Got the Shark Fin antenna today [:)]
However the base of the antenna is flat and the city roof has a slight curve to it,
Because of this it does not fit flat on the roof, one side remains slightly raised.
The seller suggests using the 3M tape to bridge the gap, but I think that would spoil the appearance.
Any suggestions?

I feel that you have purchased one from some other seller and not the one I suggested as below:

You have no other choice except to carve a black rubber layer, paste it with double side tape to fill up the gap;but still it won't have perfect finish. Or better, buy one from where I purchased.

Dr. sir given very clear instruction for the same, i have also installed on my car but gap is marginally less. In your pics it seems to be huge.
Get stool or something like that and press down that antenna on roof and hold it for a while so it can stick with roof perfectly. (if required install new 3M tape for proper fitment.)

Yes I actually purchased this one earlier. But it never reached me for over 70 days. Hence AliExpress and the seller processed a refund for me.

The product finally reached me yesterday but the seller had shipped the wrong piece than what was ordered. The antenna hole is too small to accommodate the antenna base on the car. The shape and size was different from what was shown in the listing. I informed the seller and he admitted that they may have been a mistake, But since the seller has already refunded the money it makes no sense contesting the equipment that he has sent. (photos attached below)

In the meanwhile I ordered this other shark fin which is supposed to be specially designed for the Honda City (and at nearly $30 costs significantly more too). The seller assured that the quality was much better than the other ones on sale so I took his word. When I see both units side by side I can definitely vouch for the quality but alas, since it doesn't have the perfect fit I guess I'll just have to return it.

My hunt for the perfect antenna continues. I guess I'll try and reorder from your link once more.

The gap is actually not as large as it looks in the pictures
I have shot the frame in the way that the gap looks slightly exaggerated for easy understanding of what I was trying to convey.

When I press down on both sides together the gap is less than a couple of mm at most on any one side, but I was afraid that if I put another layer of 3M tape and stick it with pressure it might just come out after some time.

I'll have a word with the seller and try and negotiate a deal.
If he agrees to accept a return after a few days incase the antenna does not stick on correctly I'll give it a go.
In any case he provides a 1 year warranty on the product and also pays for return shipping incase you raise a dispute or are not happy with the product within 10 days of its receipt.

I understand the difficult times that you underwent. Unfortunately it occurs to everyone sometimes. Thank God, Aliexpress is now a days is very good in effecting refund if not satisfied.
Yes technically this antenna is very good. You try one more thing … buy a NIPPON Deer brand black double side tape and add extra layers neatly in the front to fill up that gap as it won’t be much visible and will merge with your black color and also look neat. 3M is grey color, though the best, will spoil the look over the visible thick layer. One thing, this antenna is not specially designed for ANHC, advertisement is misleading. Even the one we bought is also universal type and there is some micro gap as HaruH said, if you look close.

That was excellent piece of advise Dr.
Something that I had completely overlooked

My friend owns an accessories shop in pune. He generally uses the Nippon Black Tape. I'll borrow some from him.

But before that let me try and reposition the antenna differently to see if I can reduce the gap even further.

In my excitement that the antenna had come I took some time off from office to check it out, so, for lack of time, I don't think I have tried all positions properly.

Unless it does sit firmly on the roof surface I'll postpone the installation till sunday. That's when I shall have enough time to ensure it is done as perfectly as possible.

Thanks again for the advise.

The fact that you can't physically see the product before buying is what makes online purchase slightly tricky. Especially from China where it takes so long to reach you and return is not all that simple. That's the sole reason I am taking as much advise from you all before I purchase the LED

PS: Philips has introduced T10 projector lamps (55 lumen for parking bulb replacements) in India for an exorbitant price of Rs.1500/- a pair.

Why don't you try the Shark fin antenna from New Honda City 2014? I think that the body design will be almost similar to the earlier generation city.
I did give it a go since I know the owner of the Honda showroom in Pune quite well.

However the design is completely different and not compatible with the 2008-2013 models.

It is quite slim and does not have room inside to accommodate the antenna base of our cars.

Very nice blog Dr Mudhan. This morning, I was looking to mod a few things in my Honda City 2011 (White) and visited this site for the first time. Thanks to you I reached office 1:30 hours late today as couldn't stop myself reading the posts [:)]

I have a quick question, does this shark fin antenna hugs the roof perfectly or it will leave any gap in between ? I have this small doubt as the roof portion is not totally flat. Waiting to hear from you.

Dear ravib
You guessed it right. I am really interested in alloys & upsizing the tyres. But…no no not now [;)], let it complete two years, my warranty period.
Regarding your interest over shark fin antenna, you will get here what you like & want:

I sent the photos to the seller showing the gap in the morning.
He first insisted that everyone needs to put 2 way tape on both sides.
I told him if that was the case they should have put the tapes and sent it.
Also since he has listed it for the Honda City there should be no gaps.

Just received an email from him saying they went through their stock records and they have shipped another car antenna to me. He was willing to give a full refund without returning the product. I told him I want the antenna and not the money, so he's re-shipping me another antenna today. Another 30 day wait but hopefully this should fit better onto the roof.

It depends on which one you order. Most of the universal ones will have a slight gap as the curvatures on all car roofs are different.

Dr Mudhan will be able to give better insignt into the one he has ordered.

I have ordered This one because it was slightly better quality (but does cost significantly higher too) but the seller dispatched a wrong unit to me. He is re-shipping a new unit free of cost today.

Glad to hear. I was about to reply your email but your problem is almost solved. Thanks to Dr. Mudhan. However, I haven't bought the shark fin antenna so couldn't help you out.

As a DIY'er, I advice you to sand the bottom of the shark fin (using filing tool) to match the curve of the car roof then use new 3m tap and fix the antenna. After all, seller is sending a new shark fin and it doesn't matter what you do with the present antenna.

Sorry to ask so many questions but I am super excited right now [:)]

How did you find the below dome light? Does it fit fine inside the dome light area ?
Yes it does but you have to use thin 3m tap rather then what is provided with the SMD panel.

You can also do what I have done, check this out.
