new car. I will tell TASS to check If any adjustment would solve issue.

Re: My Buying Experience of Manza Aura Quadrajet

yes, within few hrs.
,
Did a RPM check during lunch intervel today.

In idling after start - 800 RPM
Switch on the AC - 800 RPM (no change in RPM)
Switch off the AC - goes to 850 RPM for a second and then again settle at 800 RPM.

In 4th Gear at 23 km per hour - 850 RPM

In 4th Gear at 40 km per hour - 1400 RPM

In 4th Gear at 50 km per hour - 1900 RPM

In 5th Gear at 70 km per hour - 1500 RPM ? (there was some fluctuation)

In 5th Gear at slightly above 80 kmph - 2000 RPM (ran out of road after that)
Couldn't arrange camera and shooter today, will post the pics earliest

@ Autosafari , if you would have not been ran out of the road , could have got similar readings as I have posted,@ higher rpms IMO.

Re: My Buying Experience of Manza Aura Quadrajet

@ Tornado, Autosafari got slightly above 80 kmph at 2000 RPM. That is what I too got. It matches with what Gypsy got.

Can you check your speedo at exactly 2000 RPM. If it is more than 85 or 95 as you have posted, can you post a picture.

If your speed is just over 80 with the RPM at 2000, you don't have to take any picture.

We just want to confirm if Rudolf is having a problem.

Just now I checked my First free service job Tax receipt given. In that it was mentioned R/R nozzle(each) RPM adjusted. At that time I did not enquire them. Does this mean anything to you people. What is R/R nozzle. I have mentioned during first service that I m getting too much of engine noise. Before 1st service I had hit under body on a pothole in night. So I told to check the engine noise underbody shield etc. I think they might have done this because I asked for checking loud engine noise.

TATA Motors replacing Anti-roll bar bush on Manza free of cost; No, this is not a recall :)
Tata Motors is at it again and this time too, the car and utility vehicle maker claims that the “replacement exercise” it is undertaking on the Manza sedan is not a recall. Coming straight to the point, Tata Motors is replacing the anti-roll bar bush, a vital component of the car’s suspension, on all Manza sedans, free of cost. Tata Motors’ dealers and authorized service centers are carrying out the repairs during the time when the Manza sedan is brought for the regular service. The customer need not pay anything for this replacement exercise.

Re: Ownership Experience of Manza Aura Quadrajet - 4000 Kms Completed

I have checked somewhere that for a particular rpm at particular gear, the Speed of a car can be calculated. The formula is as below:

S = (D x RPM) / ( 337 x GR)

where,
D = Diameter of Tire in inches
GR = Gear ratio(eg. if GR is 1.8:1, then 1.8 only has to be used here)
S = Speed in Miles per hour

Now I don't know Manza Gear ratio for diff gears. Could not find it in Brochure. Can anyone enlighten me with the Gear ratio values for Manza's 5 gears.
Using this I think we can arrive at the actual value of speed Manza is supposed to achieve at any gear at a given RPM.

Re: Ownership Experience of Manza Aura Quadrajet - 4000 Kms Completed

Second Service Update:

I gave my Manza to Concorde Motors, Ambattur, Chennai for the Second service. Details are given below.
Date: April 7th.
Kms done : 4300 (on April 7th)

Gave the vehicle for service by 10:00 AM.

SA Murugan took the compaints. Below are complaints:
1)Second Free Service
2)Left rear windows screaching noise. But when I showed him the noise was not there. Still told him to check it
3) The rub-rail in the left rear door fell off. Fixing it and putting proper seal so it does not fall off again.
4) The RPM - Speed mapping not in sync with other Manzas. Told them to check for Clutch wear
5) Asked them about the recall announcement, changing the suspension bush
6) As HR told I asked him if oil topup would be required. He said will be done if required. I asked him to check the oil level and confirm to me now itself. He was avoiding , but later checked. and said no oil topup would be needed. If I hadn't checked here, who knows they would have topped some oil and charged me.
7) Engine noise too much .

Also he told that now Manza Oil service schedule has changed. For 10,000 kms itself oil has to be changed. I asked in Manual its given 20000 kms or 1 year whichever comes first. But he said rules are changed now. how come for a engine service schedule will be changed in middle. I m at loss [frustration]. Can anyone explain ?? Is it possible to check with customer care about these details.

