Hi Figoina / Mahajany,
Was just trying to get the mullah arranged for the LLT. Help me out if you guys recollect the calculation on the From 14.
Invoice Price: 5,28,411.88 ( including VAT & Surcharge )
14% for Car Above 5L and less than 10L = 73,978
87% for Car More than 2 yrs but less than 3 yrs = 64,361
Now is there any Cess added to the amount like 10% or so !!!! ( that would be additional 6436 !!! )
You can never try to get this calculation right. The only way is to get it done by the "Ramanujam" (Superintend) in the RTO office.

Update: Mission "Almost" Accomplished. Yes, had submitted the final set of documents for New KA Number in RTO Office today.

Documents Required:

  1. A Letter, requesting for a new number in KA
  2. Original RC Smart Card (KA one with old MH Number)
  3. Photocopy of RC Smart Card
  4. Photocopy of Insurance
  5. Photocopy of Emission Certificate
  6. File / Folder; Self Addressed Envelope with Stamp of Rs. 17 & Plastic Holder for keeping the original SC (All these are available in any Xerox Shops around there)

Process: (For New KA Number only)

  • Meet the Superintend in the 2nd Floor for signature on the Request Letter along with the Fee Details for SC. The fee is Rs. 400 (327 for SC & 63 for Biometric)
  • Pay the fee (327) at the cash counter and get the receipt. Pay the other fees to the Biometric Counter (Room diagonally opp. to Cash Counter) and get the sticker on the SC Fee Receipt.
  • Meet the same Superintend again get the documents verified.
  • Submit all the documents to the person in the 2nd Floor (Non-Transport Section)
  • Receive the Acknowledgement.

The whole job was done in flat 30 mins, of course with some exercise... Climbing 2 floors up & down several times. However, the experience was much better than the previous times I visited there. The new office is much more spacious and better than the old temporary one.

BTW, Sudeep (sudeep.roy) too joined me for the same work of him. He earlier had paid the Road Tax, but didn't apply for KA SC. His work took little more time as he had to meet the inspector for inspection etc. However, he too had successfully submitted his documents in an hour time. Both left from there with a great relief. It was nice meeting him and spending an hour.

PS: Please ensure you carry the required amount with exact change. I roamed around the entire area to get my 500 buck broken up. Finally, Sudeep helped me. Thanks much to him for that again.

What next? Got to wait for the SC with New KA Number in a month's time. Else, bang in there again, as usual which I am very much expecting to do... [clap]

It was a pleasure meeting you buddy.

Though this is my first post in this thread, but I had subscribed to it quite sometime back and was following it closely.

Long story cut short, after shifting back to Bangalore, I started this process about 8 months back, and after 5 visits to RTO, managed to reach the stage where I had paid the LTT and took the receipt in two months.

After that I just left it at that stage for 6-7 months, I knew that I have paid life time tax to Karnataka and have the receipt, so no cop can fine me. Going to RTO again had become a nightmare.

Finally got connected to Subbu(Figoian) through this thread, got some hope, gathered some courage & decided to take the plunge again. This time it was a bit different as I was equipped with the knowledge shared by Mahajany & Figoian in this thread & I wasn't going alone. [clap] Figoian was one step ahead of me in terms of the process, so it was a lot of help.

So, today morning, we met up in the RTO office & after a cup of chai, decided to go for the kill. Of course there were many queues, many times climbing up & down the steps, going to different rooms for petty things, waiting in some more queues etc. and finally we managed to submit all the forms & documents that I was carrying around for over 8 months...[frustration]. Got an acknowledgement from them which says my KA smart card will reach me within 30 days.
Details of these processes are already well documented by Figoian & Mahajany.

Finally, I don't think I could have got this done without your help Figoian, and without the spot on details shared by Mahajany.

Thank you guys !

