As far as I know, that black and yellow body paint disappeared long time ago. And there are no more taxis in Chennai or Bangalore. They are now called call taxies and they can be of any color..
IN Blr its not present. But in Chennai the Taxi with yellow and black paint still exist. The Ambassador cars from Airport all run in this paint combo. Other than that the Call taxis(mostly Omnis, indicas) are operated by Fast track , Meru etc..

@ Rudolf. Do they still have a meter like the taxis used to have before or is it some sort of prepaid type? When I meant taxis, I meant the ones you can flag down anywhere and get in and go and pay according to the meter. Metered taxis like Autos are not there anymore, right?

BTW, haven't used my car for the last one week. Lots of work on tight schedule. So, I am working from home.

Using my old bike more theses days for dropping and picking up my wife from the bus stop.

Tools and useful stuff I carry in my car.

Hydraulic jack - Though 2 tons is ok far a car, I got a 3 ton jack. It comes with 2 detachable extension tubes, which needs to be fixed for leverage. They also supply spare O'rings. along with it.

My foot pump is kind of flimsy. but on 3 occasions, I was able to use it and it helped. I am thinking of buying a heavy duty foot pump.

The tubeless tyre puncture kit is really handy and I have already used it once.

I keep a non branded duster which I can use when I go on trips. I also keep a couple of window shades that I use on long trips.
I still haven't got a rubber boot mat for Manza. So I have spread all the mats of my old zen in the boot.[frustration]

The jack, air pump, puncture kit and the spare highlight bulbs fit in the spare wheel well.

I have a box of tissue and a couple of foldaway umbrellas which come in handy on trips to hill stations and also in Bangalore city, where it rains quite often.

I also carry a car multi-charger and a usb converter. And a foldable hand fan.

I also have a cool dynamo type flash light, which has a high, low and blink control. Never run out of battery with this, as a few turns of the foldable handle generates electricity.

3 ton Hydraulic jack = 550 rs

Foot pump = 100/150 rs. Not sure. Bought it at a Trade fair in Chennai.

Tubeless puncture kit = 400 rs. Got it in Chennai 3 years back, when I changed to tubeless for my zen. used only one strip. still have 4 remaining.

Window blinds = 100 rs

Multi charger = 120 rs

USB adaptor = 100 rs

Duster, got it in some supermarket. Nothing special. Don't remember the price.

Hand fan = 60 rs.

Torch? Got it as a gift with my citizen eco-drive watch[:D]

Though this pump works fine, I would recommend you to buy a heavy duty pump. I am planning to. Not that this pump is not effective, but being light and flimsy, tends to move while we pump and takes more pumps to fill a tyre. For 600 Rs or so, we can get good sturdy pumps.

Hand fan? If you have to wait a long time, like I do for my wife, I thought it will be useful. Frankly I have not used it even once. I am looking for a battery operated rechargeable fan that I can use in the car while waiting.

@HR, it's an awesome 'handle charging feature' loved it. Umbrella is a must have thing, I prefer to keep it inside passeger cabin.
How much efforts are required for the air pump while filling up?
I do not see any reason to get frustrated on the mat part, I won't mind spreading old bedsheets in side the boot, in my car.

@ auto safari, how about going for ' puncture/tyre protector gel' ?

Hand fan is useful when the car is parked, and someone is sitting idle inside, also helpful in expelling mosquitoes , flies.IMO.

Quite a lot of effort. As you can see, it is a very small pump and so more that 300 odd pumps, (at least it seemed like), were required to fill up to 32 psi from 0 psi, for Manza tyre. But, it is really handy.

Once, on a long trip, I had a puncture, (it was noticed only the next morning), and I just pumped air and drove on the highway around 180 kms, to our relatives place. In the evening I took the car to a puncture wala and got the puncture fixed.

300!!!.

Then I should opt for electric pump.

Saw one (with additional things like a flash light, red hazard warning light etc) for Rs 800. They said another one which is smaller is available for Rs 450.

With tubeless tyres, we can just fill up and drive for long before fixing the puncture.

In my case it became too long (almost 6000 km)

Don't know much about it. And as mentioned above, we need not worry much about puncture with tubeless tyres unless it is a serious puncture. In such cases too, we have the spare tyre.

Tornado,

After seeing various posts of Highway Ranger, I was wondering whether he found some unique application of hand fans.

Now its clear. A real proactive thinking.

Be careful about the electric pumps. I was about to buy one and luckily another guy, who was also interested, had his car parked next to the shop. So, we took the pump to the car and switched it on. It worked. I just closed the air hose to see if any pressure was building up and the dam thing just blew off (stopped working). When we, showed it to the shop keeper, he asked his assistant to throw it and told us, jokingly, that these products were just use and throw.

Seriously, I need a fan (a battery operated one), as I have to wait for around 30 to 45 minutes some days for my wife. Otherwise I have to go home and then come back again. I dont want to keep the AC/car running and in Bangalore just a fan will do. Been searching online. Didn't find one that suited my purpose. I also do not want to fix a permanent fan in the car.

The foot pump is reliable. You can get a heavy duty one for around 600 rs. Then, you would not have to pump so much.

Closing the air hose completely , while the pressure is building up, should ideally blow off the equipment. Obviously making it irreparable .

Come on, Tornado, it wasn't as if I was holding back great pressure. You need at least some pressure to pump air. And that pressure has to be more than 32 psi. It blew up at a much less pressure.

Any way if the equipment does not come with a high pressure cutout it is not safe.

It works with a plunger what moves to and fro powered by an electromagnet. It is not effective.

Ideally, the manufacturer should follow the simple physics rule mentioned by you. It seems that it was really hopeless pump.

I have got a digital air inflator(with warranty), works on mobile charger point, It worked nicely at the time of purchase . I didn't used it afterwards. But now onwards, I will use and post the feedback.
