As you see it had some more juice left.what is done is done but in future take care not to be fooled by cunning technicians.
I would not like to believe that the technician fooled me. I could have not let him replace the pads, but looking at scarcity of time in future and keeping myself safe by avoiding any 11th hour actions, I took the plunge.

Its not always best practice to stick with newest break pads, they take bedding time to be efficient enough and newer ones eats disc quickly.
use the brakes wisely optimizing engine braking and prolong the life of brakes as well as yourself.
Theory says a lot many things. In practicality I do not find any difference the way car behaved with old brake pads and the new ones.

don't do that. let it be. again the mechanic will remind you of all the things he first said to persuade you to change.
for every problem in the car there's a symptom , a noise [:D] and for pads it's squeeking noise every time you brake just remember this.
and also read this article.
Instructions for bedding in your brakes
I have never got any noise, neither would I like to or wait to hear one.
I think that noise will come when the brake pads are all worn out and touch the discs, but then it would be too late. Why/how would the noise appear before complete wearing out of pads?

Breaking in of new brakes!! Machines are so complicated!

Rightnow, if yoy have some spare time can you take those brakepads to a different independant workshop and inquire the general condition of how long it would have run?
That's a nice idea. I am keeping the pads in boot straight away.

@ Jihu,
If somebody is doing it wrong way with driving you have responsibility to inform the dire situation. high speed and braking hard has no excuse to be ignored. It is not about the wear but also tire locks, high heat generated brake failure and all sort of potential fatalities-I assume your Polo is not modified race car.
Day before yesterday a guy rear ended our company car out of similar situations. If you cannot tell him directly arrange it for a discussion with somebody whom can.
hmm. My sister does complain about his driving. At times, he becomes a bit more sane while driving. But still, he uses 100% brakes to stop the vehicle instead of engine braking. That's due to his driving style & I guess he drove like that since the day he got the license. So he must be pretty used to it!
Other than my sister, no one really complains about his driving even if someone wants to. And he drives rarely. An average of about 1-3 times in a week. That is the only thing which relieves me. If he drives the car daily, then the brake pads would have worn out at 10 or 15k. [confused]

well., r

just curious
thank you.
Seems like a pretty good idea to stop the conversation regarding how much more juice was left in the brake pad.

If you want a number then it is 40,000 kms. But again if you are going to follow on it and your pads have worn out before that magical number either due to city driving or by manufacturer's cunning manufacturing ways, you will risk your life and cause damage to vehicle.

So it is wise to thoroughly inspect your brake pads while during service by asking the Service centre guys to show you the wear and tear before you commit for a replacement.

Bottom line: Be careful and don't rely on any arbitrary numbers regarding brake pads life.

Safe driving [:)]
Just wanted know the ideal figure! Considering ideal figure of 40k for brake pad replacement 31.5 k is not that bad. My friend was not at all happy about early wear and tear of brakepads.
Also one more point, my car doesnt have alloy wheels, is it still possible to inspect brake pads at home??

.
the pads will still have usability even if the noise starts coming. so don't worry.
main problem will be avoiding the noise and one day a sudden break and everything will be damaged.

just to be on safer side. every 15k get the pads checked from a local mechanic. give him 20 rupees and he will remove the tyre and check it thoroughly [:)]

Those brake pads don't look worn out to me. But i am sure we all tend to look at the safety aspects first and its better to drive with a peace of mind by changing to the new ones. But from next time onwards do get it checked thoroughly even from outside mechanics if at all there is a need of a replacement.

Still waiting for the new pics of your Polo. I am sure your red beauty deserves a photoshoot atleast every once in a while if not every day/week [;)].

Awww. That's bad news. Get them removed soon and make her a scar free beauty again. Planning to get them done from VW guys or the local paint shops there? My cousin had literally banged his 1 year old Punto from each and every side. His rear bumper was literally just hanging with one odd screw and scratches on each and every corner of the car. I literally had to push him to get them all fixed and found a really good local painting and dent repair shop here. Got his rear bumper welded, new rear reverse light fitted in the bumper, dents removed from both front fenders and the whole front bumper re- painted. To my amazement, the work done is super awesome. I myself can't make out where all it has been painted. Even the company guys won't be able to pull out such a good job. His car looks sparkling new again. And the final bill was less than half what the Fiat people had quoted earlier.[:)]

Hey it isn't as bad as your brother's Punto.
An old scratch on rear bumper, hardly visible.
The recent one was bad when a moron tried to overtake and gifted me scratches on front left side bumper area. Paint has gone. Rest few almost invisible scratches. Planning to get repair from workshop only, they do a good job honestly speaking.

Hehe i am sure its not that bad. It can't be. Yes even i know the workshop people do the best job,but i was pleasantly surprised this time to see the work done by local auto shops too. But my cousin couldn't claim from insurance also as they would just claim for one dent or repair, not for all four corners at once which made us look out for local repair shops as the estimated bill given by company guys was like sky high.

My polo completes 30k within 15 months!! Way too much for a petrol car, but who cares I am damn happy.

Attaching the bill:

DSCN4692[1].jpg

The ticked ones are particulars over and above regular service.
As I had AMC, I did not have to pay for the service bill, and frankly I didn't bother much about it.

The regular service bill comes around Rs. 7,000!

While I was on my way to home, I observed that my AC wasn't working and eventually I got engine overheating signal (that key shaped signal) on the MID. The workshop people diagnosed fault and said that the radiator fan is not working. They had washed the engine bay with water which must have fused off the fan plugs (I am guessing)!! The SA had only 'sorry' to say and gave me fan replacement.

Few things that I reported to SA:

Glovebox rattling noise: Gone completely. The SA opened the whole assembly to get it mute!
Driver side door feeble noise: Gone
Engine mounting: Part not available
Repair: Brake Lock carrier which got broken due to scraping at a parking's elevated section.

So this is it. Terrific journey with my polo and a lot more is yet to come.

Mods: Please change this thread's ttle to " My Volkswagen Polo 1.2 Petrol Highline at 30k Kms"

Congrats Rightnow on completing 30k with your Polo. Service bill seems to be fine. But good to know that you have AMC and you didn't have to pay a penny. How i wish, VW provides us also, the TDI owners the AMC package.

Sad to know that your car started over heating. Washing the engine bay with high pressure water must have done the damage. Some plugs must have fused. So how is the car doing now after the fan replacement?

Anyways, its too late at night now, just wishing you many many more happy miles with your Polo and enjoy every moment spent with her. [:D]Do post some recent pics. Drive safe![drive]

How much do you pay for amc? And just to be on safe side you should stay present when they change or add things (oil, filter etc) in your car. These sc guys can go all the way in fooling people.

My AMC was free.
Staying near to car is highly infeasible man. Got other important things to do.
I have to trust them, my only option.
