re: New Hyundai Elantra SX Petrol,1 year and 8400 kms

Made a video today of the reverse gear.

https://youtu.be/RZ6Sq23n7PU
I think its due to design of synchromesh. It doesn't allow to easy slotting of reverse gear from neutral directly. You wouldn't have that issue if you first slot it into first and then into reverse.

As per hyundai engineers it just to prevent accidental shifting into reverse.

@bhvm- the headlights turn off while starting. so i guess there's no issue. thanks.

@krishna - another member reported the same thing for my figo as well [:D] anyways why would it happen 2 times in the video and the 3rd time it was smooth ?
i have experienced it when the car is cold , will have to drive more to see if it happens after driving for a while.

re: New Hyundai Elantra SX Petrol,1 year and 8400 kms

1. If headlights are HID, Turn off ALL auto functions to extend their life. Halogens no issues.
2. My i10 is 2008, They could not resolve reverse issue at any service center (Visited many) so I believe its by design or just poor implementation.

The 1st trick is to engage 1st and drive a few inches. Then reverse happens smoothly.
Second is to gently "try" Inserting reverse, while you lift the clutch half way, It slots in as you lift the clutch.

Try slotting from 5th to reverse gear directly, you'll understand what i'm trying to say.

i would not recommend this as this put a lot of stress on gear.

I couldn't tey your second method but now i dont think it's a system to avoid accidental shift but a problem. After driving for half an hour the reverse gear got stuck again. Yet to try reversing at first gear and then the reverse gear.

NAVIGATION SYSTEM.

This is the home page. This will pop up everytime the car starts. Maps on the left and media source on the right.

Dont think it does anything. Pathetic system for a car costing 17 lakhs. Tiago's system is much better atleast at that price. No point giving this sound software if there is no proper hardware.

re: New Hyundai Elantra SX Petrol,1 year and 8400 kms

I have found this reverse gear issue in my brother's Grand i10 too. Two things I am still not able to digest about car from this segment and price-
- Speed sensing autolock - its a must have Safety feature especially when kids are in the car. Even many B segment cars have this. Completely insane of Hyundai to skip this.
- Power Window buttons not backlit - Its a very convenient option to use at night and hardly would have cost Hyundai anything. For a premium car like Elantra its a crime to skip this. These small features make the daily usage convenient and even more fun.
Also for a premium car like Elantra, why they provided plastic door opening lever it looks out of place in a nice interior. Even in top models of Grand i10/i20 they provide silver finished one.

i have mentioned the same things in reply 1.
No speed Sensing Auto lock

Driver Armrest is fixed not at all comfortable to drive with fixed armrest. these little things takes away the fun to drive the car.
these both features are available in sx(0) which should have been standard.
even i would have preferred chrome on the door lever like my verna.

Congratulations. Always been a fan of Hyundai. Had the first gen sonata and it was a wonderful car and now the transform which is no less. Coming to the Hyundai, its ironic I am in the market for a used one since it seems such great value for money. This new one is a looker inside out. Have a great time with it.

@bigron - thanks for wishes. and you will have to wait some time for this car to get on the second hand car market. i found a top model automatic retailing at 21 lakhs selling for 18 lakhs on olx. just 300 kms run.

Car nearing 650 kms.

Beautiful. Very streamlined design. But no character of its own.

However, it it just me who thinks that this elantra now looks very similar to Global Verna/Accent? The 1st gen Elantra had a distinct character. Used to be on my hot list during college years. Im talking the one with dual pod headlamps, very loong hood, 110 BHP power.

Same thing happened with Sonata v6 2.7L. Damm thing used to look better than a merc E class from some angles. very distinct character.

re: New Hyundai Elantra SX Petrol,1 year and 8400 kms

you are right. But i still love the hyundai design. the new generation verna won't be a looker compared to the current generation. what i mean is people were eager to buy the new verna and same cannot be said for the upcoming generation.

also notice the "P" i pasted on the fuel lid. when i took delivery of my verna i went to the nearest petrol pump, told the attendant to do a tankful of petrol. he seemed confused , i came out of my car and told him again to fill in petrol. he didn't move , on telling him the 3rd time he asked me "are you sure it's a petrol" ? i told him yes it is. he then said " you are 100% sure it's a petrol?"
that time i too started thinking if it's a petrol [lol] so after telling him for the 5th time he filled petrol in the car.

it's better to paste an odd looking letter than to suffer an attendant's mistake.

This method should work everytime right ? But that's not the case.
Today engaged reverse gear , it got stuck , i slotted into first and then reverse it again got stuck.

Completed 700kms of driving. Would like to share my experience.

1. Reverse gear doesn't slot freely many times.
2. Even though it's been more than a month i couldn't find a proper seating position [confused]
I drive the verna in the morning and then shift to elantra in the evening. I am comfortable in the verna but as soon as i sit in the elantra i feel a little odd. I don't know if its the seat cushioning or what or maybe because of the armrest.
I felt the same thing in figo and only after getting the seat covers i found the seats comfortable.
3. Brakes are excellent. I avoided some morons and the car brakes performed really well.
4. The headlamps throw is very good. My friend having the new tucson said my elantra's halogen headlamps seems better than his tucson's HID.
5. Auto Headlamp turns on even when there is a good amount of light. They turn on around 6:00 pm in the evening now a days and i don't think i require them until 7:00 pm. Looks odd with the only car on the road with headlamps on.
6. My samsung galaxy s6's sound output is not upto the mark. I found out that iphone sound output is much better when connected via bluetooth when i checked in my friend's car. i am thinking to check the sound level via a usb or an iphone.
The music system seems below average otherwise.
7. The navigation system is really good. Tells you with visual aid which road to take.
8. Power delivery is really good and the car never felt underpowered.

Try moving forward a little in first gear and then try to engage to reverse.

Yup, my verna also the same. People keep reminding me that my headlight are on.

Thats the same case with all cars. Don't know how but iPhone's always has better quality and bass than androids in car audio systems.

2. Same with XUV. They are playing safe by keeping em on sooner than leaving you in dark.

3. problem is stock android player. Get playerpro and there is a world of difference. The 10 Band EQ is marvelous!