Next visit will be after a month, irrespective of if I receive or don't receive the KA SC. [lol]

Thanks Sudeep. We all sail in the same boat... [lol]

I missed to Thank Mahajan in my previous post. His posts were spot on covering every possible details. Thanks much Mahajan.

Mods - I think we should have one Sticky Note on this process for the benefit of all. Please let me know if you need any help in this regard.

Congrats for Your final round in the RTO. Am going for my first round this Saturday along with my wife, have postponed all things on Saturday and have kept the day for running around in RTO. Have all the forms and documents ready. Just praying they take all the documents and there are no delaying or come next week type of work.
@ Figoian: Since am not sure how to arrange the documents and not sure about their way though i will have all my documents, and the first person to encounter will be "Mr. Superintendent" who will calculate the amount and look for the documents. Is there anyone there to help me arrange or check if all the fields are ok on form or what to write on the blank or confused fields. Or do i just take the documents in bunch and give it to him !!!

So now that you have returned the KA SC with MH number, and got the Acknowledgment in return is that like a valid document to drive the car, till you receive your KA SC with KA number.

Unfortunately, there is no such order to arrange the docs and anyone to verify your documents either. Just go, give him all the docs and he will somehow try to say something to hand it back to you. Just don't give up and keep answering/countering for whatever he asks, if you have all of that he is talking about. Eg: He can say, all are OK but go get the file (or) tie the rope (or) where is the self addressed envelope? If you have those handy, you can keep saying "Yes sir, it's here". Remember, "Sir" is very important [lol]

So now that you have returned the KA SC with MH number, and got the Acknowledgment in return is that like a valid document to drive the car, till you receive your KA SC with KA number.
Yeah. That small sweet acknowledgement on a reused paper is good enough, if at all a cop would catch you and ask for anything. I was never ever stopped and asked for any. Even earlier, when I submitted my MH SC and waiting for the KA one, I was with such an acknowledgement paper. No worries... [thumbsup]

( that would be additional 6436 !!! )
Hey,
Sorry I'm a bit late in replying - hope that you have done the things by now. The LTT - or in fact, LTT for remaining life of the car was calculated on Form-14 - by RTO official himself, and in red-ink...

--> It is calculated on total price - i.e. cost (including the discounts) + VAT, and KA tax is 13% http://rto.kar.nic.in/KMVTA 2010.pdf- ( my vehicle was < 5L)

---> Here's the calculation for my car:
Cost of my car - X (= Cost without discount + VAT - what you paid ) - they got it from the invoice I had shown them.

1. KA Tax rate: 13% ( cost < 5L)
2. Tax in KA - 75% (4 to 5 years old at the time of entry - ref. KMVTA 2010, page 4 and 5)
3. Cess: 11%.
4. Net amount: X* 0.13 *0.75* 1.11
5. Penalty....12% of net amount, %age not give, calculated, I was late in going to RTO. Got my NOC in May'12, and went there in March'13.

Final amount I needed to shell out was (1.125 * x ) * 0.13 * 0.75 * 1.11 * 1.12

12.5 - service tax or what?? Actually I didn't go there myself for tax-calculation - got it through an "agent" :(. Later on when I went and asked about taxes, that why discount is included and VAT, a tax too is being taxed, the gentleman there, with a very smiling face, told me to go the courts as although he agreed with each single of my word, but couldn't do anything as it was the "rule". Being the court-avoiding citizen of my country, I preferred to stand in the queue and pay.

Also it looks like that the calculation remains valid for a month - as in my case first thing he looked was that date against calculations and signatures was in March or not.

