For heating problem, check whether the fan runs..next is the sensors finally the Head Gasket.

Starting problem, get the starter motor serviced, get the brushes changed.

Engine Braking, may be the issue with clutch, check the clutch adjustments.

There is a clutch cable on the gearbox, you need to get it adjusted(tightened or loosened)

OVERHEATING PROBLEM: Check the color of your oil, it can be any color but white.
If its milky white your engine is going to die soon. This happens only when water and oil have been mixed.
Check the level of coolant in your radiator and overflow tank.
If the levels are dropping after every journey get the cooling system checked immediately.

ENGINE BRAKING: The clutch needs to be adjusted also adjust the engine idle. You are over revving the car before changing to the next gear. That is why it is reducing the speed to match the clutch before changing.
When you are upshifting and have over revved go directly into third from first. When downshifting slow down and then change gears. You can go directly from 4th to second depending on your speed and engine idle.

STARTING PROBLEM: Does this happen when you are driving though traffic or in the morning?Get your engine idle checked, timing checked and get the spark plugs checked and replaced if needed.

Thanks for the info.
The Engine breaking problem happens in both the 1st and second year actually. Definitely not over revving it. Happens even at speeds as low as 5-10kmph.

The Starting problem is persistent. Happens in the morning sometimes, or after the car overheats in traffic . Theres no response from the ignition except that the dash board lights go a bit dim/fluctuate every time I try and start it.

It seems like your battery is weak?

Check the battery output and also the engine idle checked, timing checked and get the spark plugs checked and replaced if needed.

Re: Maruti 800: Technical Issues and Solutions

A nearby mechanic was saying that old Maruti 800 engines used carburetor and leaded fuel due to which the piston heads were made of relatively softer alloys. Usage of unleaded petrol can cause these piston heads to wear off a bit causing more fuel to be used up during combustion which in turn would decrease fuel efficiency by a slight margin.

Is it true ???

MPFI engines that is, F8D were introduced in 2001/2 era. Until then all M800s were carb'ed. The engine block was and still made of cast iron. To the best of my knowledge, they haven't changed the block or pistons.

Re: Maruti 800: Technical Issues and Solutions

Went to mechanic
He checked and said smelss is not fo petrol but pipe of AC is leaking. Went to 1 ac workshop who said it will require to chnage 2 pipes+ gas refill= 2k charges.
Then i went to another shop who said there could be slight leakage as car was heating. He checked coolant and there was only water.
He cleaned pipe and asked me to change coolant+ radiator cleaning. Then went to another shop and paid 300 rs for coolant and Rs 200 for radiator cleaning.
Now lets see and wait for a few days to check if smell comes
