Thanks Rightnow for the tips. Till now I am switching to 4/5 gear as soon as speed crosses 40 KMPH and I am getting good FE around 14 KMPH/L as per the MID display. Should I avoid this?

What is the best speed for different gears specially when the car is new(before 6 months or so) and what would be when it become 8-10 months old?

Also could you explain the service position of wipers?

The engine needs to be opened up at all revvs hence its suggested to drive at different RPMs and not limiting to lower RPMs. 40kmph for 4/5 gear too high. You would already know by now that the third gear brilliantly covers a wide range of speed from as low as 20kmph to as high as 70 kmph. So, try 4th above 60 kmph most of times, and fifth gear when cruising above 70-80 kmph.

You are getting good efficiency already, but driving at suitable RPMs is basically meant for engine life and proper tuning. Even when you drive at higher RPMs, there won't be any change in FE.

The wipers are placed underneath the bonnet such that if your try to lift them from sleeping position, they will tend to hit the bonnet lining and damage the paint. To avoid it- following is the procedure:

- Switch the ignition on
- Push up the wiper lever at level 1 of wiper speed
- When the wipers reach center of dashboard, switch off the ignition and pull down the wiper lever to default position
- Now lift the wipers from windshield manually and go ahead with washing
- When done with washing, put the wiper blades back on windshield
- Switch the ignition on and wipers will move back to the sleeping position

Actually the process is a little different

Switch on the ignition to the position just before the crank and then turn it off. Tap the Wiper stalk once downwards , Like you would do if there was a very slight drizzle and just wanted to wiper to run once.

The wiper will stop at the centre of the windshield.

After washing and placing the wiper back on the windshield repeat the process to get it to its stationery lock position.

Hey thanks for the process. Although both the process perform the same thing and act the same way. No harm in either of the two.

Yes this is the way it is supposed to be done. I've explained it like 5 times to my the car cleaning guy. Still he doesn't get it and mostly leaves the right side wiper untouched. Although its better than what he used to do earlier, put all his force to make the wiper stand. Glad he didn't break it.

Awww. I have tried the 'force' method but I couldn't lift in fear of breaking it. Your cleaning guy has got skills man.

my cleaning guy didn't know how to pull those wipers. Unfortunately, I wasn't there at the time when he was pulling the wiper. As a result, some paint was gone!
But, he felt really sorry for it.

Yep this is the method, also mentioned in manual of the car. They called it service position of wiper.

I usually keep my Polo's wiper in service position in night so that the cleaning guy don't have to use his brain much while cleaning in the morning.

hehe. I'm sure he has. Even i was surprised for the first few times when i saw both the wipers standing in the morning after the wash. But everytime i was in the fear he must have broken something. But luckily nothing happened. Now he never touches the driver side wiper as he's got lots of GYAAN[:D] from me already.

Yes that can happen. But good that he didn't break the wiper itself.

That is really smart to do. I think i should also follow the same from now on.

Been a while since I posted something here, so just wanted to give a quick update:-
1. Completed 1000Km on the Polo, in 2 months. I have been using it primarily as a city car, and hence my odo shows these numbers
2. I now have gotten accustomed to the gear shifts of the POLO. The most fun gears are 3 and above. You really enjoy the car when you are pushing it on empty stretches at speeds of 60 KM/Hr and above. In city traffic conditions, you need to keep shifting between gears 1 and 2 a lot.
3. The car is very, very stable. I have thrown it around corners, while being in the 4th gear and at speeds of 50-60Km/hr and it glides marvelously. The brakes on the car deserve a special mention - absolutely fantastic. I guess it's partly due to the ABS as well, but I drive with a lot of assurance as I know that I can stop at any point of time without much fuss.
4. The FE is close to 13.5-14.5 with no AC, as the Delhi winters have kicked in since I purchased this beauty.
5. The music system- RCD310 is quite good and offers good sound quality. I am not an audiophile, so my level of acceptance shouldn't be taken by those who know how to differentiate between treble and bass [:)] I had ordered the MDI to iPod cable from the links given by sanke1, and it works like a charm.
6. The looks of the car draw a deep breath of "oohs" and "aahs" from my friends. In fact the new MY2013 model has quite a few subtle differences from the previous model. Case in point, a higher ground clearance, gives the car a different feel altogether.
7. The interiors are way better and sophisticated then let's say, a SWIFT, and very much in class with the i20.

The only dampener so far has been a dent on the left wheel arch by an uncle ji on his bike. Apparently it would require a complete repainting and would leave my pockets lighter by 4200INR (as per the estimate given by the VW service center)[frustration] Not sure if I would want to shell that much out at this point of time since it's just been over 2 months. Might get it done when I reach the 6 month mark and give the car for routine service.

Even I have the same 2013 Highline model.
Completed 350 km in 15 days. The only thing I don't like are the rear lights. They look boring. Well I know I won't be seeing them while driving but I am absolutely in love with those European Polo tail lights. Them shipped a week ago from Germany. Still waiting to arrive. Hope our customs clear them soon.

I also got the OEM VW Polo Seat Covers. They are black and beige and are perfect match for interiors. Anyone tried to get their hands on GTI grill?

As a new driver, I am still learning to change gear in correct RPMs. But for those experts out there, I have a query:-

Does pressing clutch to change gear while accelerator is slightly pressed damage anything?

- Yeah the third gear covers wide range of speeds and the way it accelerates in thr third gear is just too addictive. I hope you take her highway often to enjoy it even more.
- The ABS action will be when you feel judder on the brake pads. have you experienced it yet while a panic braking situation?
- You are getting much better mileage what I used to get initially. Good.
- The new interiors with new stereo, steering controls and leather wraps look really classy than before.

About the dent, you should get the repair done through claim soon otherwise it won't be covered under insurance.
Enjoy...

GTI grill, I have seen in a grey polo when I was in Goa, it looks good. You have white polo so it would look good too on white one, I guess.

Pressing the gear while accelerating would stress the engine. I guess you would be hearing high engine noise and clutter if try to do so. Once you get used to changing gears, it won't be a habit anymore.

Please post some pictures of the seat covers you got installed in your Polo. About the GTI grill. I have seen a Red Polo in Chandigarh with this GTI grill. It also had side skirtings and 16 inches black alloy wheels with low profile tyres. Looked absolutely stunning. Would take a pic for sure the next time i spot it on road.