:)

Hey good to see your comment. Would like to thank you for your detailed description of the process and more over it was you who inspired me to do the Re-registration done without an agent. Well tomorrow is my D day. Am just collection all possible documents and more over my luck seems to leave at the very moment. this month is our last month as per the rent agreement and since the car is in my wife's name, she has her name on the LPG connection thats one document for address proof, second is the agreement its in both our name. Went to the RTO today for the second time, went to make a renewed rent agreement. These 2 r there as an address proof. Lets see what MR.S will say, as figoian suggested take all possible documents and try and not to leave if he says X is missing or so and more important " Yes Sir".
Secondly we have to visit ICICI bank for the DD to be made hope Mr.S dsnt get us late to go hopefarm junction and then back return to submit.
I still dont get the calculation as i mentioned on my earlier post. who ever i consulted was giving his own gyan on Road tax and the Indian Govt. system. I was even told why did u go to Bangalore !!. Since we could not zero on the exact amount we were not sure how to manage and how much to spare or even a round about.
if am not wrong i am somewhat 75% close to the amount right !
Plan for tomorrow take wife along and why not my 18 month son am sure he will raise hell and can get my work done faster [lol]

Maybe when you see this post, you might have already been back...

My sincere advice would be to visit Mr. S first, get the tax calculated and verify the documents. Then visit again with all the DD for the right amount and all documents for submission. All in one day, that too on Saturday is quite tough.

BTW, there is a SBI near the RTO Office. Take left at the junction little ahead, you may find it on the right side.

Went to the RTO today ..... overall good experience and back by some knowledge which you guys gave it was smooth. Well for me some things went out of alignment from Friday evening. Had went to the RTO yesterday as the rent agreement for the house got expired this month, so since mahajan told that rent agreement can be made there thought of visiting the RTO and get it done since might need it for some other purpose too. It rained nicely in evening and could not get out of house. Took us some time to fill the form since there were couple of fields which we were not sure what to write plus we had our 18 month old son running around and had to manage his not ruining the extra fragile paper of RTO !!! It twas then that my wife told that the rent agreement is dated a year back !!!!
D Day: Again late thought of reaching there by 10, but reached RTO by 11:10 .... i was shocked by the scene that greeted me, there were an ocean of People ... all pretty young guys .... reminded me of enterence exams ....... I told myself not today please whats going on. Later after fixing the agreement later came to know they were young aspirant future driver's . Cash counter was overflowing that time.... to my surprise there was help desk counter.
Encounter with Mr.S: told my wife to be in line, there was a paper pasted on the glass stating what all document is need, just placed all the paper in the brown file and gave it him. Address proof as i though would be a problem and it was, he gave the rent agreement copy and said its a rent agreement !!!! yes, we stay in rent .... would need electricity bill ... We dint get one ... wife told her that its rented apartment, he said fine dsn't matter. He turned GOOD and said what do you have for address, my wife was carrying a letter form the company for letter proof. He said happily " Kodie". He stapled and arranged the documents and told what to do next and also said make an affidavit and get the electricity bill too later. Data entry also done. Now was the time consuming going all the way to ITPL ( closest ICICI bank, as we both have account with them ).
DD made .. yipee . Time 12:35 ... We lost it ... but still we went on back to RTO.

This is the HIT part.
Since our parent were curious what the amount is WHY ??. On the way back we just check how actually the calculation was made ..... Mr.S .. u went wrong on calculation by Rs.1000 !!!!!! yes he made an addition wrong. How can he !!!. We discussed that he will take the DD and might refund the amount .. bla bla ( we tried all possible permutation and combination of out situation and how wrong things can go wrong ). Once back i ran for Xerox and told my wife to tell him that hia addition is wrong. My wife cam back smiling ... saying Monday is our next Kill date. Phew !! Mr.S said sorry and make the correction on Form 14. He even suggested that nothing can be done today and better get a new DD made as he could adjust the remaining payments to be made from that excess amount. But he said that we wont be getting the remaining from the RTO, so better make a new one and " Madam, you dont have to trouble, just send someone on Monday i will sign the paper !!!"
Well a long post. Here is the serious part. My calcualtion was right. please see the pic of the From 14. I hope people who will follow this post can have look at the calculation.

