my mom needs a new car to replace her aging palio. she asked me to finalize one for her.
seems grand will be an apt choice. her choice of color is red and thanks to raja i see the wine red is pretty decent looks wise.

wanted to confirm from owners as to what mileage are they getting from the petrol variant. since my mom will be driving in Chandigarh where distance is not that much, petrol will suffice.

also has hyundai started offering any discounts on this new baby ?

also can anyone post the link to the official review of this car. I did search around but could not find anything.

took a test drive today of Grand Sportz Petrol at hans hyundai. Moti Nagar

points worth mentioning
  • look wise its resembles a shortened i20
  • interiors / fit / finish / door opening and closing all give a premium feel
  • boot is generous
  • spacious though not as wide as Brio but length wise is definitely longer
  • backside is airy but leg space is less or maybe at par with brio
  • liked the back side ac vents and charging point. Atleast we have a car in the B segment which treats the back passengers as kings.
  • only top model has music controls on steering / ABS / airbags / defogger / rear wiper though i found sportz to be more VFM.
  • The break is too hard. You press a little and the car stops. Mom had issues while driving since it will take time for her to adjust from a Palio. Even i felt the same while i took the test drive.
  • NVH are minimal. I give Hyundai 10/10 on this account. much better than my Brio.
  • Gears are butter smooth. hope Honda takes note and compares them with the sluggish Brio,
  • The break pedal is too high to my liking. felt pain in my left toes 'coz of the high stance of the break pedal.
  • The dealer had no top end model. the one in showroom as well the test drive vehicle were both Sportz.
  • The TD vehicle had done 780kms and was stiff. It did not fly like my Brio does even though both have 1200 cc engines.

end result , mom liked it and she has decided to buy this baby in wine red. need to check delivery status in chandigarh thou in delhi, they said aura will take 2/3 weeks while sportz will take atleast a month or two.

Hi Nitin, I am also having wine red Grand and everyone has appraised the colour [:D] driven almost 800Kms now. As for brakes they are very good in grand, ones you get used to the sharp brakes you'll love the control.

Ok can you please elaborate a little more on this?

what is the OTR of the petrol sportz version. I am planning to buy this variant. Do start the ownership thread once you get the car.
my mom has the price list and she is asleep now. will scan it and post it tomorrow. Roughly it was 5.60 lacs or so.

being almost new, maybe the engine needs to open up. I felt it was sluggish at lower speed and was begging me to be revved hard. But since mom was with me i could not do that and the little i tried i had to hear slow down, araam se from her [frustration].

my opinion is based with comparisons to brio which zooms with a little revving. also the clutch in Grand was a little laid back ( low stance) . I am at loss of words since am not aware of the exact terminology but if you compare the break with clutch, they seem to be not aligned properly ( my personal opinion )

since you own it, can you put some light on the break pedal. Is'nt it too high or am I missing out on something.

Hi nitin_k,
Yes as I have mentioned in my review BRIO was a better car to drive and I still have the same openion.
Yes you are right about the brake paddle position, however in my case seat height adjustment compensated for it. Getting in to Brio was a struggle for me in Grand it's ease.
I didnt notice about the clutch brake combination mismatch, are you referring to that the clutch has a long press and brakes are sharp?

exactly. IMHO, somehow the alignment was not plesant.

Brio still seems more airy and spacious inspite of Grand being longer. maybe its coz of the width, glass positioning and ergonomics.

also Grand is a low stance car like the Brio. Elders may have issues with ingress and egress but since palio is also somewhat a low stance car, mom did not feel the difference.

Nitin,

I thought of posting this question earlier, since you did a TD on sportz version: Did the lack of Height Adjustment feature was a major concern? I am of average height and I have seen reviews the people should check to see if the high dash might cause visibility issue during driving.

Please provide your feedback..

yes, you wont be able to see the beginning of the front bonnet but its same with most of the new cars. but then with experience one gets used to the fact as to where your car ends from the front.

In sportz and the top variant they offer back parking censors ( sound only) which i think is a good add on since the rear view is not that great either.

Hey venkythaniks, which car have you been driving so far?
Unless you are very much used to driving M800 or Alto or some very tall boys you'll not have challenge with the dash IMO and considering my height 5'8"

Does the sport version have steering height adjustment?
