As you see it had some more juice left.what is done is done but in future take care not to be fooled by cunning technicians.
Its not always best practice to stick with newest break pads,they take bedding time to be efficient enough and newer ones eats disc quickly.
use the brakes wisely optimizing engine braking and prolong the life of brakes as well as yourself.

don't do that. let it be. again the mechanic will remind you of all the things he first said to persuade you to change.

I think that noise will come when the brake pads are all worn out and touch the discs, but then it would be too late. Why/how would the noise appear before complete wearing out of pads?
Breaking in of new brakes!! Machines are so complicated!
Rightnow, if yoy have some spare time can you take those brakepads to a different independant workshop and inquire the general condition of how long it would have run?
