Re: My Beautiful Beast Punto MJD 1.3 - 10,500 Kms Update

Sorry to hear about the incidence, I feel its better you give the car to the ASC only as they can do a better job than your neighbourhood garage, Since your colour is very rare i don't think any Garage can do justice when it comes to repainting.

Thanks for the response guys. The reason I asked the question was, that I was not sure about the ability of guys at TASS. But then I think so, I have to go with them only. [:)]

Really sad to see your Punto this way. Even a minute scratch hurts, so this would've hurt you bad. Sometimes even I feel that the rear visibility is too low. Get it fixed fast and do upload pics after you repair. [:)]

Sorry to see this happen. A simple tip - be very very slow when you are reversing. REALLY slow.

Now, coming to your question, since the damage is so much and since the colour is unique, I would recommend getting this repaired at the A.S.S., unless you know a very competent guy.

I have given my car to a person (which by the way is near to Fortune) and he did an amazing job in my car. But in my case, it was just a scratch. Also, he does computerized paint mixing. The results were simply superb. Again my car is white which is easy to mix.

Re: My Beautiful Beast Punto MJD 1.3 - 10,500 Kms Update

Today morning I gave car to TASS for second free service. The body shop guy looked at the damage and said they need to replace entire boot with only rear glass original and I have to claim for Insurance.

So waiting for tomorrow to check whether insurance claim is sanctioned or not.[thinking]

Entire boot has to be replaced ??? [surprise]Are you sure about it? Seeing at the pics, I thought a dent removal and repaint process should be enough! How come they are suggesting changing the entire boot? Is the damage so bad?

Re: My Beautiful Beast Punto MJD 1.3 - 10,500 Kms Update

If I was in your place, I would have claimed insurance and changed the boot. That is the reason I pay premiums! Why not use them... Check if you can forgo the no claim bonus.

The damage, though not big, has covered almost half of the boot. So why not get it changed?

He said that the frame inside the boot is also damaged. So have to do that. But one thing is he said frame is damaged only by looking at the dent. [roll]

I enquire about the same, SE said I will loose 20% no claim bonus. [confused]

Re: My Beautiful Beast Punto MJD 1.3 - 10,500 Kms Update

Sorry to hear about this mishap, dharmesh!
On a lighter note, I'm very glad that your wife took it sportively without going gaga over your driving abilities. It's also very nice of her to take it in her strides.
About the boot replacement, it's the common practice for the SEs to suggest to change the entire unit (be it a door, or bonnet, etc.,) because it's much easier for them to do painting on a new boot than to remove the dents before painting. Because, they can't remove the dents minutely and re-create the creases to their original condition. Hence, they suggest to change the entire unit under insurance.

Dharmesh, some lessons I learnt from a different ASS but may be applicable to yours. Normally in most cases, the SA and the body shop people are different and mostly have no understanding (& control) over what the other are doing. The SA people are very good in changing oil, brake fluids, brake shoes and normal servicing. Plug and play come easily to them. No repair work... very good at replacing. You ask them something out of line and they are stumped.
A few months ago I had a rust issue with one of my car door. Asked the SA during servicing if he could remove the rust and do a touch up. He said he would see what he can do.
Since it was very minor, I left thinking nothing more of it. When I went to get the car, you would not believe what had been done. The rust had been stripped all-right, but a dab of red primer was put there without any finishing. What was earlier hardly noticeable was now like a sore thumb sticking out.
Called the SA and it turned out its the best he could do. He then started saying something like " Sir, if you have rust you cannot stop it, it will return whatever you do, better change the door"

Now your situation seems very familiar ... even without opening the panel the SA advised you to replace the whole tailgate.
Now you have three options:
1) If your Insurance covers repairs within non-claim criteria (like TATA AIG), you can have the tailgate repaired either by ASS or some workshop approved by the insurer and you no-claim bonus will not be affected. The insurance company would pay most of the claim.
2) Have repaired from outside.. would be much cheaper but color and quality of work is an issue
3) Have the ASS replace it as they have suggested and Insurance pays. You lose no-claim bonus, so calculate how much this loss is before you decide.

I would advise first talk with the body shop people at ASS, they are probably under a separate SA.

Hi Chayan, you are true in saying that whatever is the case, SA tends to bend customer towards replacing stuffs instead of repairing. The work have already been commenced and will get delivery today. And yes As SA said, will loose my no-claim bonus. Now let's see today, what work they have done. [roll]

Re: My Beautiful Beast Punto MJD 1.3 - 10,500 Kms Update

Dharmesh,

Body shop will carry out dents using hammer and heavy iron plate, use base coat, paint job and then rubbing on entire boot door.
Work will be good. As Chayan have already stated, many insurance companies allow repair work without loosing NCB.

NCB of 20 % would be 3000 (keeping next premium at 15000). How much do you have to pay for repair work
CBA:
File charges: 1000+ NCB: 3000= 4000
Repair cost: ???
Replacement cost of door:

If repair cost is as same as 4000. then go for claim and replace the door (but that too will be painted at the body shop).

Re: My Beautiful Beast Punto MJD 1.3 - 10,500 Kms Update

SA claimed that the entire job will be worth Rs. 20k as mentioned in posts earlier. That's the reason I went for insurance claim instead of paying it from pocket. [:D]

20 k for boot replacement minus glass sound too much. Post the cost break up for example: labour, part cost, consumables.

I presume you have Zero dep, hence you will not be paying any consumables per say.