Invoice its nothing but the Ex-Showroom price leave aside what ever discount tax, vax, surcharge ... need not touch all that
As i posted the my calcualtion before:
Ex Showroom Price : 5,28,412
5L @ 14% : 7,3978
2-3 yr : 6,4361
Cess @ 11% : 7080
Tax : 71,441

At last done with phase One. Paid the tax today. We were planning to be there before the cash counter line swelled. We reached the RTO before the Gates were opened !!!. First thing Submitting the DD ( Days first collection to the Bangalore RTO ) , Biometric !! Its just a small stamp as it you were buying a postal stamp. Done with payments ... Now Mr.S ... as we had to submit the Affidavit and Electricity bill .... time 10:10... When did Mr.S come 11:00 ( some new hire orientation was going on i guess ) 2 min at the counter, he directed us to get the vehicle inspected. Ground Floor IMV room, there was line as new aspirant driver were mugging up the road signs !!!!. One the guys there when asked we said it was for Vehicle inspection .. he said stand next to your vehicle someone will come ... ( but how will you know which car )... we tried to communicate with the guard / Khakhi dressed guy ... who will come and when and where to go ? ( in hindi ) .. the guard " bla bla " it was kanada. NO kanada, for this he gave a nice smile and just said a words in hindi "udhar". Later had to get the car in front of the RTO gate in the service lane where i saw an VI coming ( he reminded me more the actor who played the roe of ravana in Ramayana.. the old version one ). I opened the bonnet for him to look at the number .. to my surprise he told me to read out the chassis number !!! Done back to the IMV room the guy signed sealed and go to 2nd Floor. It took about 10 min. 2nd floor there was a lady ( guess she was the ARTO !! ) took the file 2-3 min we had the acknowledgment in hand.

Anyone who is planning to get their vehicle re-registered. Please go and get the thing one your own 5-6K is a waste of money and if you take out the waiting time its just hardly an hours process minus the time to get the DD made. Get the Froms and the file/ploy bag/ envelop/ tag a day before plan to get the work done.
- Get all possible documents related to address proof, for those who have their own house fine, but for guys like us living on rented, a rent agreement, affidavit, electricity bill, water bill ( as we were asked to submit the electricity bill ... may be it was to verify the address is not fake, we remember we were asked to produce one last year when we got our LPG connection transferred ) a letter from Company stating your address ... any thing with your address on it or something showing the address exist's.
- Once you start your process you will automatically get the direction as to what to do next.
- Most Important everyone would have different experience long wait time/ queue/ getting additional document ( like mahajan case Mr.S dint accept the letter from Company for address )
__ Most Important "Luck" and " What has to happen, will happen. But if has not to happen, do what ever you want to it will not" this is the maha mantra before you step in to the RTO.

Once again Figoian Thanks for the thread and sharing your experience and comments. A million thanks to Mahajany for the detailed description. Thanks guys for getting this thing done on our own rather than spending money on agents

Most welcome buddy. Glad to see one more successful DIY Enthusiast for RTO work.

It's just not only about saving some penny for self, but most importantly cutting down the bribes and discouraging middlemen / agents wherever possible.

I am hopeful that will have more & more joining us. Soon, we will document the whole process for the betterment of many.

So, here am I – again waiting for a new RC.
BTW Mahajan, ain't it time now? Coincidentally, it's 30 days by today... [:D] Time to visit them again ah?

Hey mate...Will go this Saturday between 3:30 and 4:30 :) Hoping that all my documents were alright and that I'll be returning with a new registration-mark....then too the work won't end there...get new licence plate, pollution-check, getting insurance updated...and finally, start working for reimbursement of tax paid at Delhi![roll]

True... Got to do all that, but I am sure a lot easier than the RTO work.

Reimbursement... That's a million dollar question. Anyways, let's try that as well. [thumbsup]

Yes, they do work for the whole day on a Saturday as well. Office remains open till 5, but cash-counter closes early at 12 (...whereas 2 or 2:30 is the time for other days); except on a 2nd Saturday which is a complete holiday.
