Re: My Manza Aura ABS QJet - Truly a Breed Apart

Last evening I had been to Hosur to pick up my wife. When we were returning around 6:60 pm, there was a heavy downpour and the Chandhapura Rail under bridge was flooded. There was a traffic jam for around half a kilometers and the traffic was moving at snail pace.

Usually if there is deep water logging on the roads, I usually keep up my momentum and keep going at the lower gears 1/2 depending upon the depth of water and speed.

Yesterday, the water logging was more than a foot deep and had to inch my way at such slow pace, due to the traffic and had my engine raised to above 2500 rpm and praying that car should not stall. There were a few cars stalled, one maruti omni in the middle of the pool of water, and hell of a lot of bikes stranded. Very bad scene.

Deep water logging near Hebbagoodi and in other small stretches made life hell for the bikers, Many of whom were doing all sorts of things to get their bike started.

It is too sad Bangalore roads cannot withstand half and hour of heavy rain. That too, on a toll road.
Its really sad situation to see water logging in toll roads.

Its good to hear that you have not stalled. Its a horrible condition if our vehicle stall in that water.[cry]

I have faced a similar situation two months ago. Water logging was 1 foot and for a stretch of 1 km. It was my first experiance in such deep and long stretch of water. Some how managed to negotiate my Manza through the stretch in 2nd/1st gears and rising the rpm high.

@autosafari

My fog lamps got flooded and there is still some water inside both of them. But they are working.

Due to the flooding I also found another thing about Manza. I had always wanted to fit a chrome plated end to my exhaust pipe. But I found that Manza's exhaust pipe does not extend till the bumper and is curved downwards.

Also saw a Manza with full body skirting and spoilers. Looked great.

@ THE XOVER
Good to have metro in Bangalore. But unfortunately, It does not help me in any way. My daily route and the metro's route do not cross at any point.

Re: My Manza Aura ABS QJet - Truly a Breed Apart

17750 km update

It has been a little over 9 months, and have been loving every moment with it.

True, I have visited the service station more times than I would have liked to. But always came out smiling apart from the initial couple of visits to Concorde, Dairy circle. Now I know most of the service persons in Prerana, by first name basis and get fast attention and express service.

Have enjoyed long drives, high speed chases, sedate driving and Manza is really fun to drive. Some of my friends, one drives a ANHC, another a Ford Icon and one a Innova, have driven my car and really liked it.

As far as the handling of the car is concerned, in city, I use the car like I used my previous Zen. Initially I used to drive sedately, but slowly my older style of driving took over and started enjoying the pickup this car had to offer. (driving in the power band). In spite of this being a sedan I can easily stay ahead of the traffic by taking advantages of the gaps in the flow of traffic.

In the highway, I had been surprised by manza’s handling twice.

Once in Tirunelveli, when I was overtaking a private bus at low speed (around 40 kms in third gear), the bus driver unknowingly crowded me off the road. I had 2 right wheels on the sand off the road shoulder which was about half a feet high and by the time the bus driver realized the issue and steered left there were oncoming traffic. I just floored the pedal and got out of the sand and got to the left ahead of the bus with sufficient space for the oncoming traffic. It was really a tight situation and Manza handled it well.

The second one was while returning to Bangalore from Chennai and was nearing Krishnagiri, happly cruising around 120, when a Maruti 800, decides to take a U-turn coming from krishnagiri. I was on the right most lane and the yellow railings on the median hid the oncoming maruti. This guy turns into half way inside my lane and then stops to look around. I had to swerve to my left and back to my lane in a fraction of second and then again Manza just did it without a murmur. The best part was that I didn’t have to brake and continued on the same speed.

Repairs so far

Replacement of the AC fresh air inlet damper/motor assembly ( done in one hour, but the paper work took another hour)

Replacement of the front power windows control switch assembly (could not roll up the rear left glass from the drivers control switch – but worked fine with the switch on it’s door) (done in one hour)

Front suspension tie rod rubber bush assembly replaced. (done during service)

One minor tick tick sound that was irritating even while driving on smooth roads. Had to visit the service station twice to get it done.

FE with my style of driving

City average 15+ with sparing use of AC (around 20%)

Highway average 20+ with 100% AC

Overall Verdict

Great car, Value for Money, Great features, Great space, Good pickup, Good drivability, Good FE.

All cars have their share of niggles, as you can see in some threads here. Tata cars are no exception. TASS is improving and more often than not, I come out smiling from their service station.

BTW, In my earlier Zen, the only things I changed was the head unit for my ICE, Battery after 4 years, and tyres after 5 years.
But then it was a rattle snake even the speakers used to.

Do I regret selling my Zen and buying Manza? Hell NO! I love every moment with it.

@ THE XOVER, a mere test drive alone does not bring out the qualities of the car. The new version also has some improvement over the older versions. Glad you liked it.

Waiting for your ownership review of your dream Aria.

Very true but "first impression is last impression they say" and manza elan bowled me there, i was literally stumped by how good this car really is.To tell you the truth my brother and my friend who also took the test drive of manza with me are die hard Safari fans but they were stunned as well on how good driver's car manza really is.They had this impression that manza is primary a chauffer driven car they never thought that it could be so fast and also would handle so well. What more i can say ,you are experiencing it on a daily basis.[thumbsup]

Re: My Manza Aura ABS QJet - Truly a Breed Apart

Hey, I have a strange problem now. I have steering vibration between speeds 110 to 120kmph only. Thought it was a wheel balancing issue and balanced all wheels but still the problem persists. There is no pulling to left or right. Has anyone faced this problem any solution.

Regards,
Sandeep

Had done Wheel Alignment once and balancing twice in past 500kms. There is steering shaking and bit of car vibration too.

Did you show it to the service station? Usually they have ready remedy for Manza, as they have improved some of the components for the newer models and so they replace them without a fuss.

They changed tie rod bushes for my car saying that they have redesigned bushes.

BTW, I am thinking, if I should go for their AMC for 4 years/50000kms. It is supposed to cover everything other than battery, tyres and accidental repairs.

Re: My Manza Aura ABS QJet - Truly a Breed Apart

AMC is Annual Maintenance Contract. Tata has introduced it for some of it's cars. Manza has it. Not sure about Indica. I can find out next time I visit the workshop.

The cost of the AMC varies depending upon the years and kms opted for. The max is 4years/50000kms.

Like I said earlier, everything other than Battery, Tyres, Weights for wheel balancing, and accidental repairs are totally free.

The AMC includes the suspension, clutch, gearbox, turbo, regular services, Oil, filters and any other part like the power window motor, brake pads, etc.

So it means that if my car is covered under AMC, then I get the engine oil change at free:biggrin:, great work tata [cheers]

EDIT: What's the cost of AMC ?