He kept insisting me to do outer body Polish - Rs.2600 will be charged. I said not needed now. I wasnot sure whetehr its needed. thought will consult with you people and then decide. Evening was delivery.

I went Evening at 5 PM. Waited for 30 minutes for delivery.

Problem solutions:
1) Done. SA explained what all was checked . He had a checklist for the 2nd service. AC checking, oil level, engine noise checking with Laptop, etc..

2) Lubricated the wires and PW settings. Noise was not coming.

3) Rub-rail fixed

4)This is the big joke of year. SA said thats not a problem at all. There is no relation ship between RPM and Speed [lol]. I thought of giving him a piece of my mind. But didn't have time to argue. He told there is no clutch slipping happening. If clutch slip happens, during 3rd and higher gears if clutch released in a hurry engine should not stall. But here it was stalling. So clutch slip issue is not there. He also said that each car has different settings. So RPM - Speed mapping should not be compared to other Manza cars.

5) For this Bush , he said If TATA send list of VIN nos for which the item has to be changed then only they will chnage this. I thought may its for older manufacture models and left it.

7) Engine noise was less compared to before.

Interiors - the doorpads were dirty. But I didn't have time to wait. So just drove away. Other outer body and dash board were clean after washing.

Re: Ownership Experience of Manza Aura Quadrajet - 4000 Kms Completed

Fulltanked in Chennai on 8th and I travelled back to Bangalore on 9th.
Reached 330 kms in 6:30 hours. Used AC for 75 % of time. I could see the MID display showing FE 22+.

In Bangalore did not drive for 2 weeks. The road to my office is being dug by BWSSB for the UGD work. So was using bike only for office.

Then on 21st travelled back to Chennai. Did not fill fuel in middle. This time started morning 6:30 Am. Reached Chennai in 6 hours and AC was on for 80 % of time. The MID showed 24.3 kmpl [clap] . I full tanked in Chennai BP at same bunk. Manza drunk 33 litres for filling tank for 679 KMS driven . So FE calculated by tank to tank method comes to 20.57 kmpl. But the MID display gave 23 kmpl (average of 22 and 24) Still I feel for full Highway driving this FE may be lesser. I think that was due to Oil has not been changed afetr purchase only 7 months old car. SO Have to check how much FE i get on Hghways after 1 year oil change.

Re: Ownership Experience of Manza Aura Quadrajet - 4000 Kms Completed

Guys: Pls donot think that i m too much obsessed with the FE. I mainly do this for fun. Otherwise driving becomes boring for me. If just pressing pedal to metal and driving fast, I get bored soon. Also 140 kms of the two lane stretch without divider doesnot allow me to go too fast. Whenever the AVG FE in DIS goes down I try to bring it to 25 or 24. I use the P & G (pulse and Glide )method. Thats how I keep myself engaged in driving.

Next i made a trip from Chennai to Bangalore on 23 Monday morning. Started 4:40 PM . I m alone now without family. Reached my office at 9:30. Thought it was pretty spright driving . Used AC only for 25 % time. FE in MID showed 24.3 . Greta going Manza. I love this car.

Re: Ownership Experience of Manza Aura Quadrajet - 4000 Kms Completed

I have got an overall FE of 18.08 kmpl till now for 7 months of ownership.
Out of the 5300 kms driven, Highways - 4000 and City - 1300 kms approx. So 80 % Highways driving. and 20 % City Driving.
The Ac would have been on for only 50 % of time.

My FE log snapshot:

Rudolf,

Don't worry to will get a good FE after the 3rd service.

Meantime, please check the fuel stations where you fill diesel.

Manza tank capacity is 44 litres.

You will always have some quantity left in the tank. Almost 7 to 8 litres in reserve.

You have shown full tank fillings of 50.8 litres and 45.9 litres which is even beyond the fuel tank capacity.

I do full tank to the brim. Still it is only 38 or 39 litres max when filling after the low fuel indicator glow.

Rudolf,

That is not tank full capacity instead the software is calculating that he traveled a leg of 887 kms which consumed 50.80lts fuel giving him leg mileage as 17.46kmpl.
I do full tank & often fill 42-43 lts in my tank so only 1lt fuel is left in my tank at that time.
