As a rule of thumb, the needle should never go above the middle mark.It should be a hair to the left.If it is going over, you need to service the cooling system.

Is your water pump working properly?

The thermostat is not hard to find for the 800.Try spare part dealers and MGP dealer.

When the thermostat is removed generally the temp stays below the needle and rarely goes above because the coolant flow is unrestricted.

Check your radiator fan wiring.Does the radiator turn on ever?If not you need to check the radiator fan circuit.

my car is maruti 800 carb type 2 . the MASS guys removed thermostat valve and didnt replace as they dont have spares and untill then it wont used to cross even 70% mark. here's the problem when ever im crusing at low speeds temp needle goes to 'H' mark other wise it wont cross 70% mark and i can rarely hear the fan running .
when fan is short to run continously the temp needle stays below half mark whether im driving at low speeds or high speeds . the water pump is working good as when i remove the radiator cap the coolant flows out of radiator.ive also got radiator cleaned 2000kms before . im totally confused as the fan runs at different temperatures and some times wont run at all .

The temp needle should always be below the 50% anything above means there is something wrong with the entire system. Are you using the correct ratio of coolant to water.

If driving at low speeds causes the temp to shoot up it means you are stressing the engine too much and the radiator is not getting sufficient cool air. Also means the coolant is not being circulated properly.Check your water pump belt tightness if it is frayed get it changed and also check the level of coolant in the reservoir tank.Make sure it does not drop.

Check if there is oil in your radiator, if so its not a good sign. The head gasket needs to be changed is that's the problem.

The thermostat is not hard to find at all. Please check various car part dealers in your area.I myself have just installed a thermostat on my car a few months ago.It is an easy job, if you can get someone to help you it is even more easier.

sir no traces of oil found in coolant . every time it overheats i have to pullover and wait till temp drops and top up coolant from reservoir as coolant comes and gets stored here but coolant in reservoir is not as hot as it is in radiator . the mixture is correct 50-50 mix.
can it be any air gaps present because the thermostat valve is removed
the old ones (L-bows) were in bad choked condition but no prob and started only after news ones are installed . i think water pump is good because it can gusts the coolant out of radiator cap hole at idle speed.
currently ive short the fan terminals to run continously now it wont overheat at all .

If you suspect air gaps, park the car on a level surface.Take off the radiator cap and start the engine, let the coolant circulate and let some of it come out even. This is the only way to remove the air that I know of. The removal of the thermostat increases coolant flow. The car should remain cold longer. If it is going above the half way mark then there is a problem.

If the level of coolant is dropping then your coolant is going into the engine.Does white smoke come from your tail pipe even when you drive for 10-15 mins?If so you need to change your head gasket.Check your oil, it may smell like coolant if this is happening.

sir i did just as you said , now the fan runs anywhere at 45% or 50% mark [clap] and rarely touches 70% mark in heavy traffic and now its not going towards 'H' mark
there is no appreciable drop in coolant level but it gets collected in reservoir.
no sir no white smoke except after water washing the car. did check the oil level but unable to trace coolant smell. now i will change radiator and temp senor at next service may be they are the culprits. now ive got some peace of mind [sleep]

Hi all, had a similar overheating problem in my 96 M800 too. and had discussed it in this forum earlier, and after adapting the suggestion provided here. I did the following measures.
1, changed the fan switch,
2, Removed thermostat,
3 changed some temprature guagging devise(I have no idea what it is called)

After these measures the problem has significantly reduced, I had noticed earlier that fan use to run for a very short period but that has been increased. also i have noticed that overheating use to happen when ever i open the radiator cap. i,e in the instanced when i had opened the cap for filling the coolant, during next ride there would be over heating. hence i now only fill the coolant through reservoir tank. But there is still some movement towards the overheating level, but majority time it stays inside the acceptable level. as mine is a non mpfi some movement in temp guagge is expected.

please note i have not change the head gasket as there was no leaking found in the oil when checked.

Hello everyone,

I have same problem. recently I see on my gauge that there is over heating. Today i checked that plastic tank of engine coolant is full but there is no water in radiator! Also one of mechanic was saying that Head Gasket is gone and need to be replaced. What could be reasons of head gasket damage?

We are happy that your problem was solved easily.

That is why each topic should have a separate thread so anyone who googles a specific problem will be taken to a specific thread than have to waste time browsing through endless topics.

@yogesh_m_divekar:One of our members Varun560061 has removed the springs from the radiator and has reported that the circulation of coolant has increased and the overheating has stopped. But he had flushed and cleaned the radiator and added new coolant as well.Remember to mix new coolant with onlydistilled water.

Also do check that your thermostat valve is working correctly, if not change it.If the rubber packing on the radiator cap has become hard change the radiator cap too.
