Kia Motors Plant Set to Transform Backward Anantapur District of Andhra Pradesh

Kia-Plant.jpg

South Korean automobile giant Kia Motors' plant is set to transform Anantapur, one of the country's most backward districts. The sprawling plant, which has come up over 536 acres of land in Erramanchi village in a span of just 14 months, is changing the landscape of Anantapur, one of the four districts in the backward Rayalaseema region. In a region with one of the lowest rainfall in the country and once notorious for brutal killings by rival groups fighting for supremacy, the plant, which began trial production on January 30, has come as a breath of fresh air.

Kia SP2i SUV Spotted On Test In India With LED Sequential Turn Signals

kia-sp2i-spied-1068x601.jpg

The SP2i takes plenty of design inspiration from the SP concept but it resembles close to the more matured SP Signature concept displayed at the Seoul Motor Show less than a month ago. In the spy pictures, it is easy to see the prominent front fascia occupied by the signature Tiger Nose grille while below the sleek pair of headlamps on either side, the LED sequential turn blinkers can also be witnessed. It will make for an attractive addition to the premium SUV as it works in a sequence while turning direction.

Kia QYI compact SUV India launch confirmed for H2 2020

hx?n=http%3a%2f%2fcdni.autocarindia.com%2fExtraImages%2f20200103032207_Kia-XCeed-QYI+compact-SUV.jpg

Riding high on the success of the Seltos, Kia Motors India is now readying its second model for India – the Carnival MPV. But that’s not the only model Kia has lined up for 2020 – the Korean carmaker has now confirmed it will launch its second SUV later this year.

Along with the announcement of a hike in prices for the Seltos, it has now been confirmed the Kia QYI compact SUV will be launched in India in the second-half of 2020. After introducing the Carnival MPV at the 2020 Auto Expo, Kia is likely to launch its compact SUV (codenamed QYI) closer to August 2020, as the company aims to “further strengthen its Utility Vehicle brand image in India”, according to the statement.

Details on the Kia QYI compact SUV are scarce at this point, but what we do know is that it will share its underpinnings with its cousin, the Hyundai Venue. That said, while it will borrow its mechanicals from Hyundai’s compact SUV, the Kia QYI will have a completely different (and more rounded) design. As spy pictures have previously revealed, the Kia QYI will get Kia’s signature ‘Tiger Nose’ grille, and is likely to avoid going down the split-headlight route. It will also have a completely new interior and is expected to pack in lots of features, including a large touchscreen infotainment system and Kia’s UVO connected-car tech.

Kia In Talks To Move $1.1 Billion Plant To Tamil Nadu From Andhra: Report

South Korea's Kia Motors is discussing with Tamil Nadu the possibility of moving a $1.1 billion plant out of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh only months after it fully opened, due to policy changes last year, sources close to the talks told Reuters.Kia inaugurated the Andhra plant, its first in the world's fifth-largest car market, in December after two years of construction

It has an annual capacity of some 300,000 units and created 12,000 direct and indirect jobs. However, Kia is now in talks with the nearby state of Tamil Nadu, home to many major autoparts suppliers, about potentially relocating the plant, a senior state government official and a second source familiar with the discussions said

Kia Motors not to enter hatchback segment in India

Kia Motors, which entered the Indian market last year has become one of the best-sellers in just a few months of its launch. Kia launched its second product at the 2020 Auto Expo in Delhi in the form of a luxury MPV – the Carnival. While there are many reports that suggest that Kia may enter the highly competitive hatchback and the affordable sedan segment in India, Financial Express reports that they are currently not planning to launch any vehicle in those segments yet.

As per an interview with Lorenz Glab, vice-president, product management sub-division, Hyundai Motor Group, the parent company of Kia Motors, Kia is only planning to launch products in the premium segments and become a niche brand in India. They will not launch products to take on the segment leaders in the coming future.

So we can safely assume that there will not be any hatchback or a sub-4m compact sedan from the brand in the Indian market. Kia will instead focus on the growing segment – the SUV and will launch MPVs in the market.

Kia India introduces K-Charge: An Initiative for Widespread EV charging access

Kia-K-Charge-1024x576.png

Kia India has unveiled K-Charge, an initiative integrated into the ‘MyKia’ app. This initiative provides access to over 1000 EV charging stations nationwide, extending beyond Kia users to all EV enthusiasts across India.

Kia India has taken a significant step by making its charging network accessible to non-Kia customers. This move is aimed at addressing the common concern among electric vehicle users known as Range Anxiety. Kia aims to consolidate various functions into a user-friendly smartphone App to enhance customer services.

To make K-Charge a reality, Kia India has collaborated with five charging point operators (CPOs): Statiq, ChargeZone, Relux Electric, Lion Charge, and E-Fill. Among these, Kia has worked on a special partnership with Relux Electric, which will offers Kia customers three months of free charging through their stations.

Onn the app front, Kia India has tied up with NumoCity Technologies, a player in Content Management System (CMS) services, to integrate these CPOs seamlessly into the ‘MyKia’ app, providing EV users access to services through their smartphones.

The ‘MyKia’ app has been designed to provide electric vehicle (EV) users with a range of convenient features. By integrating technology, the app allows users to locate charging stations easily using an interactive map provided by Map My India. The app’s K-Charge feature also enables users to check slot availability, select preferences, and make payments using the app’s wallet service. These functionalities eliminate the need for multiple external applications.

Kia has set a goal of achieving an annual sales target of one million electric vehicles (EVs) by 2026, with plans to expand to 1.6 million units annually by 2030. This aligns with the launch of various long-range Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs). In India, Kia has outlined its EV strategy, which includes launching global EV models alongside a locally manufactured EV in the RV body style by 2030.

Hardeep Singh Brar, National Head of Sales and Marketing – Kia India, said, “K-Charge is not just a convenience initiative for our customers but a step towards making sustainable mobility convenient and accessible for everyone.”

Good to see this happening and also coming from Kia which is at a small level in the Indian market. I was expecting Tata too have a similar program for the Indian market so many more users adopt the EV over ICE vehicles.

Sorry to ask a noob question, but how would Kia address the plug options for cars from different manufacturers? Are the charging ports the same across ALL the EV cars sold in India or is it proprietary?
