The entry of KIA into the Indian market is very interesting . Actually it feels like a well planned & strategical move by Hyundai & Kia together ,Kia got the potential to perform in the same way as Hyundai does today , I think this will work as an indirect & more stabilized counter to NEXA of MSIL.

Nexa is a kind of strategy to lure sophisticated customers who believes MSIL got poor brand value and its working to some extend as we are seeing 15K Balenos selling through 300 odd dealers. But NEXA lacks many things , one thing is that we all know its a Maruti selling through different outlet, even a common man could easily find its another maruti due to the strong brand recall, also moving the CIAZ to Nexa is a proof for that too, here comes the KIA into the scene where public could only find both Hyundai & KIA are koreans and nothing else, but essentially the cars from these brands are completely same except the body panels.
The problem with KIA is that their product line up . The KIA mostly caters to the segments above Sportage( aka Tucson) for the global market, though they have cars similar to grand i10( Picanto),i20( Rio hatch),Verna(Rio sedan) & Elantra(Cerato) which might be the least selling KIAs too, same is the case with Hyundai too outside of India, Hoping they would bring something like Hyundai for India like the Eon & the Creta for the masses and volume. KIAs are always more desirable than Hyundai's from exteriors & interiors.

Few observations:
* North Korea -U.S threats and developments will affect these Korean giants?
*Though Hyundai -Kia got a handful of Crossovers & Compact SUVs with them , they are lacking ladder frame SUVs in their line up for the time being, also showing some stagnated growth rate on global sales too. They are worried?

Anyhow wishing KIA a very good start in India[thumbswink]

New Kia Rio To Take on Hyundai i20 & Maruti Baleno

Kia Motors had showcased the new Rio hatchback at the 2018 Auto Expo. It is built on the same platform as that of the Hyundai i20, which is on sale in India.

Set for launch in India sometime in 2020 when the South Korean automaker starts its sales operations in the country, the Kia Rio hatchback will boast of a tiger nose grille, swept back multi reflector halogen headlamps and new fog lamps positioned next to air vents on the bumper. The Kia hatchback also gets scooped out doors, 15” alloy wheels and a large rear windscreen.

Interiors will be seen with premium fitments and new technology apart from a host of safety features. It will get a 7” touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear parking camera, cruise control, 6 way adjustable driver seat and day and night IRVMs.

Safety features will include tyre pressure monitoring system, electronic stability control, automatic emergency braking and forward collision warning along with vehicle stability management. ABS and EBD will also be offered as standard.

Internationally, Kia Rio hatchback is powered by a 1.6 liter, inline, 4 cylinder petrol engine offering 130 PS peak power at 6,300 rpm / 161 Nm torque at 4,850 rpm mated to a 6 speed manual or 6 speed automatic.

But in India, expect the Kia Rio to be powered by the same engine and transmission options which are on offer with the Hyundai i20. These are 1.2 liter petrol and 1.4 liter diesel 4 cylinder engine options. Both options are on offer with manual transmission, automatic option is only on offer with petrol variant.

Kia being a more premium brand than Hyundai, expect the Kia Rio to be priced about Rs 50,000 costlier than the Hyundai i20 on sale. Once launched, the Kia Rio will rival Maruti Baleno, Honda Jazz and the Tata premium hatchback in India.

New Kia Rio sedan will launch in India – Rival to Maruti Ciaz, Honda City

Set to roll out from the new Kia manufacturing plant in Andhra Pradesh wherein the company has invested US$ 1.1 billion, Kia Rio sedan is pegged for launch sometime by 2019.

Kia Rio sedan was seen along with Kia hatchback at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show and at the 2018 Auto Expo held earlier this year. It is being developed on the Hyundai i20 platform and will rival the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz on its launch in India.

Designed at Kia studios in Europe, US and Korea, the Kia sedan is offered in three trims – LX, S and EX. In European markets, the Kia sedan will be powered by a 1.6 liter GDI engine which is claimed to be of the highest fuel efficiency. In India, however, the Kia Rio sedan will borrow the same engine set up as seen on the Verna sedan. This could be a 1.6 liter unit, 1.4 liter U2 CDRi or a 1.6 liter U2 CRDi mated to both manual and automatic transmission options.

Kia Rio sedan is currently on sale in Malaysian markets where it measures 4,370mm in length, 1720mm in width and 1,455mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,570mm. However, the model in India could get a change in dimensions. It will have ground clearance at 165mm and 15” multi spoke alloy wheels so as to offer better performance on Indian road conditions.

Kia Rio sedan could be priced between Rs 9-13 lakhs in India. Like its hatchback version, the Rio sedan will also get a host of driver and passenger comforts, new technology and a long list of safety features.

The cabin will be spacious with Bluetooth handsfree functionality, 6 speaker stereo system with satellite radio and a rear view camera. It will get a 7” floating touchscreen interface with voice recognition, smartphone integration and Android Auto with Apple CarPlay.

Kia Motors will reveal its first model for India – the production version of the SP Concept – next year; but there’s much more to come from the Korean carmaker. A made-in-India compact SUV will make its debut in 2020, and one of the other models in the range could be the Kia Ceed. Sun Wook Hwang, Senior General Manager, Marketing and PR, Kia Motors India confirmed the same.

Kia cars showcased to dealers in India at company plant site

Kia Motors is planning to debut their first product in India by April 2019 bringing it forward by a good four months as compared to earlier intended launch date of July / August. This is due to the fact that the construction of the new manufacturing facility in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh, which has seen investments to the tune of $1.1 billion (Rs 7,500 crores), is nearing completion. Kia Motors will also see added investment upto $2 billion by 2021.
