The entry of KIA into the Indian market is very interesting . Actually it feels like a well planned & strategical move by Hyundai & Kia together ,Kia got the potential to perform in the same way as Hyundai does today , I think this will work as an indirect & more stabilized counter to NEXA of MSIL.
Nexa is a kind of strategy to lure sophisticated customers who believes MSIL got poor brand value and its working to some extend as we are seeing 15K Balenos selling through 300 odd dealers. But NEXA lacks many things , one thing is that we all know its a Maruti selling through different outlet, even a common man could easily find its another maruti due to the strong brand recall, also moving the CIAZ to Nexa is a proof for that too, here comes the KIA into the scene where public could only find both Hyundai & KIA are koreans and nothing else, but essentially the cars from these brands are completely same except the body panels.
The problem with KIA is that their product line up . The KIA mostly caters to the segments above Sportage( aka Tucson) for the global market, though they have cars similar to grand i10( Picanto),i20( Rio hatch),Verna(Rio sedan) & Elantra(Cerato) which might be the least selling KIAs too, same is the case with Hyundai too outside of India, Hoping they would bring something like Hyundai for India like the Eon & the Creta for the masses and volume. KIAs are always more desirable than Hyundai's from exteriors & interiors.
Few observations:
* North Korea -U.S threats and developments will affect these Korean giants?
*Though Hyundai -Kia got a handful of Crossovers & Compact SUVs with them , they are lacking ladder frame SUVs in their line up for the time being, also showing some stagnated growth rate on global sales too. They are worried?
Anyhow wishing KIA a very good start in India
