cost of ownership

following this thread for a while now. visited the dealership in Delhi. Looks are great. rear space is a bit cramped. not a problem, i will be on front seat always[;)] got an offer of 4.60 for smt. but that was before the price hike.

before i make up my mind for going for this car brio SMT, i would request a feedback on the following

a. what is the cost of ownership. My main concern is the regular servicing charges. heard from my friends that except maruti everyone charges a hell.

b. how much would the gear lock, central locking and parking sensors cost approx in Delhi.
c. how does this car compare with figo.

I plan to buy in the coming month. What type of discounts should i look forward to during December. my car becoming a 2012 model just a month later is not of much concern.
Thanks

welcome to TAI rikku :)

a) Honda is aware of the perception people have wrt maintenance cost. As a result that has introduced a Honda Care Maintenance Package (HCMP) for about 9.9k for 2 years where everything with respect to service is covered. This includes oil change etc so you do not have to pay extra for anything. so now you have 2 years warranty + 2 years extended warranty ( paid option or you can bargain it as freebees) + this new HCMP for 2 yrs or 40k kms whichever occur first. In short you are not paying for anything for 2 years.

b) These accessories would be better off if bargained in your deal itself. Honda is desperate to clear its old inventories and you can get a killer deal if you buy the non electronic ORVM S model.

c) I have driven a figo before, diesel one to be precise and hated the looks and the car lacked punch. Resale value of american cars is a major turn off. In petrol i doubt any hatch in this segment can match the futuristik looks + vtec engine of Honda.

I estimate the actual cost involved to be only about 8k if you do not take the service pack. As per a Honda executive the cost of service (incl. oil) is about Rs.2100. So three paid services (12, 18 and 24 months) are Rs.6300.

Add two oil changes (3 and 6 months) at the free service - Max.1700

So total cost Rs.8000!

I have found Honda service remarkably inexpensive. Honda service is definitely cheaper than Hyundai. Rates are about the same, but no additional charges like Injector Cleaning, this and that spray, pressure for a decoke and radiator flush, etc.

Thank you for shedding light on this topic. Was eager to know abt the same.

Honda offers 2 Free Services (1st Month/1000kms & 6th Month/10000kms). My queries on the services, both free and paid, were;

1) Are the oils (engine, brake, steering, etc.) changed during the free services (both) without charging anything extra??

2) After the free services are exhausted, what should be the duration/interval between the next services in terms of months/kms covered??

3) Also, do you recommend going for the HCMP or it'd be economical even without it??

Hi Santoclauz
Since my Brio's 2nd service is over, I can tell you that they do charge for engine oil. The SE told me that servicing should be done within 6 months interval in order to keep your warranty intact. Regarding the 3rd question, I guess sgiitk has already answered.

i was told they do tyre rotation/alignment/balancing as well in the 2nd service. maybe ways to extract money. or was it only rotation.

today realized that the ORVM's rotate 180 degrees, initially mine were very hard and i never tried extending them fully. Today while driving i realized the left ORVM is not fully open, so i opened the window while driving the car and pushed it back from the drivers seat. To my surprise it went fully back. I was like WTF! Is there an act of vendetta on my car

when i stopped i found that the 180 degree was a normal feature :p:

even i cant see where the front of the car ends. [glasses]

during night time, switch on the head light and then play with the adjusters. Basically they alter the throw of the light from bottom to top.

The headlight adjuster is meant for this only.

im guessing its the small thing protruding out, on the headlite/Indicator stick.

the 1-2-3 thing is only to adjust the beam strength i guess?
yeah, but that is what i think are the headlight adjusters , below the air flow vents.
and they are present in all variants, or am i missing something ?

no wonder, with sales picking up and people not getting the colors they want, seems exports is the reason.

Honda ships Brio to SA; may make Noida facility export hub

MUMBAI: Honda Cars India, which today shipped the first lot of 390 units of its locally-made hatchback Brio to South Africa, said it may make the Noida facility as an export hub for some of the models.

It rolls out around 2,500 Brios a month. "The expansion of our export business is the first step towards developing India as another hub for export of certain models. I think this market has a lot of potential to be an export hub for us," Honda Cars India President and Chief Executive Hironori Kanayama told reporters here.

The locally-made Brio is the first model exported to South Africa by Honda India, he said, adding the first tranche of 390 cars is a significant milestone.

"We will export over 1,600 Brios to South Africa and SADC (South African Development Community) countries by next March," he said.

The SADC bloc include Tanzania, Kenya, Mauritius and the Seychelles, company's Senior Vice-President Jnaneswar Sen said.

Sen said the Brio, which is rolled out from the company's Great Noida plant has 90 percent localisation.

In the past 14 years, the company has exported a total of 1,028 cars, including the City, Jazz and Accord, to the Saarc region. It has now added Brio to the export portfolio.

The Brio is set to go on sell in South Africa in early December and it will be sold through Honda Motor Southern Africa dealers and through its distributors in SADC countries.

Sen added that the company plans to roll out an entry level sedan, which will be built on the Brio platform, and a new CRV, premium SUV, next fiscal to expand its portfolio from here.

"We are developing entry level sedan from the Brio platform with both petrol and diesel variants. A new CRV will also be launched next fiscal," Sen said without divulging any timeline.

Honda sells the popular sedan City, mid-segment Civic, premium sedan Accord, entry level hatchback Jazz and Brio, apart from the premium SUV Honda CRV in the domestic market.
