New Car Pre-Delivery Inspection – An Exhaustive Guide

Before Taking Delivery of New Car

I booked Maruti A Star(AT) Car in Noida and at that time dealer told me that car will be delivered by 2 months because A Star AT is make to order car.
But within 3 days I got a call from dealer and he told me that my car is ready and will be delivered in 2 days.
After 2 days when i contacted them then they told me that, that car was dispatched to another dealer and I have to wait for 2 months.
After 1 week I again got call from dealer and he told me that my car is delivered to his store and I can take the delivery of car.
I am confused, Can any one Plz tell me that is dealer trying to sell some old car?
How to check the genuineness of car & dealer?

It’s possible that someone might have cancelled the booking and therefore dealer is able to allot the car earlier. You can check the manufacturing date through VIN.

Thanks for your reply.
Dealer is telling that this car is manufactured once he got confirmation from me.
Should I trust the dealer?
For Maruti car, from VIN how to check Date of Manufacture?
Or where Date of Manufacture is written?

The VIN should be engraved somewhere under the hood. This link has more info. You could decode it yourself or just submit it here and we’ll do that.

Great thread and you have covered every single point necessary that needs tobe checked before taking the delivery of your new car.
Can we also have the details of the necessary points needed tobe taken before taking the final delivery of the car from the showroom in this thread itself, small but significant things which would help many people for sure, i have made that list, would post it in some time, as going for the delivery of my new i10 in few mins.

Don't know is there any thread present for the same, if yes could anyone post that thread.

That's why I was wondering why New Car Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) is closed.

PDI was very helpful, did used PDI for Punto Dynamic Diesel.
All went pretty good, just some suggestions could MOD add some points to it.

1. Beads checking (In my case Windscreen bead is loose at one area, noticed it next day. Dealer said it can be corrected, hope it's not big issue?
2. Could PDI have Actual documents name that buyer need to take care and collect on delivery day.

I will be taking delivery of a new Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire LDi my this month end.Can someone please help me with some of my queries.

1) How to identify the VIN number in a Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire Tour.

2) How to check if the car has not been driven before.

3) Dealership is asking 4k as handling charges. Handling charges were abolished right?

4) Does Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire Tour come with synthetic oil? (New Dzire comes with fully synthetic oil)

5) Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire Tour is a bare metal car. Had to fit in accessories worth 1.20lakhs to bring it up to VDi standard. But my Dad's friend who run a car accessories shop in Trivandrum has given me a quote of only 50k (instead of 1.20lakhs by dealership). I conveyed to dealership that i won't need the accessories and their attitude has changed substantially. Will they do any sabotage to my car?

6) Does Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire Tour come in metallic white or ordinary white?

7) Should i do anti-rust coating from dealership? Their asking price is 3k

8) Should i do teflon coating from dealership (Cost 3K) or should i do Teflon coating for my car?

9) I am planning to install central locking/remote locking from Autocop and 4 door power window also from Autocop. Are there any issues in installing these? Maruti Genuine Accessories from Dealership was costing atlest 50-75% more.

10) I am planning a trip to Mangalore. Can i use my car for the trip, round trip 1800kms. Any issues on using abrand new car for a long trip before first service?

2) How to check if the car has not been driven before.

There’s a fat chance that car wasn’t driven earlier and odo shows 0 (unless unplugged). Just beware of high usage and cross check it through tyres, pedals, carpet etc.

3) Dealership is asking 4k as handling charges. Handling charges were abolished right?

Transport Department of Delhi issued a public notice in 2012. The news eventually disappeared into thin air and dealers still continue to charge it.

5) I conveyed to dealership that i won't need the accessories and their attitude has changed substantially.

Accessories have a huge margin. So I’m not surprised with their attitude. If it is too unpleasant – You must bring it to the attention of respective authorities.

Will they do any sabotage to my car?

No dealer has right to damage or misuse a customer’s car. You can very well file a case if it happens.

6) Does Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire Tour come in metallic white or ordinary white?

It’s a regular white color.

Please confirm whether installation would affect the warranty or not. BTW a member had a poor experience with Autocop (http://www.theautomotiveindia.com/f...p-power-windows-suck-pathetic-experience.html).

10) I am planning a trip to Mangalore. Can i use my car for the trip, round trip 1800kms. Any issues on using abrand new car for a long trip before first service?

No issues at all. Just avoid sudden braking or acceleration / constant speeds and do not over-rev the car. Good luck.

I would like to ask one thing (I could not find it)...
Dont we need to do paint inspection too(may be under sun)..just to make sure paint is not chipped , scrathes, etc.?

This leads to another question..

Does Indian cars have/cover insurance on car paint; What if with in 6 months my paint starts to oxidized, fail etc?
