here is the gear lock, the male part of the lock has a spring on the top which makes a slight noise on extremely bumpy surfaces. the 3rd pic shows the female part which i call snap where u place the lock while driving. The noise is caused because of the spring. Adding a layer of thread should solve this issue.

crossed 1500 kms today. While driving was a slight drag and I could feel something is not right. Checked the tyre pressure and yes they were low. Now the car is back to its zippy best.

mileage is hovering between 12.0 to 20.8 depending on the drive. Off late driving has been more in bumper to bumper with ac on. Planned along trip on diwali where i will revv the engine again. lets see the mileage then. Atlease its much better than the 6/7 which i got in my S10 :p:

Thanks nitin for detail demonstration of gear lock.
You are getting good mileae figures,i remember my i10 used to give me 9 km/l in city roads & jumps to 16 on long highway trips.

Nitin,

My brio V(mt) showed mileage of 8.5km/L, which is defnly poor.
I tend to use the clutch a lot, since the roads near my home are very poor and have narrow cornerz.

Is there some tips that u can share to get around the mileage issue?
I have a feeling the number mentioned on the dash is wrong, but of course ihave no idea

initially FE will be poor. let the engine get some running. also your driving style matters a lot. -1 OR - 2 is what the actual FE will be.

Let go the practice of using the clutch too often. That alone will help boost the FE.

I got the delivery of my BRIO SMT in April'12. intitally the FE used to hover between 9-10. After the 1st free service, it shot to 13-14.

The FE is quite mercurial, tho the best in its class. Driving in a city like Mumbai, even a figure of 12 seems Oscar winning. One fine day, on a long highway run (25kms / moderate traffic / AC on) the car sported an average of 25.2. A rare phenomena that, still waiting for history to repeat.

The FE will flare up as the routine servicing is done and as it clocks miles. Dont even compare the FE with a dud like Hyundai or a cheapster like Maruti [glasses] No offence [;)]

  • keep you car well maintained / follow service cycles.
  • keep correct air pressure and wheel alignment.
  • switch off ac whenever not needed.
  • Turn the engine off if you’ll be sitting at traffic lights for longer than 10 - 15 seconds.
  • use clutch only when shifting gears, it is a general tendency to keep it pressed.
  • drive in the right gear - technically you should drive in the rpm range of highest torque but generally 1800-2400 rpm is good.
  • some of us either revv up too much on lower gears or drive slow on high gears - both are bad habits and kill FE.
  • Try and drive maximum in the eco mode.

the more you drive , the more you will understand the engine and your new car.

25kms, wow????????? totally unheard of
Even chevy beat, gives like 24kms on hi-ways.

No offence taken 4 either Maruti/Hyundai LOLL [lol]
Driving those stupid vehicles (with manual steering), gave me massive shoulder pain.

I will wait for the 1st service, but i reckon its atleast 2 months away. I just got my car on Tues

Yeah, as said earlier, I haven't seen the car sport FE of 25 again [:)]

I drive mostly in the city, and that too quite rarely. Prefer to bike around when I am alone.

Since ur car is fresh outta d oven, give it some time. Nitin has shared some wonderful suggestions. Stick to those.

Try driving ur car on the highway most of the times. Will reduce the use of clutch automatically.

U have bought urself a super car. Trust me, the FE worries stay inititally. the more you drive, the more you'll love this baby, the more you'll forget abt the FE (which'll still b the best in its class) [:D]
