the slope issues has nothing to do with sedan or new car/Old car.
just ensure your handbrake is. properly applied and vehicle is parked in gear. some Stone/brick can be used to stop tyres as well.
Just one question,if only handbrake or only gear is applied when the car is in aslope,is there any danger?Because the handbrakes were applied but the gear was in neutral position when this incident happened.

Dear Shrijit,

Never slot it in Neutral.
Make sure the gear is either in 1st or reverse.

If you have parked the car on a slope with the car facing uphill, slot it in 1st with handbrake engaged. If the car is facing downhill, slot it in reverse with the handbrake.
I hope you get the idea.
On a normal plane, engage it in 1st with handbrake.

This helps in locking the wheels. Use 1st or Reverse to lock the wheels opposite to the direction to which it is likely to roll by itself.

In Neutral and only handbrake, the pressure is entirely on the brakes to hold your car on a slope. But engaging the gears will lock the wheels and this assists the handbrake making it very safe for the car to be parked on the slope. Using a rock or a brick at the tires makes it even more safer.

If only gear is engaged without handbrake, the pressure falls on the drivetrain, which will slowly cause wear out of the parts. Similarly, if handbrake alone is used, those parts will wear out sooner.

Best is both always.

Thanks a ton sir for the explanation. It helped me a lot.
Right now,the car is covered for the time being so that it does not rust like the previous one.Might wash and post few pictures tomorrow.
P.S.-I polished the Jazz about a month ago but it has lost its shine. After how many days polish is recommended? Can experts help with this?

Your welcome buddy.

I was told it is best to polish (Turtle Wax) once in 6 months or a year. Too much can spoil the paint.
It has been just a month right, so better don't polish it now. Give it a good wash, all it needs.

Hello Shrijit, Astralbliss explained the things related to braking in detail. I would like to add another small point, because I have seen many people doing it the wrong way. The push button on the handbrake lever should be used on release only, it should not be pressed while engaging the parking brake by pulling up the lever. Otherwise it will fail to latch properly and wheels may roll.

A rare sight-Type 1 High roof Omni
Today, while I was returning home,I saw something which I saw for the first time-Type 1 High Roof Omni!(I have seen the type2 one too)
Exterior-Same as the Low roof Omni (grill, bumper, healamps, taillamps etc)except the high roof
Interior-same except that it did not have a roof lining.
The car was golden in color and was pretty well maintained than my car too.It looked to be a model between 1985-1990.It even had the original rims and also the chrome plated hubcaps. It was a car of some official. And,hats off to the owner who maintained it well throughout the years.[clap]

I too own a 1986 Red Maruti van, It will complete 30 years this Feb and has done 2.5 Lakhs Kms so far and is still in excellent driving condition but needs a little paint job. Hope to get it done soon.

Eagerly waiting for your updates.
All the best for your exams.

Dear Srijit,

Awesome review bro!! For a guy who's still in high school, this is one hell of an ownership report! Superb job presenting it so well. [clap] This thread shows your immense love on cars. At this age you are writing this and I can't imagine how beautifully you will be writing when you grow up. This is a real real nostalgiac car. Our family also owns another nostalgiac car:HM Ambassador. Keep the car well and please do keep us updated.

With regards,
Harikrishnan
