Resizer.ashx?n=http%3a%2f%2fcdni.autocarindia.com%2fExtraImages%2f20190409055517_MG_SHOWROOM_ACI.jpg

MG Motor India has announced that it will launch the Hector SUV in June 2019, with the carmaker working on appointing dealer partners extensively. We can now confirm that the automaker will have 50 dealers in India by this June, and these dealers will have up to 120 touchpoints. MG has worked out a ‘one city – one dealer’ policy for most cities and towns across the country with a few exceptions (like Mumbai), and the dealers will all have one primary showroom and a service centre.

mg-india-dealer-showroom-photos-7.jpg

After a long wait, the MG Hector officially made its debut yesterday. The SUV comes with multiple segment-first features and MG India hopes that these will help the consumers to flock its sales outlets once the bookings start! But how will their dealerships be like? Well, they will be made to deliver premium customer experience. The center of the showroom will display Hector SUV. Around that area, are different sections. One is where you can take a look at customization options, other is customer lounge area where you can get to know about brand MG in detail over a cup of hot coffee from the in-house cafe.

MG Motor India has laid plans to expand rapidly in the country. The company has already confirmed the launch of its eZS electric SUV later this year, after it launches the Hector SUV. We can confirm that, before Diwali 2020, MG is expected to bring another SUV – the Maxus D90 – from its parent company SAIC’s portfolio to our market.
Like its expected rivals in India – the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour – the D90 is built on a light truck platform and sports a chunky SUV design, a massive front cowl, adaptive LED headlamps, large dual-tone alloy wheels (ranging from 17-inchers to 21-inchers), and a large and long cabin.
It’s also quite a bit larger than the Hector, which is by no means a small SUV. With its 5,005mm length, 1,932mm width, 1,875mm height and 2,950mm wheelbase, the Maxus D90 is bigger on every front than even the Mahindra Alturas G4. This, in part, explains the spacious cabin area.
Speaking of its interiors, the D90 SUV, which may have a different name for India under the MG brand, will have quite a feature-rich cabin. The China-spec Maxus D90 gets features like a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster, cooled/heated seats, three-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera and more. In terms of safety kit, the India-spec model should get six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP and Isofix child seat mounts. Whether more advanced safety features such as autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assist and the automatic parking function, which are available on international models, will come to India is yet unconfirmed.
While the Chinese market has the D90 with a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that makes 224hp and 360Nm of peak torque (and is paired to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox), a source at the company tells us that a diesel variant is also being worked on, which will give it real appeal in India. Like its rivals in the Indian market, it is expected to come with a four-wheel-drive option and a low-range transfer case. Its 210mm of ground clearance, along with seven drive modes (Automatic, Economy, Motion, Snow, Sandy, Mud and Rock), should also add to the D90’s off-road ability.
If the pricing trend in Australia (where it is called the LDV 90) is anything to go by, the India-spec Maxus D90 in top-spec form is likely to be priced in the Rs 30-35 lakh bracket. At this price point, it is sure to shake up the big SUV market.

MG-badged Maxus D90 (Ford Endeavour rival) coming to India in 2020 - Report

maxus-d90-front-three-quarters-32ad.jpg

The MG line-up in India will include models picked from various sister brands. One of these will be the Maxus D90, which is planned to be launched by Diwali 2020.
For those new to Maxus, it’s one of the many brands owned by MG’s parent company SAIC. It’s the commercial vehicle marque of the Chinese conglomerate. The D90 is the first-ever Maxus SUV. It’s built on the ladder-frame chassis of T60 pickup truck, and as the Thai would say, it’s a PPV (Pick-up Passenger Vehicle).

maxus-d90-interior-620b.jpg

The Maxus D90 will compete with the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Mahindra Alturas G4 and Isuzu MU-X in India. It measures 5,005 mm in length, 1,932 mm in width and 1,875 mm in length. Its wheelbase is 2,950 mm. It’s bigger than all of the rivaling frame SUVs in every dimension except the width (Mahindra Alturas G4 - 1,960 mm).

MG Motor plan to launch small electric car in India under Rs 10 lakh

baojun-electric-car-india-launch.jpg

In the next 18-24 months, MG Motor India will be launching 5 new products including the eZS EV. Speaking about electric vehicles, the MD stated that, in order to make meaningful penetration, an EV should cost less than INR 10 lakhs. Without elaborating, he added that the company’s second EV may fall in this price bracket.
baojun-electric-car-india-launch-2.jpg

The company’s 10 year road map for India involves three phases. The initial one is all about establishing the brand, roping in right kind of dealers, entering right kind of markets and bringing in right kind of products. The second phase (after 2021-22) will involve preparing for mass market invasion by increasing its production capacity, introducing new products, expanding the network and increasing localization. This is the phase where we can expect the aforementioned sub-10 lakh electric vehicle. We reckon it could be the small electric car – Baojun E100 EV, which has already been spied in India. Hector too is a re-worked Baojun product. So it is possible that the small electric car from MG could be based on the Baojun E100 EV.

In Australia LDV D90 is available from about Rs 20 lakh (equivalent) onwards.
If priced similarly in India (after may be removing features such as lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control etc) this could very well shake up the Fotruner/ Endeavour segment.
